SBI PO Eligibility Criteria 2023

SBI PO 2023 eligibility criteria is prescribed by the State Bank of India (SBI). Candidates who wish to apply for the exam are required to fulfill SBI PO eligibility criteria or else they will not be allowed to participate in the recruitment process. According to the eligibility criteria, any graduate candidate who is between 21 and 30 years can apply for SBI PO 2023 exam. Candidates who will satisfy SBI PO eligibility 2023 will be considered for the various stages of the selection process-preliminary exam, mains exam, Group exercises (GE) & Personal Interview.

There are three stages of SBI PO eligibility criteria:

SBI PO Nationality

Candidates filling SBI PO 2023 application form should be:

  • Citizen of India
  • The subject of Nepal or Bhutan
  • Tibetan refugees who came to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanent settlement
  • Person of Indian Origin (PIO) who has migrated from Burma, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Vietnam or East African countries of Zaire, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Ethiopia, Malawi, with the intention of permanent settlement in India Candidates belonging to the category 2, 3, 4 must have a certificate of eligibility issued by the Govt. of India in their favor

SBI PO Age Limit As on April 1, 2023

Candidates must ensure the SBI PO age limit before applying for the exam. The age of candidates should be between 21 to 30 years. There is also a provision for age relaxation for certain categories of aspirants.

SBI PO Educational Qualification 

Candidates need to meet the following educational qualification for SBI PO exam:

  • The educational qualification is calculated as on the date of application
  • Candidates must be a graduate in any discipline from a Graduation in any discipline from a recognised university or any equivalent qualification recognised by the Central Government
  • Candidates who are in the final year/semester of graduation can apply provisionally, subject to the condition that if they are called for an interview then they must produce proof of having completed graduation on or before December 31, 2023
  • Candidates possessing the qualification of a chartered accountant may also apply
  • Candidates having Integrated Dual Degree (IDD) can also apply for the exam. They must ensure that the date of passing the IDD is on or before December 31, 2023

Note:

  • The date of passing the eligibility examination will be the date appearing on the marksheet or provisional certificate issued by the university/institute
  • Candidates must show the percentage obtained in graduation calculated to the nearest two decimals in the online SBI PO application form. Where CGPA/ OGPA is awarded, the same should be converted into percentage and indicated in the online application

How to Calculate the SBI PO Eligibility Percentage?

SBI PO percentage criteria obtained in graduation should be indicated in the following way:

  • The candidature will be cancelled if the mark sheet or provisional certificate issued by the University/Institute is not by the date mentioned by the bank. The result of any examination posted on the website of the University/Institute will be taken as the final date of passing that exam or semester.
  • The candidate should indicate the percentage obtained in Graduation calculated to the nearest two decimals in the online application where CGPA/ OGPA is awarded, the same should be converted into the percentage and indicated in the online application.
  • If called for the interview, an aspirant will have to show the original certificate issued under the concerned authority stating the norms of the university regarding the conversion of grade into percentage and the percentage of marks scored by the candidate
  • Calculation of Percentage: The percentage will be calculated by the marks arrived in the mark sheet and dividing the total marks obtained by the candidate in all the subjects in all semester(s)/year(s) by aggregate maximum marks into all the subjects irrespective of honors/optional/additional optional subject, if any. Marks obtained in a fraction of percentage will be ignored i.e. 59.99 per cent will be treated as less than 60 per cent and 54.99 per cent will be treated as less than 55 per cent.

SBI PO Educational Qualification: Passing Date

The passing date of SBI PO educational qualification is given below:

  • The passing date of SBI PO educational qualification appears on the marksheet or provisional certificate from university/institute
  • If the result of any examination is posted on the website of the University/ Institute and a certificate is issued by the appropriate authority of the University/ Institute indicating the date on which the result was posted on the website, it is taken as the passing date

SBI PO Number of Attempts

There is a limit to the number of attempts in SBI PO exam. The number of chances provided to different categories is given below.

Candidates who have already appeared for the maximum number of chances are not eligible to apply. The number of chances will be counted from the examination held on April 18, 2010. Appearing in a preliminary examination is not counted as a chance. In the years in which only one written examination is held (i.e. no prelims exam was conducted), those will be considered as an attempt.

SBI PO Eligibility 2023: CIBIL Score

Candidates with a record of default in repayment of loans/ credit card dues / or against whose name adverse reports of CIBIL or other external agencies are available are not eligible for appointment. Candidates against whom there is/ are adverse report regarding character & antecedents, moral turpitude is not eligible to apply for the post.

SBI PO Eligibility Criteria for Reserved Categories

SBI PO eligibility criteria for reserved categories is given below:

  • The candidates who don’t have any kind of certificate for their caste or category will fall under the General Category
  • Those who have a Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe Certificate declared by the Indian Government, should specify it in the SBI Application Form and they will have to show it in exams and the Interview
  • Under the Category of OBC, only the candidates coming under 'Non-Creamy Layer' will be treated as OBC
  • Under the EWS category, the benefits of reservation can be availed upon production of an ‘Income and Asset Certificate’ issued by a Competent Authority in the format prescribed by the Government of India
  • Candidates who are under PwD Category, need to mention their caste. They should indicate their category as 'GEN' or 'GEN (LD)' or 'GEN (VI)' or GEN (HI) or GEN (d&e) (as applicable)

Reservation for Persons With Disability (PWD)

PWD candidates are provided 4 per cent horizontal reservation according to section 34 of Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.

Locomotor Disabilities (LD): A person's inability to execute distinctive activities associated with the movement of self and objects resulting from affliction of the musculoskeletal or nervous system or both, including Cerebral Palsy, Leprosy Cured, Dwarfism, Muscular Dystrophy, and Acid Attack Victims. Orthopedically challenged persons are covered under locomotor disability with the following benchmark:

  • OA- One arm affected (Right or Left)
  • OL- One leg affected (Right or Left)
  • OAL- One arm & One Leg affected
  • BL- Both legs affected but not arms

Persons with OA and OAL category should have normal bilateral hand functions.

  • "Leprosy cured person” means a person who has been cured of leprosy but is suffering from:
  1. Loss of sensation in hands or feet as well as the loss of sensation and paresis in the eye and eye-lid but with no manifest deformity;
  2. Manifest deformity and paresis but having sufficient mobility in their hands and feet to enable them to engage in normal economic activity;
  3. Extreme physical deformity as well as advanced age which prevents him/her from undertaking any gainful occupation, and the expression "leprosy cured" shall be construed accordingly;
  • “Cerebral palsy" means a Group of non-progressive neurological conditions affecting body movements and muscle coordination, caused by damage to one or more specific areas of the brain, usually occurring before, during, or shortly after birth.
  • "Dwarfism" means a medical or genetic condition resulting in an adult height of 4 feet 10 inches (147 centimeters) or less.
  • "Muscular dystrophy" means a group of hereditary genetic muscle disease that weakens the muscles that move the human body and persons with multiple dystrophy have incorrect and missing information in their genes, which prevents them from making the proteins they need for healthy muscles. It is characterized by progressive skeletal muscle weakness, defects in muscle proteins, and the death of muscle cells and tissue;
  • Acid attack victims" means a person disfigured due to violent assaults by throwing acid or similar corrosive substance.
  • Visual Impairment (VI): Only those Visually Impaired (VI) persons who suffer from any one of the following conditions, after best correction, are eligible to apply.
  1. Blindness:
  2. The total absence of sight; OR
  3. Visual acuity less than 3/60 or less than 10/200 (Snellen) in the better eye with best possible correction; OR
  4. Limitation of the field of vision subtending an angle of less than 10 degree
  • Low Vision:
  1. Visual acuity not exceeding 6/18 or less than 20/60 up to 3/60 or up to 10/200 (Snellen) in the better eye with best possible corrections; OR
  2. Limitation of the field of vision subtending an angle of fewer than 40 degrees up to 10 degrees.
  • Hearing Impaired (HI):
  1. Deaf: This means a person having 70 DB hearing loss in speech frequencies in both ears.
  2. Hard of Hearing: It means a person having 60 DB to 70 DB hearing loss in speech frequencies in both ears.
  • “Specific Learning Disability” (SLD) means a heterogeneous group of conditions wherein there is a deficit in processing language, spoken or written, that may manifest itself as a difficulty to comprehend, speak, read, write, spell, or to do mathematical calculations and includes such conditions as perceptual disabilities, dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia, and developmental aphasia.
  • “Mental Illness” (MI) means a substantial disorder of thinking, mood, perception, orientation, or memory that grossly impairs judgment, behavior, capacity to recognize reality or ability to meet the ordinary demands of life, but does not include retardation which is a condition of arrested or incomplete development of mind of a person, especially characterized by subnormality of intelligence
  • “Multiple Disabilities” means multiple disabilities amongst LD, VI, HI, and SLD & MI.

Only the candidates with benchmark disabilities would be eligible for reservation. “Benchmark disability” means a person with not less than 40% of a specified disability where specified disability has not been defined in measurable terms and includes the persons with a disability, where disability has been defined in measurable terms, as certified by the certifying authority.

A person who wants to avail of the benefit of reservation will have to submit a disability certificate issued by a Competent Authority as per Government of India guidelines. Such certificate will be subject to verification/ re-verification as may be decided by the competent authority.
