The eligibility conditions for the Income Tax Inspector are not defined separately in the official notification. The educational qualification required for the SSC CGL exam is a graduate degree from any recognised university or institution.

The official notification mentions the age limit for the Income Tax Inspector post separately. The upper age limit for Income Tax Inspector is 30 years. The lower age limit is 18 years.

SSC CGL Income Tax Inspector - Pay Level
The Income Tax inspector post is an exception to the SSC CGL post because the post is classified as the Group C post but the pay level assigned to this post is an exception to the Group C posts. The pay levels assigned to all other Group C posts are Pay Levels 4 and 5. The pay level assigned to Income Tax Inspector is Pay Level 7 (INR 44,900 to 1, 42, 400).

The SSC CGL income tax inspector is the backbone of the Indian tax system. They work at the cutting-edge level of bureaucracy and are the front runners in maintaining compliance with the prevailing tax laws in India. Income Tax inspector works under the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). They are given functional powers by the person under whom they are appointed. They work specific to the task given to them by their seniors. The following functions are assigned to the Inspector of Income Tax but they need the permission of superiors before carrying out the following assigned duties:
- They can do surveys of financial entities, which include individuals, small companies and the like.
- Inspection of books of account or other documents as they may require and are available at the place of survey;
- Placement of marks of identification on the books of account or other documents inspected and make or cause to be made extracts or copies therefrom;
- They assist the competent authority in searching and seizure the articles
- Assist the authorise officers to assess the income tax filed by the individual
- Assist the authorise officers in the investigation of cases of tax fraud
- To be an active member in the Income Tax raids conducted by the department
- Inspectors can also make discreet inquiries relating to the information given in the form and give a report.
- They help carry out the function assigned to the income-tax authorities under Section 131, Section 132, Section 132 A, 133,133A, 133B, and Sec-134 of the Income Tax Act.
SSC CGL Income Tax Inspector Salary Structure
Recently, the Central Government has increased the Dearness Allowance for its employees. The DA increased from 34 per cent to 38 per cent from July 1, 2022. So there will be a hike in the salary of Central Government employees and consequently the Income Tax Inspectors. Income Tax Inspector is an exception to the SSC CGL posts because of the Pay level assigned to it and the Group of the service. The salary of an Income Tax Inspector depends on various factors such as the Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Travelling Allowance (TA), Leave Travelling Concession (LTC) and the like. The HRA depends on the city of posting the inspector and it makes a major difference in the inspector's salary at different geographical locations.

No. The Tier 1 marks for the SSC CGL are not used in the preparation of the final merit list. The SSC CGL Tier 1 exam is qualifying in nature. Candidates are shortlisted for Tier 2 exam. However, the final selection and ranking is based on the marks obtained in the SSC CGL Tier 2 exam.
