The icing on the cake is that the tips listed here are pretty simple and can be easily incorporated into your UCEED 2026 exam preparation plan. 7 Tips to Prepare for UCEED 2026
Here we bring you seven tips that you can easily incorporate in your preparation and get a head start.
1. Be alert
Yes, you heard it here first!
Unlike other top design entrance exams out there, the UCEED 2026 exam will not necessarily test your understanding of textbook concepts or even how you can apply them.
Explore colleges based on UCEED
Instead, it will test your ability and intuition.
The UCEED 2026 exam will test:
- Whether you are able to think out of the box
- Your ability to quickly observe, analyze and make an opinion of real-life situations.
- Whether you can do simple maths.
- Are you mentally and logically sound, especially how efficiently you are able to use your common sense?
The UCEED question paper will include tricky (rather than difficult) questions.
2. Get Trained
This tip reinforces the first point.
By now you know that the UCEED exam will test your ability and intuition, apart from your artistic perception.
If you consider the question paper of UCEED 2026, then the exam can be considered to be moderately difficult. For instance, of the 68 questions asked, around 18 questions fall in the moderate category, 18 in the moderate to difficult category, while the rest can be tagged easy to moderate.
In contrast, NIFT and NID DAT are considered to be tougher. This is because in NID DAT, more weightage is given to subjective and drawing-related questions. Consequently, the candidate needs to be very creative and have strong fundamentals to answer the questions. In NID DAT for the B. Des programme, DAT Prelims carries 40% weightage, while DAT Mains carries 60% weightage.
UCEED 2026 question paper included a total of 59 questions. The section-wise questions asked in Part A was: NAT (14), MSQs (15), and MCQs (28). Part B included a solitary Drawing-based question. The section-wise difficulty level of UCEED 2026 is given below.
Part A | Number of questions | Total marks | Difficulty level |
NAT | 14 | 56 | Moderate |
MSQ | 15 | 60 | Moderate to difficult |
MCQ | 28 | 84 | Easy to moderate |
Part B of the question paper included a sketching-based question of moderate difficulty level. The question will carry100 marks.
But how exactly do you hone these skills?
The answer is THROUGH Training.
- Be consistent with your preparation.
- Make it a habit to try and understand your surroundings.
- Train your artistic senses and work on improving your perception of space
- Along with solving logical questions, work on improving your logical thinking process.
3. Take mock tests
This tip is more or less known to all.
But given the nature of the UCEED exam, the importance of mock tests gets even more amplified.
For instance, by taking UCEED 2026 mock tests, you can learn by doing rather than simply studying the concepts. Mock tests are a great tool to test your creativity.
But many candidates are not sure when to start the mock tests.
Kaustubh Kaushal – AIR 2, UCEED 2022, suggests that candidates take mock tests as early as possible.
4. Solve previous years’ question papers; they are a goldmine
If you haven’t yet solved previous years’ UCEED question papers, do it right away.
Want to know why?
Kaustubh Kaushal topped the entrance exam entirely on the strength of solving the previous years’ UCEED question papers.
The official mock tests for the UCEED 2025 exam are usually taken in the last few days leading up to the exam.
So, you can take 3-4 mock tests. The purpose of the mock tests are to help you get familiar with the exam ambience, the question paper structure, and the navigation process.
Unofficial mock tests are more readily available and can be taken at anytime. However, the site offering unofficial mock tests may charge you a fee for taking their mock tests.
The candidate must focus more on solving sample papers to prepare for the UCEED 2025 exam. Note that unlike mock tests, sample papers can be used as exam preparation very early on in one’s exam preparation.
There is no specific number as such that you need to solve. But that being said, you must try to solve as many sample papers as possible for UCEED 2026. Note that at the initial stage, when you are starting of you exam preparation, you will not be able to solve the complete sample paper. It is only in the last few months, or may be weeks, that you can solve all the questions given in the sample papers. So, if you are able to solve may be say 10 odd sample papers before the exam, you will be in a good place to do well. There are multiple benefits of solving sample papers. The prime being, it will help you develop problem-solving and time-management skills.
As per the exam analysis done by Shiksha.com, the UCEED 2024 question paper was easy.
That being said, some candidates felt that the paper was a bit lengthy. The paper cotained few surprises, though; note that the UCEED syllabus was revised starting 2024.
The NAT sections was the most difficult of the three sections and included a few area-based questions. Drawing section was of moderate difficulty.
The candidate by consulting the exam analysis can analyze their performance.
As per his own admission, he didn’t follow any specific books or go to coaching. All he did was solve previous years’ question papers.
While it is not entirely an apples-to-apples comparison, it can be safely said that if the trick worked for Kaushal, it should also work for you.
Benefits of solving UCEED question papers:
- It will help you condition your mind to the difficulty level of questions that will be asked in UCEED 2026
- Help you learn time management. Remember, UCEED questions can be tricky, and some of them will require some additional time. But if you are able to manage your time properly, all the extra time will come in handy.
- Extra Tip: Along with previous years’ question papers, also solve UCEED sample papers.
Note: While you can solve sample papers at any stage of your preparation, they are most effective right before the examination.
5. Work on your observation skills
Part B will include a drawing and an aptitude-based question that carries 100 marks. The candidate will get 60 minutes to complete the paper.
You will be asked to make a drawing depicting real-life places, for example, the marketplace, office space, etc.
Typically, you are not asked to draw humans, but that being said, you must be ready for any surprises.
The examiners will evaluate whether your drawing can capture the minute details. So, you need to have a keen observation.
What matters?
It is the initial sketch that is the most crucial part, so make sure the lines you sketch are clearly defined.
Add shading and coloring, accordingly, but not at the cost of the sketching. Note that even if you manage to do light shading, it will fetch you good marks if you make a good sketch.
In the ideal scenario, you must take around 15-20 minutes to make the sketch, and 15-10 minutes to add color and shading.
Hone these skills:
- Draw confident and precise lines
- Develop shading skills; also learn quick shading tricks
- Work on your observation and recollection skills.
- Also, develop your sense of perspective
Note: The jury is more interested in your sense of perspective, sketching, and observation skills rather than how well you can shade or color.
6. Follow the official pattern and syllabus
You need to follow the UCEED 2026 syllabus and exam pattern released by IIT Bombay.
The syllabus will guide you on which topics you need to study, while the UCEED 2026 exam pattern will tell how about the paper structure.
7. Pick the best study material
The quality of the study material that you pick for your UCEED 2026 exam preparation will to a large extent decide the fate of your UCEED 2026 preparation.
If the UCEED 2026 books are top-notch, you can expect good results with proper effort.
But if the study material is poor, you are flirting with disaster.
Final Thoughts
Try out the strategies given above and see how your confidence level goes up along with your problem-solving ability. If you are diligent enough and work on these strategies, you are bound to get a very good rank in UCEED 2026.
