Overview

UCEED Exam Pattern 2027 - The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, releases the exam pattern of UCEED 2027 on its official portal. The exam pattern will be outlined in the UCEED 2027 Information Brochure. 

As per the UCEED 2027 exam pattern, Part A is expected to have 57 questions, and Part B is to have 2 questions - one question will be drawing-based, while the other question will be aptitude-based. The test duration for Part A will be around 200 marks and 2 hours, and Part B will be around 100 marks and 1 hour. UCEED entrance exam will be conducted by IIT Bombay on January 17, 2027.

Q:   When will the UCEED 2027 syllabus be released?
A: 

IIT Bombay will release syllabus for UCEED 2027 on October 01, 2026. So, if you are planning to appear in UCEED 2027 exam, you must follow the official syllabus.

UCEED syllabus contains topics that candidates need to prepare for the national-level design entrance exam. As per the UCEED syllabus, Part A has 57 questions and Part B includes two questions.

Q:   How do I download UCEED question paper?
A: 

Candidates can download question paper for UCEED exam by going to Download section. Then click on UCEED question paper on website. They are available for download in PDF. No login credentials are required to download the Question paper.

Q:   What kind of questions will be included in the UCEED mock tests?
A: 

IIT Bombay generally doesn’t conduct any mock tests for the UCEED exam. However, if it does conduct any mock tests for the exam, it will include similar type of questions to the ones asked in the entrance exam. This means, the questions will be of the same difficulty level, and will cover the same topics. That being said the mock test may contain fewer number of questions that the actual exam.

By taking the mock tests, the candidate will be able to learn the navigation process and also give final touches to one’s UCEED preparation.

Q:   What key points do candidates need to remember about UCEED Part B of question paper?

Candidate needs to remember following points about Part B question paper of UCEED.

  • Part B will include TWO questions. Question for section will be shown on the computer monitor.
  •  Candidate, after reading the question, has to write/ draw the answer option in the answer booklet provided by the invigilator.
  • Part B test will evaluate the drawing ability and Design Aptitude of the candidate.
  • Part B is mandatory and will only be evaluated if the candidate qualifies for Part A.
  • The cut-off marks for Part A will be declared by IIT Bombay before the declaration of results.
Q:   What is the last month exam preparation tips for UCEED?
A: 

In the last few months leading up to the UCEED exam, the candidate needs to follow this routine: If you have maintained a note, ensure you regularly go through the important points. Do timely revision of all the topics, especially the sticky concepts. Solve as many sample papers you can. Also take mock tests to get into the exam mood. Mocks will help you get an exam like ambience and you can get an idea as to how the question paper would be look like, the sections you need to attempt first, etc. Pay close attention to your health - sleep the full quote of hours, stay hydrated, do light exercise, and stay happy. It is also a good idea to not start any new topic at this stage of exam preparation.

Syllabus of UCEED is to help candidates identify topics and subjects from which questions can come in the UCEED Exam. Understand exam pattern and marking scheme and prepare accordingly. Candidates should check the syllabus before preparing UCEED.

UCEED 2027 Part A and B: Total Marks and Marking Scheme

The Part A UCEED question paper will include THREE types of questions.

  • Section 1: Numerical Answer Type (NAT): 14 questions (4 marks each; no negative marks). For these questions, an answer is a number that needs to be entered using a virtual keyboard on the computer screen. No choices will be shown for these questions.
  • Section 2: Multiple Select Questions (MSQ) - 15 questions. Each MSQ may have one or more than one correct choice(s) out of the four given. The following is the marking scheme:
    • Full Marks: + 4 If only (all) the correct option(s) is(are) chosen and NONE of the incorrect options are chosen.
    • Partial Marks: + 3 If all four options are correct but ONLY three options are chosen and NONE of the incorrect options are chosen.
    • Partial Marks: + 2 If three or more options are correct but ONLY two options are chosen, both of which are correct, and NONE of the incorrect options are chosen.
    • Partial Marks: + 1 If two or more options are correct but ONLY one option is chosen and it is a correct option and NONE of the incorrect options are chosen.
    • Zero Marks: 0 If none of the options is chosen (i.e., the question is unanswered).
    • Negative Marks: -1 In all other cases.
  • Section 3: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) - 28 questions (3 marks each for the correct answer; 0.71 negative marks for incorrect answers). Each MCQ will have four choices, out of which only one is the correct answer.

UCEED Part B - Marking scheme

The candidate needs to note the following points about the sketching (or Part B) test:

  1. Part B will include TWO questions
  2. The questions will be displayed on the computer screen, but the answer has to be written/ drawn in the answer book provided by the invigilator.
  3. Part B test will evaluate the drawing skills and design aptitude of the candidate. 
  4. Like Part A, Part B is also mandatory. This means that if the candidate doesn't attempt Part B, his or her results won't be declared.
  5. Note that for PwD candidates who are using the services of a scribe, no assistance in Part B is permitted. It is because the question seeks to evaluate the drawing skills of the candidate.
  6. The Part B answer booklets will be collected from the candidate at the end of the exam.

IIT Bombay released the admission notification for UCEED 2027 on October 1, 2026.

Candidates can check out the notification online at the UCEED admission portal uceed.iitb.ac.in. IIT Bombay has launched a new admission portal for UCEED 2027. 

Q:   What kind of questions will be asked from the UCEED visualization and spatial reasoning section?
A: 

Visual and spatial reasoning section of UCEED will include pictorial and diagrammatic questions that will evaluate candidates' understanding of the transformation and manipulation of 2D shapes and 3D objects and their spatial relationships. The candidate needs to practice the following topics to prepare for the section: Conventional/Unconventional Materials for Construction, Design, and Decoration Texture Making Materials, Production Materials, Decoration Materials - Flooring, Cladding (protective material which covers the surface of something), Wall Protection and Decoration - Paints, Plasters, etc. Pattern and Design of Paper Folding Materials and Type of Texture Optical Illusion (2D/3D objects and understanding).

A: 

UCEED question paper will have two parts. Part A will be online and Part B will be offline. Part A will include Numerical Answer Type, Multiple Select Question and Multiple Choice Question. Part B will have sketching and drawing questions.

To fill the Common application form for B.Des released by IIT Bombay,

UCEED 2027 Exam Pattern - FAQs

Q:   What types of questions will be asked in Section 3 of UCEED question paper?
A: 

UCEED Part A question paper will include three sections. Of these three sections, Section 3 will include 28 multiple choice questions. Each of these questions will carry 3 marks. 0.71 marks will be deducted for each incorrect answer. The total marks for this section is  96. Each MCQ will have four options. Out of these four options, only one is correct.

Q:   What types of questions will be asked in Section 2 of UCEED question paper?
A: 

The UCEED question paper for Part A will include three sections.

It will include 28 Multiple Select Questions (MSQs). Each MSQ may have one or more than one correct choice (s) out of the four given.

The following marking scheme will be followed for MSQ-type questions:

  • Full Marks: + 4 If only (all) the correct option (s) is (are) chosen and None of the incorrect options is chosen.
  •  Partial Marks: + 3 If all four options are correct but ONLY three options are chosen, and None of the incorrect options is chosen.
  • Partial Marks: + 2 If three or more options are correct but ONLY two options are chosen, both of which are correct and None of the incorrect options is chosen.

Q:   When will IIT Bombay release full details of the revised exam pattern for UCEED?
A: 

IIT Bombay revised syllabus for the UCEED exam in the previous edition. As per the revised syllabus, the exam conducting released the part-wise topics that candidates needed to prepare for the exam. It also released some information related to the new exam pattern, for instance the Part B now includes two questions (instead of one), while the test duration for the part was increased to 60 minutes (from 30 minutes). IIT Bombay released the full details about the UCEED  in its information brochure. Note that the information brochure was released on its official website.

Q:   What types of questions will be asked in Section 1 of UCEED question paper?
A: 

UCEED question paper will have questions from Numerical Answer Type (NAT) in Section 1. There will be 18 questions of 4 marks each. There will be no negative marking for incorrect answers. 

Q:   Can students from Commerce/ Arts or Humanities apply for admission to IIT Guwahati through UCEED 2027?
A: 

Yes, candidates from all streams can fill the application form of UCEED. Also, note that Biology will not be considered in place of Mathematics. The application form for UCEED 2027 must be filled out by candidates after ascertaining their eligibility. IIT Roorkee has the same eligibility criteria as IIT Guwahati.

 

Q:   How to register for the UCEED 2026 Counselling?
A: 
  • The 1st step of UCEED 2026 counseling is online registration. Candidates who have qualified in the entrance exam and have been assigned a merit rank in UCEED were eligible to participate in the counseling process. 
  • The 2nd step is the selection of campuses. Eligible candidates must register for counseling and select their preferred colleges in order of priority during registration.
  • In the 3rd step, seat allotment is made. The allotment of seats is as per the merit rank of the candidate in UCEED and the choices selected. Post the allotment of seats, the candidate has to pay the seat acceptance fee and confirm their admission.
Q:   Do I need to qualify Part A to be included in the UCEED 2026 merit list?
A: 

Yes, you need to qualify UCEED Part A to be included in the UCEED Merit List. 

UCEED Part B question paper is not evaluated unless the candidate qualifies Part A. Further, only such candidates who have qualified Part A are shortlisted and are allocated a merit rank. In case of candidates who have failed to qualify Part A of UCEED, they are not issued any merit rank. Their scorecard merely includes Part A scores. In case of candidates who are shortlisted and are issued a merit rank, they can participate in UCEED and seat allotment.

Q:   Can I participate in counseling if I have not been assigned a merit rank in UCEED 2026?
A: 

No, you cannot participate if you have not been given a merit rank in the UCEED 2026.

Counseling process for UCEED 2026 will be conducted as a Joint Seat Allotment process. To participate in the counseling, the candidate must have qualified for the UCEED 2026 and assigned a merit rank in the UCEED exam. If the candidate doesn't have a merit rank, he or she is not eligible to participate the counseling-cum-seat allotment process.

Q:   When is UCEED 2027 Entrance Exam?
A: 

UCEED 2027 Entrance Exam will be on January 17, 2027 on Sunday. The exam is for B.Des programmes at IITs conducted by IIT Bombay.

No, you cannot get into IIT Bombay with a UCEED cutoff rank of 20 for the BDes course. IIT Bombay 2026 admission closed at a cutoff rank of 14 for B.Des in the General category under the AI quota. Hence, candidates must target a lower cutoff rank than 2020 to secure a B.Des seat at this college.

No, students can not get admission in Symbiosis Institute of Design Nagpur with UCEED scores. The institute conducts its own entrance exam. Students must appear for the Symbiosis Entrance Exam for Design - SEEED instead.
