Preparing for GATE 2020 in the field of Civil Engineering (CE)? There are certain important things that you must keep in mind and create a preparation strategy.
To begin with, it is advised that you start preparing for the exam in the third year of Engineering. One should give at least five hours on a daily basis. If you are a dropout student, you can give more time.

Concept clearing is important in GATE preparation. Therefore, one should be dedicated to making good concepts. One should have proper notes on every subject.
Short notes are also important in GATE preparation. During the last days, one should focus on revising the concepts and making good efforts to excel in the exam. At least revise the short notes four times. The practice is important. One should also focus on some type of problems asked in the exam every year. Sample papers should be considered of past years as they are of great help to students.
As far as CE for GATE is considered, Solid Mechanics, Geotechnical Engineering, Fluid Mechanics and Fluid Machine, Environment Engineering and Transportation Engineering cover most of the syllabus among 12 subjects. Apart from this, there are some other topics as Math that cover nearly 15 marks. Aptitude, including English cover 15 marks each year. Sometimes questions from mechanics are also asked so one should be well versed with the same. Problems based on various sub-topics such as duty delta relation in irrigation engineering, Infiltration, runoff and hydrograph in hydrology, open channel flow in the fluid are frequently asked. Therefore, one should be very well aware of the exam pattern and scoring subjects in GATE.
Different study materials are available in the market of various coaching institutes. Standard books are also available. Also one can go for offline and online coaching. One can plan to read the whole syllabus by own. There are various other engineering books and lectures available for deep learning (If u have extra time). It is suggested to take one source and clear your concept with proper strategy. You can also try to make notes of your own with the help of various materials. It is suggested to add up new concepts used in solving questions. For better understanding, you can take help of various YouTube lectures available.
