NEET UG Dress Code 2026: What to Wear & What to Avoid

The NTA has notified the NEET dress code separately for male and female candidates. Check the rules below-
NEET Dress Code for Female 2026
For females, the following guidelines related to NEET 2026 dress code on the exam day have to be followed:
- Wear simple t-shirts/ shirts/ kurta.
- Long-sleeved clothes or Woollen clothes are allowed.
- Do not wear heavy dress or fancy-sleeved clothing.
- Simple clothes with no elaborate embroidery, buttons, frills, etc.
- Metallic/ non-metallic jewellery is not permitted.
- Closed shoes are not allowed. Slippers, sandals or low heels are allowed.
NEET Dress Code for Male 2026
For male candidates appearing for NEET UG, NTA has stated the guidelines regarding dress code:
- Long-sleeved clothes or Woollen clothes allowed
- Simple clothes with no zips, pockets, huge buttons, etc.
- Simple trousers/ pants without pockets.
- Kurta pyjamas and layers of clothing is not allowed
- Open footwear like slippers and sandals is allowed.
- Do not wear any covered footwear like shoes and boots.

NEET Customary Dress Code 2026
Candidates who have certain religious beliefs due to which they cannot follow the dress code for NEET 2026 needed to select 'Customary Dress' option when they submitted the NEET application form 2026. Such candidates can wear the customary or religious attire and need to report to the centres at least an hour before the exam for proper frisking and security procedures. In such cases, candidates need to reach the exam centre by 10:00 am so that there is sufficient time for proper security checks without any inconvenience to the candidate while maintaining the sanctity of the exam.
NEET Prohibited Items List 2026
Along with the NEET dress code 2026, NTA has listed the barred items that a candidate is not supposed to carry on the day of the examination. If found in possession of any of the below-mentioned items, the candidate will not be allowed to take the NEET UG 2026 examination and will have to leave the examination hall.
List of Prohibited Items at Exam Centres
Have a look at the items not allowed to be carried to the NEET 2026 exam centre below-
- Any of the test-based material in either written or printed form, bits of papers
- Pencil box, pouches, geometry box
- Bags and wallets, belts, caps and goggles, etc.
- Ornaments and watches
- Communication devices like mobile phones, bluetooth, earphones, microphone, pager, health band, etc.
- Calculator and scanners
- Any food item, packed or opened, and water bottle
Note: In case of any medical problem or deviation regarding the dress code or prohibited items, candidates need to report the same to the NTA before the release of NEET admit card 2026.
