IIT Delhi Celebrates International Women's Day

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi celebrated International Women’s Day with an inspiring keynote talk and an engaging panel discussion titled ‘Baaton Baaton Mein,’ aligned with the IWD 2025 theme #AccelerateAction. The event brought together faculty, staff, and students from various schools and colleges across Delhi NCR.

To mark the occasion, the I-Hub Foundation for Cobotics (IHFC), IIT Delhi's Technology Innovation Hub, in collaboration with the IIT Delhi Alumni Association and Academic Outreach office, announced a call for applications for funding under the IITD Women in AI & Robotics Initiative. The initiative offers up to INR 2 crore to support and empower women in technology.

Women of Impact at IIT Delhi Awards

Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director of IIT Delhi, announced the launch of the “Women of Impact at IIT Delhi Awards” and emphasised the need for a supportive environment that nurtures the growth of every community member. He also highlighted the institute’s recent initiatives for women and outlined plans to promote an inclusive academic ecosystem.

After the Director's address, Prof. Shilpi Sharma, Associate Dean of Academics (Outreach & New Initiatives), introduced the keynote speaker, Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, Chairperson of the M. S. Swaminathan Research Foundation. Dr. Swaminathan, formerly WHO's first Chief Scientist and Director General of ICMR, delivered an inspiring talk titled ‘Holding up Half the Sky.’ She shared valuable insights on empowerment and the way forward in celebration of International Women’s Day. The session concluded with an engaging discussion, where attendees actively interacted with Dr. Swaminathan.

The celebrations on March 7 continued with an engaging open forum titled ‘Baaton Baaton Mein,’ which highlighted the experiences of women at IIT Delhi. The session saw enthusiastic participation from faculty, staff, and students. Esteemed faculty members Prof. Angelie Multani, Prof. Deepti Gupta, and Prof. Ravinder Kaur shared insights from their professional journeys and how they successfully challenged stereotypes along the way.
