
MHT CET 2026: The Maharashtra State CET Cell will hold the MHT CET 2026 exam in two sessions. The MHT CET 2026 exam date for session 1 is April 11 to 19 for the PCM group and April 21 to 26 for the PCB group. What is MHT CET?
MHT CET is a state level exam held for engineering and pharmacy course admission in the state of Maharashtra. Check all details on the exam below:
Conducted by: The MHT CET exam is conducted by the Commissioner of the State Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell.
Purpose of the exam: The exam is conducted for admission to BTech, BPharm, BPlan, integrated BTech-MTech course, and PharmD course offered by various Government, Government Aided, University Managed Institutes, University Managed Departments and Unaided private professional educational institutes of Maharashtra state.
How many students register and appear for MHT CET exam: Around 6 to 7 lakh candidates register for the MHT CET exam, and 5 to 6 lakh candidates appear every year.
Mode of the exam (NEW): For the first time ever, MHT CET exam will be held twice a year from 2026 onwards. Until last year, the exam was held once a year. With this, Maharashtra becomes the first state to hold an engineering entrance exam twice a year. MHT CET is the first state-level engineering exam that will be held twice a year.

Exam Pattern: Talking about the exam pattern, MHT CET 2026 has 3 papers, and all are held in computer-based test mode at various test centres across the state of Maharashtra as well as outside Maharashtra state.
- MHT CET paper 1 is Maths (M), Paper 2 is Physics (P) & Chemistry (C), and Paper 3 is Biology (B). There will multiple choice questions in all three papers. There will be 50 MCQs in paper 1, and each question will carry 2 marks. Paper 2 will have 100 MCQS with 1 marks each, and Paper 3 will also have 100 MCQS with 1 marks each. There is no negative marking in the exam.
- Based on the course the candidate is applying for, they have to either attempt the PCM group paper or the PCB group paper. A candidate can choose to apply for both groups. Both papers are held for 3 hours.
Syllabus: The syllabus of MHT CET is based on the syllabus of the State Council of Educational Research and Training, Maharashtra. 20% weightage will be given to the class 11 syllabus and 80% weightage class 12 syllabus while preparing the MHT CET question papers.
Admission process: The candidates who appear for MHT CET have to check their MHT CET result and register for the MHT CET Common Admission Process (CAP) for admission to colleges. Candidates who are not from Maharashtra can also appear in the MHT CET. They also have the option of applying for BTech admission through JEE Main and BPharm admission via NEET in MHT CET CAP counselling. Admission will be done based on the ranks of the candidates in MHT CET/JEE Main/Qualifying exam marks.

Nationality and Domicile
Candidate must be an Indian citizen. Candidates fulfilling any of the following criteria are considered Maharashtra state domicile candidates:
- A candidate who is either a domicile of Maharashtra or born in Maharashtra.
- A candidate whose father or mother is domiciled in the State of Maharashtra and holds a Domicile Certificate.
- A candidate whose either of the parents is an employee of the Government of India or a Government of India Undertaking (PSUs) and is posted and reported for duty in Maharashtra State.
- A candidate whose parents are employees or retired employees of the Government of Maharashtra or a Government of Maharashtra Undertaking (PSUs).
- Candidates who have passed the SSC and/or HSC Examination from a disputed Maharashtra-Karnataka Border Area, or Maharashtra, residing in the disputed Maharashtra-Karnataka Border area, and whose mother tongue is Marathi.

Getting registered at CET Portal
- Register: Visit the official website of the CET cell - cetcell.mahacet.org. Now register using the details asked.
- Verify: On submitting the details, a verification email will be sent to the email id. Go to inbox and click on the verification link.
- Login: After verification of the email ID, candidates have to login using the registered email ID and the password created during registration.

The Maharashtra State CET Cell will provide the facility to correct/modify the details in MHT CET application form after the completion of the application process. It is not compulsory to attempt all the question in MHT CET exam. Students are advised to attempt only those questions for which they know the correct answer. Candidates who have not applied or still have not appeared in MHT CET can participate in the counselling based on their JEE Main score. Those who do not have MHT CET or JEE Main score can also participate in counselling based on class 12 marks.
The Maharashtra Common Entrance Test Cell conducts the counselling in three or four rounds, depending upon the number of candidates participating in the counselling. The MHT CET CAP counselling 2025 had 4 rounds while in 2024, the counselling was conducted in 3 rounds.
There is no minimum qualifying marks in MHT CET exam. Candidates gets all India rank in MHT CET on the basis of the marks they get in the exam. Admission to the institutes is given on the basis of all India rank of candidates. After the release of result, Maharashtra CET Cell releases the merit list which is formulated by considering marks of class 12 and MHT CET and will have All India rank of candidates. The seats will be allotted in institutes based on All India rank.
