MHT CET 2026: The Maharashtra State CET Cell will hold the MHT CET 2026 exam in two sessions. The MHT CET 2026 exam date for session 1 is April 11 to 19 for the PCM group and April 21 to 26 for the PCB group. Session 2 will be held from May 14 to 17 for the PCM group and for the PCB group, from May 10 to 11. MHT CET 2026 registrations are expected to start by the last week of December 2026 on the official MHT CET website - cetcell.mahacet.org.

MHT CET 2026 exam will be held in computer based test mode for admission to BTech, BPharm, BPlan, integrated BTech-MTech course, and PharmD course offered by various Government, Government Aided, University Managed Institutes, University Managed Departments and Unaided private professional educational institutes of Maharashtra state.

The candidates who have passed/appearing in the Class 12 board exam in 2026 can apply for the MHT CET 2026 exam. MHT CET exam has three papers (paper 1 is Maths, paper 2 is Physics & Chemistry, and paper 3 is Biology). Candidates interested in admission to BTech,  BPlan, and integrated BTech-MTech courses have to attempt papers 1 and 2 (PCM group), whereas candidates who want to take admission in BPharm and PharmD courses have to appear in paper 1 and 3 (PCB group).

What is MHT CET?

MHT CET is a state level exam held for engineering and pharmacy course admission in the state of Maharashtra. Check all details on the exam below:

Conducted by: The MHT CET exam is conducted by the Commissioner of the State Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell.

Purpose of the exam: The exam is conducted for admission to BTech, BPharm, BPlan, integrated BTech-MTech course, and PharmD course offered by various Government, Government Aided, University Managed Institutes, University Managed Departments and Unaided private professional educational institutes of Maharashtra state.

How many students register and appear for MHT CET exam: Around 6 to 7 lakh candidates register for the MHT CET exam, and 5 to 6 lakh candidates appear every year.

Mode of the exam (NEW): For the first time ever, MHT CET exam will be held twice a year from 2026 onwards. Until last year, the exam was held once a year. With this, Maharashtra becomes the first state to hold an engineering entrance exam twice a year. MHT CET is the first state-level engineering exam that will be held twice a year.

Exam Pattern: Talking about the exam pattern, MHT CET 2026 has 3 papers, and all are held in computer-based test mode at various test centres across the state of Maharashtra as well as outside Maharashtra state.

  • MHT CET paper 1 is Maths (M), Paper 2 is Physics (P) & Chemistry (C), and Paper 3 is Biology (B). There will multiple choice questions in all three papers. There will be 50 MCQs in paper 1, and each question will carry 2 marks. Paper 2 will have 100 MCQS with 1 marks each, and Paper 3 will also have 100 MCQS with 1 marks each. There is no negative marking in the exam.
  • Based on the course the candidate is applying for, they have to either attempt the PCM group paper or the PCB group paper. A candidate can choose to apply for both groups. Both papers are held for 3 hours.

Syllabus: The syllabus of MHT CET is based on the syllabus of the State Council of Educational Research and Training, Maharashtra. 20% weightage will be given to the class 11 syllabus and 80% weightage class 12 syllabus while preparing the MHT CET question papers.

Admission process: The candidates who appear for MHT CET have to check their MHT CET result and register for the MHT CET Common Admission Process (CAP) for admission to colleges. Candidates who are not from Maharashtra can also appear in the MHT CET. They also have the option of applying for BTech admission through JEE Main and BPharm admission via NEET in MHT CET CAP counselling. Admission will be done based on the ranks of the candidates in MHT CET/JEE Main/Qualifying exam marks.

Difficulty level of MHT CET exam: The difficulty level of MHT CET exam is similar to that of JEE Main exam.

A: 

The syllabus of MHT CET is similar to class 11 and 12 however not all the topics of class 11 are covered in MHT CET. As per the official syllabus released by the Maharashtra CET Cell, only some topics of class 11 are covered in MHT CET and all the topics of class 12 are covered. Students can download the official MHT CET syllabus from Shiksha page or from the CET website.

MHT CET 2026 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates can check here the MHT CET 2026 eligibility criteria. Candidates applying for MHT CET exam 2026 must ensure they fulfill the eligibility criteria before filling the application form.

Nationality and Domicile

Candidate must be an Indian citizen. Candidates fulfilling any of the following criteria are considered Maharashtra state domicile candidates:

  • A candidate who is either a domicile of Maharashtra or born in Maharashtra.
  • A candidate whose father or mother is domiciled in the State of Maharashtra and holds a Domicile Certificate.
  • A candidate whose either of the parents is an employee of the Government of India or a Government of India Undertaking (PSUs) and is posted and reported for duty in Maharashtra State.
  • A candidate whose parents are employees or retired employees of the Government of Maharashtra or a Government of Maharashtra Undertaking (PSUs).
  • Candidates who have passed the SSC and/or HSC Examination from a disputed Maharashtra-Karnataka Border Area, or Maharashtra, residing in the disputed Maharashtra-Karnataka Border area, and whose mother tongue is Marathi.
  • Candidates belonging to a specific linguistic or religious minority community from the State of Maharashtra, as notified by the Government, can apply for the MHT CET.

Qualifying Exam:

  • Candidates must have passed class 12 or be appearing in class 12 in 2026
  • Candidate should have Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with any one subject among Chemistry/ Biotechnology/ Biology/ Technical Vocational subject/ Computer Science/Information Technology/ Informatics Practices/ Agriculture/ Engineering Graphics/Business Studies in class 12.
  • Candidates must obtain at least 45% marks in class 12. Candidates belonging to the backward class, Economically Weaker Section, and Persons with Disability category should obtain at least 40% marks in class 12.

Age Limit:

There is no age limit to apply for MHT CET.

For Non-Maharashtra State Candidates

All the conditions of eligibility are the same for Maharashtra as well as non-Maharashtra candidates.

Candidates who are not from Maharashtra can also appear in the MHT CET. They also have the option to skip MHT CET and apply for BTech admission through JEE Main and BPharm admission via NEET in MHT CET CAP counselling.

In most of the colleges, 85% seats are for Maharashtra State (MS) candidates, and 15% seats are All India Seats.

Also note: OCI/PIO and NRI candidates are exempted from appearing in MHT CET. Such candidates can apply for admission based on class 12/equivalent exams. Separate counselling is held for OCI/PIO/NRI candidates after the admission process of MHT CET.

CET cell releases the MHT CET application form online on the official website only. The eligible candidates have to complete the MHT CET 2026 application form filling process before the deadline. To fill the MHT CET form, candidates can follow the process below:

Getting registered at CET Portal

  • Register: Visit the official website of the CET cell - cetcell.mahacet.org. Now register using the details asked.
  • Verify: On submitting the details, a verification email will be sent to the email id. Go to inbox and click on the verification link.
  • Login: After verification of the email ID, candidates have to login using the registered email ID and the password created during registration.
  • Fill application form: After login, the online form will open. Fill in the following details in the form:
    • Personal details
    • Address
    • Other details like domicile, religion, qualifying exam details, etc.
    • Submit details: After filling the form, submit the details filled.

Applying for MHT CET

After registration on the CET portal, candidates are redirected to the dashboard. Here, candidates have to select the MHT CET exam and apply for the same. Most of the details in the form will be filled with the data filled during the registration process. However, candidates have to fill the details below:

After successful completion of the MHT CET application fee payment, candidates can take a printout of the filled form and keep it safe.

MHT CET Application Form Correction

The Maharashtra State CET Cell will provide the facility to correct/modify the details in MHT CET application form after the completion of the application process. To access MHT CET application form correction window, candidates have to login to the official website using their registered email ID and password.  After login, candidates will find three new links under the "important links" Menu for MHT CET form correction.

  3. Edit My Application Form

Change Subject Group: Under the change subject group, subjects can be changed from PCM to PCB or PCB to PCM.

Add Subject Group: Candidates can also add subject group PCM or PCB if they missed adding it while filling application form. The candidate must pay application fee along with late fee for the new subject group added.

Edit My Application Form: Using this link, candidate can change name, date of birth, photo, and signature.

Note: In case, the candidate has forgotten the password and cannot access their application for correction, they should click on link that says “I cannot access my account” in the login page to reset their password.

Q:   Do I need to attempt all the questions in MHT CET exam?
A: 

It is not compulsory to attempt all the question in MHT CET exam. Students are advised to attempt only those questions for which  they know the correct answer. Questions for which the answer is not sure should be left. However, as there is NO negative marking in MHT CET exam,  questions for which answer is doubtful can be attempted in last. Students gets All India Rank based on the marks they secure in exam and gets admission based on that rank.

A: 

Candidates who have not applied or still have not appeared in MHT CET can participate in the counselling based on their JEE Main score. Those who do not have MHT CET or JEE Main score can also participate in counselling based on class 12 marks.

Q:   How many rounds are there in MHT CET counselling?
A: 

The Maharashtra Common Entrance Test Cell conducts the counselling in three or four rounds, depending upon the number of candidates participating in the counselling. The MHT CET CAP counselling 2025 had 4 rounds while in 2024, the counselling was conducted in 3 rounds.

Q:   What are the qualifying marks in MHT CET?

There is no minimum qualifying marks in MHT CET exam. Candidates gets all India rank in MHT CET on the basis of the marks they get in the exam. Admission to the institutes is given on the basis of all India rank of candidates. After the release of result, Maharashtra CET Cell releases the merit list which is formulated by considering marks of class 12 and MHT CET and will have All India rank of candidates. The seats will be allotted in institutes based on All India rank.

Candidates are allotted an exam centre based on the choices of exam city filled by the candidate at the time of filling the application form. MHT CET 2026 Merit List and Ranks

After the results are announced, the candidates have to register at the MHT CET 2026 CAP counselling portal. The CET Cell then release a merit list of all candidates who register for the counselling.

Provisional MHT CET merit list 2026: The CET cell first releases the provisional MHT CET merit list. This merit list is open for feedback. If there is any change in the marks of the candidates, they can notify the CET cell. CET cell verifies the feedback and makes necessary changes in the merit lists, if needed.

Final MHT CET 2026 merit list: A final merit list is uploaded after checking all the grievances from the candidates in the provisional merit list. This merit list will be final, and the seats via the MHT CET CAP 2026 counselling will be allotted based on the merit position of the candidates in this final list.

Merit list of MHT CET is prepared considering class 12 marks and CET in 50:50 ratio. The position of candidates in the merit list will be based on marks obtained by adding the MHT CET and class 12 marks. MHT CET 2026 Counselling

The Maharashtra CET Cell conducts the MHT CET counselling. The counselling process is called the MHT CET Centralised Admission Process (CAP). All candidates with a non-zero MHT CET score have to register for the MHT CET CAP counselling for admission. The registered candidates are then allotted a merit number in the MHT CET merit list. 

Candidates whose names appear in the MHT CET merit list can participate in the counselling by filling choices of college and courses. The allotment of seats will be made based on the ranks of the candidates in the MHT CET merit list. The CET Cell will conduct 3 to 4 rounds of CAP 2026 counselling, depending upon the number of candidates.
