UCEED exam analysis 2019 by experts informs about the test pattern, difficulty level and cutoffs to expect for IIT admissions 2019 in BDes course.
UCEED Exam Analysis 2019 - UCEED, the Undergraduate Common Entrance Exam for Design, a relatively newer baby from the Industrial Design Centre of IIT Bombay is fast gaining grounds among the design aspirants as it is an opportunity which marries best of both the worlds, IIT and Design. Offering four year BDes Programme at IIT Mumbai, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad (joining the band wagon from this year onwards) and IIITDM Jabalpur.
UCEED saw a noticeable rise in its applicant this year. The fact that it could be a gateway to enter IITs without PCM in 10 + 2 is also a big draw among the students, though IIT Guwahati, among the four, takes its candidates from the ones having PCM in their 10+2.

The uniqueness of UCEED being the only Design Aptitude exam which is computer based, is making it all the more popular as students not having any formal training in drawing can also find their calling in UCEED exam pattern if they are gifted enough with the X factor of creative visualisation.
This year seems to spring surprise after surprise for design entrance takers as after the NID exam, it was UCEED which made some unannounced changes in their pattern. Though the changes were only in the marking pattern not in the exam pattern, it was still good enough to unsettle the students momentarily at the start of the exam.
The change in UCEED 2019 being that unlike previous year where only MCQ section had negative marking, that is, +3/ -1, this year this was revised to +4/ -1.32. In addition to this, another section of MSQ format also saw negative marking being brought back, that is, +3/ -0.19. However, the examination patter remained the same as announced.
The three hour duration computer based test comprised of three sections:
Numerical Aptitude Test (NAT): This was a set of 20 Maths based questions where the students had to solve and key in answers to. This segment had no negative marking, that is, +3/ -0 and some of the questions were of considerable toughness level which consumed lot of time in calculations as well.
Multiple Selection Questions (MSQ): This was section B and it comprised of 20 questions, that is, +3/ -0.19 marking pattern. The section, by its nature of having multiple answers, is always considered toughest by the students. The re-introduction of negative marking made it more challenging!
Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ): Section C comprised of 45 questions in Multiple Choice format, that is, +4/ -1.32. It was felt that though negative marking had increased, the paper itself was more approachable than the previous year’s UCEED question papers comprising of questions like:
- Counting surfaces
- Font recognition
- Production processes
- Craft identification
- Completing the series
- Visual puzzles
- Special recognition and the likes.
Three hours of continuous screen time with focused undivided attention with the clock ticking on the head, topped with such limited intake makes UCEED one of the most vied for Design entrance exam which is seeing growing competition every year. The scores this year are expected to dip than last year’s owing to the enhanced negative marking.
UCEED results 2019 are expected around March 1, 2019. This year onwards some more colleges have been brought under the umbrella of UCEED who will be considering UCEED scores to offer admissions to the BDesign courses on their campuses. It is however upon the discretion of the candidates to accept the offer not a binding from UCEED conducting body. View list of colleges accepting UCEED scores for admissions.
Wishing All the Luck once again!

The closing rank for IIT Hyderabad was 43. So, if you secure a merit rank of 100 in the UCEED 2026 exam, you chances of admission to the B. Des will be very low. To have a good chance of admission into the institute, you must target a UCEED merit rank within the top 40. However, note that if you bel
