UCEED Seat Matrix 2027 - Total Seats (B.Des), Colleges/ Category-wise Seat Intake, Reservation

The Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED) is an important exam for students who want to join the Bachelor of Design (B.Des) programs at top design colleges in India. For the 2027-2028 academic year, only students who qualify for UCEED 2027 can apply for admission to B.Des programs at IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Roorkee, and IIITDM Jabalpur. There are currently seven participating institutes of UCEED 2027 that offer a combined intake of 245 seats to the B.Des program. The participating institutes are IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Roorkee, IIITDM Jabalpur, and IIT Indore. Admission to the B.Des program is conducted through a UCEED Joint Admission Process, with the allotment of seats to be done based on UCEED 2027 merit rank. 

It may be noted that a participating institute has the right to make any changes to the seat matrix. IIT Bombay will release the updated seat matrix for UCEED 2027 on its admission portal - uceed.iitb.ac.in. So, the candidates are urged to keep looking for any new updates. 

Seat Allotment Process Overview

UCEED 2027 will conduct five rounds of seat allotment. Seats are provisionally allocated based on the candidate's All India Rank (AIR) in UCEED 2027, their category, and their preferred institutes. Selected candidates will receive provisional allotment letters via their registered email addresses. Upon receiving the allotment letter, candidates must remit a Seat Acceptance Fee of ₹60,000 for GEN/EWS/OBC-NCL categories and ₹15,000 for SC/ST/PwD categories through the provided online payment system.

UCEED Seat Matrix for B Des 2027-2028

The category-wise distribution of available seats across IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Roorkee, IIITDM Jabalpur, and IIT Indore is as follows:

I. UCEED 2027 Reservation for General Category

• General category belonging to Economically Weaker Section (GEN-EWS) – 10% of seats in every course. The benefit of reservation will be given only to those General category candidates who satisfy the conditions given in the OM No. 20013/01/2018-BC-II  issued by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
• The criteria for GEN-EWS will be as per the prevailing norms and/or notifications of the Government of India.
• EWS certificates issued only on or after April 1, 2027, are accepted for admissions to the Institutes in the academic year 2027-28. 

II. UCEED 2027 Reservation for OBC Category

• Other Backward Classes belonging to the Non-Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL) – 27% of seats in every course.
• OBCs should be listed in the current updated central list of OBCs (ncbc.nic.in).
• OBCs present in the state list but not covered in the central list of OBCs (as per the list in ncbc.nic.in) are NOT eligible to claim the reservation.
• The criteria for Non-Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL) will be as per the notification of Government of India. OBC-NCL certificates issued only on or after April 1, 2026, are accepted for admissions to the Institutes in the academic year 2027-28.
• Candidates belonging to the creamy layer of OBC are NOT entitled to reservation. Such candidates are treated as belonging to the general (GEN), i.e., unreserved category, and they will be eligible only for OPEN seats.

III. UCEED 2027 Reservation for SC and ST Category

• Scheduled Caste (SC) – 15% of seats in every course.
• Scheduled Tribe (ST) – 7.5% of seats in every course

IV. UCEED 2027 Reservation for PwD Category

• Persons with Disability (PwD) – 5% seats in each of OPEN, GEN-EWS, OBCNCL, SC, and ST category seats.
• Candidates with at least 40% impairment, irrespective of the type of disability i.e., locomotor, visual or severe dyslexic, shall be eligible for the benefits of PwD sub-category.
• Leprosy-cured candidates who are otherwise fit to pursue the courses are also included in this sub-category. 

V. UCEED 2027 Reservation for Foreign Nationals

• Candidates who are not citizens of India (by birth or naturalized) (but not OCI/PIO candidates) shall be considered as foreign nationals. Seats allotted to such foreign national candidates are supernumerary, with a cap of 10% of total number of seats in every course. 
• OCI/PIO Candidates: Candidates with OCI/PIO cards issued BEFORE 4th March 2021 will be considered for the seats in the OPEN category as per the judgment passed by the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India concerning the Writ Petition (Civil) 891 / 2021, dated February 03, 2023.
• Candidates with OCI/PIO cards issued on or AFTER 4th March 2021 will be treated as foreign nationals and eligible only for foreign supernumerary seats.

UCEED 2027 Seat Allotment (FINAL Round): Do's and Don'ts

• Candidates who are allotted a seat for the first time in the final round have to directly pay the UCEED seat acceptance fee to the institute where they are offered provisional admission.
• Candidates who have paid the seat acceptance fee have to contact their respective institutes concerning the balance fee payment and registration process.
• There will be no further rounds of seat allocation, and hence there is NO option to withdraw an accepted/allotted seat.
• It will be the responsibility of the candidate to provide the correct and complete information regarding the qualifying exam and category and upload the correct documents in the required formats in the application form. Application forms that are incorrect and/or incomplete in any way will be summarily rejected, and the application will be considered invalid. The admitting institutes will conduct a document verification exercise for each candidate during admission. The admitting institutes have the right to cancel, at any stage, the admission of a candidate per their rules and regulations in practice if it is found that any information provided by the candidate is incorrect or the application is incomplete.
• Candidates may note that the offer of admission made to them during the online seat allocation process is provisional and will be confirmed by the admitting institutes only after the requisite fees are paid, the documents are duly verified, and their formalities are completed. Once the counselling is closed, the entire process of BDes admissions through the UCEED office is considered to be over, and no further changes (viz. changing institute etc.) are permitted.

UCEED Seat Matrix - Gradual increase in Intake Capacity

With every passing year, the seat intake for UCEED has been increasing gradually. For instance, in 2021, the intake was 179 seats. By 2023, this number will have increased to 205 seats. Refer to the table below to check how the UCEED seat intake has changed over the years.

UCEED 2027 Result-sharing Institutes

The result-sharing institutes of UCEED 2027 will not participate in the Joint Admission Process. Instead, they will conduct their counselling at the institute level. The counselling application for the result-sharing institutes will open soon after the UCEED results 2027 are declared. The participating institute will only fill some of the UG seats based on UCEED 2027 scores. However, for the remaining seats, they may use scores from other entrance exams.
