Why solve sample papers of the NIFT Situation Test?

One of the most effective ways to prepare for the NIFT Situation Test is by solving sample and previous years' question papers of NIFT. It is because apart from learning about the paper structure, like what types of questions are asked, marking scheme, and difficulty level, the candidate can benefit in another way. NIFT Entrance Exam is a "two-tiered process for BDes course admission. The aspirant has to first appear in the written exam - CAT (Creative Ability Test) and GAT (General Ability Test). Shortlisted candidates have to next appear in a NIFT Situation Test. Candidates are shortlisted for the Situation Test on the basis of their performance in the written tests (CAT and GAT). The NIFT 2026 scorecard will contain the qualifying status of the candidate. Candidates who qualify the NIFTEE written exams only can appear in the Situation Test.  

To prepare the merit list of NIFT 2026, the weightage given to CAT and GAT exams is 50% and 30%, respectively, and the NIFT Situation Test carries 20% weightage. Every year, the NIFT Situation Test is conducted after the declaration of NIFT results for the written exams.

Situation Test	Details
Situation Test - For UG Design Programmes	Shortlisted candidates for B. Des after NIFT Stage 1 are required to take a NIFT Situation Test. It is a hands-on test to evaluate the candidate’s skills for material handling and innovative ability in a given situation with a given set of materials. No additional material is provided or allowed.
Duration	3 hours
Situation Test Evaluation Parameters	The basis for evaluation of NIFT Situation Test is Space visualization Innovative and creative use of the given material Composition of elements Colour scheme Construction skill Finesse of the model Overall presentation NIFT Situation test model will be checked with a write-up explaining the concept behind the model. Write-up should be in English. No marks will be given for a write-up in any other language.
How will the Situation Test be evaluated?	Candidates should not try to disclose their name. Anyone who tries to disclose their identity by writing personal details or placing any identification mark on the model/design/write-up shall be disqualified. The final result of such candidates shall not be declared. The evaluation of the Situation test will be done on the spot by the jury. The model will not be preserved for future reference.
