70 Marks in CLAT 2027: Expected Rank, NLU Admission Chances

The Common Law Admission Test is expected to be held on December 6, 2026. The Consortium will begin the CLAT Counselling Process 2027 once the results are announced. While the chances of getting the top NLUs are higher if a candidate scores 90+, a score of 70 puts them in a borderline range. CLAT 2027 Exam details will be announced in notification.

However, candidates still have the option to opt for lower NLUs or other private law colleges. Chances for candidates under reserved categories to get NLUs are still high with this score. Candidates must not feel bad if they do not get admission in any of the NLU because many private law colleges accept the CLAT Score. This article provides a complete analysis of expected rank, NLU admission chances, and fee structure for candidates scoring 70 marks in CLAT 2027.

Commonly asked questions
Q:   What is good rank in CLAT exam?
A:

A good rank in the CLAT exam for general category students is under 1,000–1,500 to secure admission in top-tier National Law Universities (NLUs). A rank under 500 is considered excellent for the top 5 NLUs, while a rank up to 3,000–5,000 can still secure a seat in newer, mid-tier NLUs.

Q:   How many times I can appear for CLAT Exam?
A:

There is no restriction as such for the CLAT exam. Thus, one can give CLAT any number of times they want to. Candidates should not feel bad if they are not able to clear the CLAT exam in first time.

Q:   Can I appear for CLAT Counselling if I failed to clear the exam?
A:

No, you can not appear for counselling if you have not cleared CLAT Exam.

Is 70 Marks a Good Score in CLAT?

Aspirants can check the chances of getting NLUs as per the category with a score of 70 or below

Category Chances
General Category Not a competitive score
OBC/EWS Limited chances in lower NLUs
SC/ST Can be considered a decent score
Q&A Icon
Commonly asked questions
Q:   What does CLAT cutoff mean?
A:

The CLAT cutoff means the minimum rank or score required to get admission into a National Law University (NLU). Candidates must get the cutoff to participate in the counselling process.

Q:   What is a bad rank in CLAT?
A:

A bad rank in CLAT is relative and depends on factors like your category, the NLUs you target, and overall competition. For general category candidates, ranks above 15,000 to 20,000 are typically considered weak, reducing chances of admission into top or even mid-tier National Law Universities. For reserved categories, the threshold might be higher, but still, a rank significantly above the cutoff range may be viewed unfavorably. Ultimately, a "bad rank" hampers your chances of securing a coveted seat and may force you to consider alternative law schools or reattempt the exam in subsequent years. Improving your score remains essential.

Q:   What if I exit the CLAT counselling process in first round, Am I allowed to appear in pending rounds?
A:

You should understand that once you opt to get out of the counselling process you can not go back. You will get option to either freeze your seat or choose to let it go and participate in next round. You can anytime exit the whole process too.

No, CLAT is not compulsory to take admission in Ishaan Institute of Law. The institute offers admission into the courses such as LLB, BA LLB and LLM based on the merit achieved by the candidates in their last qualifying exam. Application process is compulsory and it can be conducted online/offline.

You can find it on many platforms, such as Lawprep Tutorial and Shiksha itself, but I'm a Law Prep student, and I found their format of solutions better.

Based on recent CLAT analyses, the English Language and General Knowledge & Current Affairs sections were rated as the easiest. English is more about reading comprehension with direct questions. GK is highly scoring for those with consistent, up-to-date daily news preparation.

Whether SLS Pune is better than an NLU really depends on what you want. SLS Pune gives a strong private college aura, with a good campus, nice location, and a good brand name. Many people think it's ahead of some low-tier NLUs (Tier 2 or Tier 3). But the top NLUs like NLSIU Bengaluru or NLU Delhi st

Many students feel the AILET exam is a bit tougher than CLAT because it has fewer seats and high competition. The AILET syllabus focuses more on reasoning and legal aptitude. Both tests need good preparation, but AILET 2027 usually has a higher cutoff for AILET colleges under NLU Delhi.
