CAT 2020 Highlights

With the announcement of CAT 2020 dates on July 29 many MBA aspirants heaved a sigh of relief that neither any change has been introduced in the test structure nor the exam has been delayed. Yes, IIM Indore will conduct the CAT exam this year in November in order to not disturb the admission cycle of 2021 batch.

CAT 2020 registrations will begin on August 5 and end on September 16. The exam will be conducted on November 29 in two slots – forenoon (9 AM to 12 PM) and afternoon (2 PM to 5 PM). Although the schedule has been announced, there may be change in CAT 2020 dates depending on the COVID-19 situation in India.

CAT 2020 Highlights

CAT 2020 website iimcat.ac.in went live on July 29. Let’s take a look at some highlights of CAT exam this year.

  • CAT application fee has been increased from Rs 1,900 to Rs 2,000 for General category students. For SC/ST/PwD candidates, the fee has been increased from Rs 950 to Rs 1,000.
  • There is no increase in the number of CAT test cities. The exam will be conducted in 156 cities across India like last year.
  • Candidates can select up to four cities as preference for test centres. The test centres will be allotted to candidates after the registration process.
  • Exam slot and centre allotted to candidates will be printed on their CAT admit cards. No request for change of exam centre will be entertained.
  • There has been no change in the exam pattern and syllabus. CAT will be conducted in Computer Based Test mode. The duration of exam will be 180 minutes.
  • The syllabus includes Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC), Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR) and Quantitative Ability.
  • Tutorials to understand the format of the test will be available on the CAT website from October 16, 2020.

CAT Eligibility Criteria

  • The candidate must have completed graduation with minimum 50 per cent aggregate or equivalent from a recognized university (45 per cent aggregate for SC/ST/PwD candidates)
  • Final year graduation candidates are also eligible to apply for CAT 2020
  • Candidates must have professional degrees like CA/CS/ICWA with minimum 50 per cent aggregate (45 per cent aggregate for SC/ST/PwD candidates)

CAT Application Fees

CAT application fee 2020 is Rs 2,000 for General category students and for SC/ST/PwD candidates the fee is Rs 1,000. The fee is to be paid at the time of CAT application submission via credit/debit card or net banking.

Yes. IIMB does require the CAT exam, but the rest of the top B-schools in Bangalore also take in candidates through the state-level CET, ie, the Karnataka PGCET exam, or through MAT or CMAT.

IIM Calcutta has only mentioned accepting GMAT score for admission into EMBA courses.

However, CAT is commonly accepted by other similar institutes for both MBA and MBAEx courses. Thus, candidates are advised to ask admission desk for confirmation on this question.

It is not possible to determine a candidate's admission in IIM Calcutta MBA course through CAT score alone. In Stage 1, a score 85% in CAT will be enough for a general category candidate to be selected for PI+WAT admission stage.

Final admission cutoffs are based on many factors other than CAT score.

No, IIM Calcutta cannot get into MBA courses without appearing CAT first. CAT is a mandatory entrance exam and it is conducted every year for admissions into all MBA courses offered by this institute.
