“Shoot for the moon even if you miss you’ll land among the stars.”
Having higher expectations is surely worthy but often we fail to meet them. However, the best part about MAT is that you don’t have to wait for a year around for the next attempt. MAT is conducted every three months, four times a year.
So, if you score low in the recent attempt, then you attempt again in three months. Here’s what you could do before you begin preparing for the next attempt:
- Take a break: This is not the time to break down or lose hope. Give yourself some time and relax your mind. A relaxed mind is the only way to strategise effectively for the next attempt that will be conducted in three months.
- Analyse: Analyse the mistakes that you have done and it will be better if you note them down, follow the questions and work on it and make sure not to repeat the mistakes again. If you keep on repeating the same mistakes then you will never move forward and get results as expected.
- Work on mistakes: Once you have analysed your mistakes now you should work on it. Invest more time on the topics in which you are weak. This way you feel more confident while solving the problem during your next attempt.
- Polish your strength: Along with the mistakes you should be aware of your strengths, too. Don’t be reluctant about it, keep on practicing the topics where you have a good grasp as well or else it will affect you percentile again. Maintain a balance while practicing the topics you are weak and the topics you already know.
- Time management: Time management while practicing plays a key role. And as you have already appeared for the test once, now you have a better idea about time issues while exam. For scoring better this time you have to do everything better than last time. Proper management of time makes you work smart, too.
- Mock tests: Practice more mock tests than your last attempt. Set a time limit while solving the tests. Be honest with yourself while assessment. A group of friends together can also practice the same set of questions later check each other’s paper and have a productive discussion. It will make the preparation interesting and gain more knowledge by sharing with your group.
- Good campus knowledge: A sound knowledge about the universities accepting MAT percentile is important to know the universities you are eligible for. Different universities accept students with a wide percentile range. I have attached some list of universities and the percentile eligibility. You will get some idea about the university to precede your further research. This can also help you to decide either to go for another attempt of yo have performed enough to get the university of your choice.

MAT is overall an easy exam, but if you compare the sections, usually the Quantitative Aptitude is considered tougher than rest of the four sections, due to calculation intensive questions.
