How to Crack NEET 2026 in First Attempt?

Check the NEET preparation tips 2026 to know how to study the complete syllabus, what to practice for the exam and what should be the strategy to clear NEET 2026 exam on first attempt.

Cover the syllabus & know chapter-wise weightage

While starting the preparation, it is important to know the NEET syllabus 2026 properly, along with the weightages of subject-wise topics. For this, it is important to undergo NEET analysis of the last year or previous years. Knowing the NEET Chapter-wise Weightage helps students in chalking out a plan on which topics to prepare for and which topics can be safely left out. Since the syllabus of NEET is quite vast, it is not possible for an aspirant to cover each and every topic. With the help of the analysis, students can easily estimate which are the important chapters that need to be prepared thoroughly.

Get the right books and study materials

There is no dearth of NEET books and study materials in the market. But hoarding all those books would be nothing but an example of the common proverb: too many cooks spoil the broth. Studying all the books on NEET preparation would only lead to information cramming and chaos. Ideally, students should first focus on completing their school textbooks and NCERT books, as those are in tune with the NEET syllabus and question types. Apart from that, aspirants should study from their coaching institute's books and modules. After that, if they are left with enough bandwidth, then they can refer to the other books for NEET preparation.

Prepare a systematic study plan

Prepare a timetable dedicating appropriate time to each subject for NEET preparation. This will be useful for students who have to give the board exam as well. Ideally, students should spend six to eight hours preparing for NEET. Within this duration, candidates must focus on three aspects – learning, revision and practice. It is important to work according to the timetable so that you can crack NEET exam in first attempt.

Assess your strengths and weaknesses

After completing the basic preparation, candidates must be aware of their strengths and weaknesses. It is also a critical aspect of preparation to keep one’s strengths and weaknesses in check. If any of the weak areas carry low weightage in the exam, then those topics can be safely eliminated. But if a weak area carries a high weightage then students should ensure that they dedicate more time to the weak areas and understand the reason. Improving weak areas depend on two factors, conceptual understanding and regular practice. With a combination of both, they should be able to improve their weaknesses. At the same time, aspirants should also revise their strong areas also so that they do not lose touch with the topics they are comfortable and confident in.

Prepare a test-taking strategy

Students start testing their knowledge by taking regular mock test. Start your practice with the strongest subject followed by weak subjects to get better at solving question papers. This will help you to manage time and answer properly on OMR sheet.

Proper time management

NEET is a time-bound exam where candidates have to attempt 180 questions in three hours. Without having a proper time management plan in time may be disastrous on the day of the exam. Hence, along with preparing a test-taking strategy, they should also focus on time management. Unless they plan a strategy to manage these three hours, test-takers may end up losing precious minutes and hamper their performance. According to experts, candidates should not spend more than two minutes on a question and in case they find it more time-consuming, they should leave it and move ahead. In case they have time, in the end, they should revisit the question and try to solve it. They should also leave some room for revision, as there are chances of silly mistakes which can mar their performance.

Focus on health and fitness

Candidates should exercise to maintain their physical fitness to keep themselves healthy. Do not take too much stress to maintain your mental health.

How to Clear NEET 2026 in First Attempt: Practice Papers & Mock Tests

The only way that candidates can know the NEET paper structure and level is by practicing more. Candidates should try to solve as many mock tests and NEET PYQs as possible to score well in the exam. Have a look at some tips below-

Take ample mock tests

After completing the basic preparation, candidates should start taking NEET mock tests. After completing each section or subject, they should take sectional mock tests. No, there's no backdoor here. Candidates willing to get admitted to undergraduate dental courses need to qualify the NEET exam, which is the national entrance test for BDS admission. Whether you're applying to a government or a top private college, NEET is non-negotiable.
