The Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IITK) and the Kuppam Area Development Authority (KADA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to transform Kuppam, the constituency of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandra Babu Naidu, into India’s first Net Zero constituency. This collaboration aims to promote sustainability and support the achievement of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by targeting Net Zero emissions, water, and waste in the region.

In this collaboration, IIT Kanpur will act as the technology and knowledge partner for KADA, utilizing its expertise to support Kuppam’s sustainability goals. The initiative will integrate advanced technical solutions, including renewable energy adoption, energy-efficient systems, and sustainable waste management, alongside community-driven efforts to promote sustainability. A key focus will also be improving water management practices to achieve Net Zero water.

A key component of the project is the active involvement of IIT Kanpur’s team in Kuppam, working closely with local administration, schools, and colleges to incorporate sustainability principles into education. This collaboration will empower students and faculty to play a hands-on role in achieving Net Zero targets while deepening the community's understanding of sustainability.

The MoU was signed by Prof. Pratik Sen, Dean of Students' Affairs at IIT Kanpur, and Vikas Marmat, Project Director at KADA. The initiative will be spearheaded by the Kotak School of Sustainability at IIT Kanpur, with Dr. Rajeev Jindal and Dr. Manoj K. Tiwari serving as the Principal Investigators overseeing the project.

This initiative highlights how shared expertise and a unified vision can drive scalable and impactful solutions, setting a benchmark for sustainable development across the country."

Under the 'Management Category', NIRF ranked IIT Kanpur at 23rd position in 2023 rankings. Business Today also ranked IIT Kanpur at 32 position. Talking about placements, IIT Kanpur highest package recorded for MBA was INR 24 LPA. The median CTC was INR 17.25 LPA.

In Summer Placement (2022-24), the highest stipend offered to students was INR 17.01 lakh whereas, median stipend was INR 1 lakh.
