IIT Kanpur Organises Special Educational Tour
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur organised an educational tour for students from 15 government and government-aided secondary schools in Kanpur Dehat. Hosted by Ranjit Singh Rozi Shiksha Kendra in collaboration with the Department of SPASE and the Indian National Science Academy (INSA - Kanpur Local Chapter), the initiative aimed to ignite scientific curiosity and raise awareness among young minds. During the event, Prof. Sudhanshu S. Singh from Rozi Shiksha Kendra emphasized IIT Kanpur's commitment to enhancing rural education through dedicated outreach programs.
As part of the program, Dr. Tejpreet Kaur, an Institute Post-Doctoral Fellow, led an interactive session on the solar system, where students actively participated in a hands-on demonstration of crater formation. The session also covered galaxy classification and deep-space exploration, focusing on the Voyager 1 and 2 missions. Students were highly engaged, participating in a lively Q&A discussion throughout the session.
Enhancing the experience, Prof. Bushra Ateeq delivered an insightful session on genetic coding and the molecular foundations of life. She explained how genetic mutations, environmental factors, and lifestyle choices play a role in the development of cancer. Her talk offered students a deeper understanding of cellular mutations and the far-reaching implications of genetic research.
Students also had the chance to visit IIT Kanpur’s cutting-edge research laboratories, where they explored advanced scientific equipment, such as high-resolution microscopes. They engaged with researchers and scientists, gaining valuable first-hand experience in the fields of scientific exploration and innovation. The visit emphasises IIT Kanpur’s dedication to promoting science education at the grassroots level, inspiring the next generation of innovators and researchers.
