IIT Madras Signs MoUs to Introduce Career-Centric Courses on SWAYAM Plus
IIT Madras has collaborated with industry and educational institutions to introduce career-centric courses on the SWAYAM Plus platform, aimed at enhancing employability.
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has partnered with industry and higher education institutions to offer employability-focused courses on the SWAYAM Plus platform. As part of this initiative, participating institutions will collaborate with SWAYAM Plus to encourage students to integrate these industry-relevant courses into their academic curriculum. In the initial phase, over 2,500 learners are expected to enroll in SWAYAM Plus courses in the coming weeks. The platform also aims to onboard more institutions, with a target of enrolling over 10,000 students who will pursue these courses for academic credits.
The MoUs were signed during the IInvenTiv 2025 event at IIT Madras in the presence of Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, MoS for Education, and IIT Madras officials. The agreements with Veranda Learning Solutions and NSE Academy aim to offer employability-focused courses on SWAYAM Plus, enhancing students' job prospects with industry-relevant skills.
Highlighting the importance of this collaboration, Prof. R. Sarathi, Dean (Planning), IIT Madras & SWAYAM Plus Coordinator, IIT Madras, said, “The objective of these MoUs is to encourage higher education institutions to embed SWAYAM Plus courses into their semester schedules. Institutions will conduct proctored exams and award academic credits to students upon completing these courses and their assessments.”
Integrating SWAYAM Plus Courses To Curriculum
The collaborations with higher education institutions will enable them to integrate SWAYAM Plus courses into their curriculum, with SWAYAM Plus providing support for course implementation, assessments, and certification. MoUs were signed with Sathyabama University, Thiagarajar College of Arts, Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Sri Venkateswara University, and Vinayaka Mission’s Law School.
Industry partners will provide courses designed to develop industry-specific skills and enhance employability. These courses will be available on SWAYAM Plus, offering learners practical and career-relevant knowledge. After approval from IIT Madras' Programme Implementation Committee, the courses will be onboarded onto the platform. The initiative aims to gradually expand student enrolment, increase adoption across higher education institutions, and ultimately establish SWAYAM Plus as a primary platform for industry-relevant courses with academic credits at both state and national levels.
