The National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued the official dress code for the exam that all candidates have to follow on the exam day. Check complete details on what to wear and what to avoid ahead of the JEE Mains April attempt.

JEE Main 2026 Dress Code for Males and Females

JEE Main 2026 Dress code: To ensure a smooth experience at the exam centre, both male and female candidates must adhere to the JEE Mains dress code and the exam day instructions. NTA has laid out the JEE Main 2026 dress code and guidelines. Students can refer to the NTA dress code for the April session exam on this page.

The dress code for JEE Main 2026 prohibits shoes with thick soles and clothing featuring large buttons. Additionally, Sikh candidates are permitted to wear traditional or religious items such as a Kara or Kirpan. JEE Main 2026 second session is scheduled for April 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8. JEE Mains 2026 Dress Code

Check below the JEE Mains dress code for both male and female candidates. Note that NTA does not mention any specific dress code for male and female students separately. However, based on the feedback of students at the exam centre, we have compiled here some common dress code-related guidelines that are ideal for the JEE Mains exam day. Students must follow the dress code to ensure that there are no issues during frisking and security checks.

The following table lays out the specific guidelines for JEE Main 2026 dress code for females.  The female candidates have to look out for the following:

What to Avoid

Opt for simple tops with light-weight fabric.

Try to avoid the following kinds of clothing at the JEE centres:

Plain jeans (without metallic studs or chains), simple trousers, or leggings/jeggings are allowed.

Do not wear clothes with metallic zippers, large decorative buttons, or metal-threaded embroidery.

Choose garments made of lightweight fabrics

Caps, hats, stoles, and scarves should be avoided inside the centre. Follow the instructions by the centre invigilators.

Wear simple slippers or open flat sandals.

Strictly avoid all jewellery, including rings, bracelets, watches (digital or analogue) and neck chains

 

Avoid underwired bras, as they might cause problems during frisking

Q:   Is it enough to learn from NCERT textbook to clear JEE Main?

While NCERT books are good to begin the JEE Mains preparation, students should not study only NCERT. As JEE Mains exam is known to test candidates conceptual and analytical skills, and to have all the knowledge that would help in achieving a good score, candidates must also refer other study materials as recommended by teachers to prepae for the exam.

Q:   Is it mandatory to carry printout of JEE Main hall ticket to the exam centre?

Yes, it is mandatory to carry a print copy of the JEE Mains admit card. Soft copy on the mobile phone is not valid for entry at exam.

Q:   Is it mandatory to carry colour printout of JEE Main admit card?

No. It is not mandatory to carry a colour printout of the JEE Main admit card. Candidates can carry a black and white printout; just make sure that all details are clear. Check the clarity of the photo, QR code, Bar Code and other details after the printout and ensure that everything is readable.

Q:   Can I wear a hijab in JEE Mains?
A: 

Yes, you can wear a hijab in the JEE Mains exam as it is considered a religious item. However, you will likely undergo enhanced security checks at the exam centre.

You should arrive early to complete this frisking process. Make sure to keep your face visible for identification.

  • Ensure you reach the JEE Main test centre at least an hour before the reporting time mentioned in your JEE Main 2026 admit card. Candidates have to undergo various mandatory processes, thus reaching on time is important.
  • Write your name and roll number at the top of the rough sheets and return them before leaving the exam hall.
  • Enter your required details in the attendance sheet in legible handwriting, put your signature, Left Hand Thumb Impression and paste the Photograph at the appropriate place. The Left-Hand Thumb Impression is clear and not smudged.
  • Do not carry any prohibited items such as notes, electronics, calculators and more.

Special Instructions for Diabetic Students

NTA allows diabetic students to carry certain medicines and edible items into the exam hall. These items include fruits like (bananas, apples, and oranges), sugar tablets, and a transparent water bottle. Though students have to inform the invigilators of the same before starting with the test.
