To appear for the Manipur HSLC exam, a student must be passed in Manipur class 9 exams from a recognised school. The student must have the minimum required percentage in class attendence. Apart from this, the students must be enrolled in class 10 exams in a school recognised by BSEM. Schools are responsible to check eligibility of student. 

To pass the Manipur HSLC exam, every student must score at least 30% in each subject. This includes both theory and Internal assessment exam marks. If a student fails in a maximum of two subjects, they can appear for the Manipur HSLC compartmental exams. On the other hand, the students who fail in more than two subjects will have to appear for the Manipur HSLC exams next year.

The Manipur Board follow a standard exam pattern in class 10. In Manipur HSLC exams, both objective and subjective type questions are asked. Each paper is of 100 marks (including internal assesment exam in a few paper). The students are given 3 hours in each paper to write the exam. The exams are held in offline mode (pen and paper).
