IIT Bombay admits students to its many programmes based on national-level entrance examination ranks, centralised counsellings, or direct departmental evaluations. Candidates must meet the eligibility crietria established for their chosen programme.
Selection Process by Programme
- BTech / BS / Dual Degree: Based on JEE Advanced rank, followed by centralised seat allocation through JoSAA / CSAB counselling.
- BDes: Based on rank secured in the UCEED examination.
- MTech: Based on GATE scores through the COAP portal. Specific departments may also conduct an additional written test or interview.
- MBA: Based on CAT marks, followed by a personal interview round conducted by SJMSOM, IIT Bombay.

IIT Bombay MTech Admission 2026
IIT Bombay offers a two-year MTech programme spread across four semesters. The course is offered for a duration of two years in 39 specialisations under 18 departments. Admission to the course is entrance-based. The technology institute accepts scores of the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). Candidates who further get shortlisted need to take part in COAP counselling. Aspirants must complete a bachelor's degree with a minimum of 60% aggregate (55% aggregate for SC/ ST/ PwD category) to apply for MTech. IIT Bombay offers an MDes course for a duration of two years spread across four semesters. Yes, IIT Bombay conducts Common Entrance Exam for Design or CEED for admission to MDes programme. It is a national-level entrance exam conducted in online mode. It is a three-hour exam conducted once in a year. Candidates shortlisted based on CEED rank have to also appear for IDC written test conducted by the institute. The shortlisted aspirants are further require to come for an interview round for final selection.
The total tuition fee for IIT Bombay MDes is INR 2.7 Lacs as per an unofficial source. Students belonging to SC/ ST/ PwD category or a child of institution staff are exempted from paying the tuition fee. There is a concessional and a non-concessional fee for candidates belonging to General/ EWS/ OBC-NCL category. The concessional is offered on tuition fee. Candidates apart from the tuition fee are required to pay examination fee, medical fee, etc. Students not staying in hostel are exempted from the payment of hostel fee.

IIT Bombay admission to MDes programme is entrance-based. Candidates have to follow the below steps to get a seat in the MDes programme:
Step 1: Candidates meeting the eligibility requirements have to pay an application fee to register for MDes course.
Step 2: IIT Bombay selects candidates for MDes programme based on CEED score. After qualifying CEED, the institute releases a category-wise merit list for each stream. Eligible candidates are required to appear for an IDC (written test) and an interview round.
Step 3: After the completion of the selection rounds, IITB releases a final merit list. Selected candidates will then have to appear for the verification of documents in order to complete the admission.

IIT Bombay admission to BDes course includes various steps. Starting with registration to entrance exam, counselling and seat allotment. Before jumping to application, candidates must also check their eligibility. Any candidate who have completed Class 12 can apply for BDes course.

IIT Bombay MBA is a two-year course spread across eight terms. In the first year, students acquire knowledge on all the disciplines of management through 23 rigorous courses. All the academic courses need case studies, course projects and research by students, which provide exposure to the latest practices in the Industry. Students have the option of doing a one-month winter project at the end of first two terms.
The rigor of the academics in the first year culminates in the summer project at the end of the first year of the course.
