IIT Bombay MDes Admission 2026
IIT Bombay offers an MDes course for a duration of two years spread across four semesters. The institute offers MDes through the Industrial Design Centre in Industrial Design, Visual Communication, Animation, Mobility & Vehicle Design and Interaction Design. In general, the first two semesters in the first year comprise theory courses and learning/ instruction oriented projects, while the second year is more or less spent on design projects. Candidates who have completed graduation with at least 55% aggregate (50% aggregate for SC/ ST/ PwD) or equivalent grades can apply for MDes.

Yes, IIT Bombay conducts Common Entrance Exam for Design or CEED for admission to MDes programme. It is a national-level entrance exam conducted in online mode. It is a three-hour exam conducted once in a year. Candidates shortlisted based on CEED rank have to also appear for IDC written test conducted by the institute. The shortlisted aspirants are further require to come for an interview round for final selection.
The total tuition fee for IIT Bombay MDes is INR 2.7 Lacs as per an unofficial source. Students belonging to SC/ ST/ PwD category or a child of institution staff are exempted from paying the tuition fee. There is a concessional and a non-concessional fee for candidates belonging to General/ EWS/ OBC-NCL category. The concessional is offered on tuition fee. Candidates apart from the tuition fee are required to pay examination fee, medical fee, etc. Students not staying in hostel are exempted from the payment of hostel fee.
Apart from the course fee, candidates also have to pay a registration fee of INR 300 for General/ OBC Male and INR 150 for SC/ ST/ PwD and female candidates.
IIT Bombay admission to MDes programme is entrance-based. Candidates have to follow the below steps to get a seat in the MDes programme:
Step 1: Candidates meeting the eligibility requirements have to pay an application fee to register for MDes course.
Step 2: IIT Bombay selects candidates for MDes programme based on CEED score. After qualifying CEED, the institute releases a category-wise merit list for each stream. Eligible candidates are required to appear for an IDC (written test) and an interview round.
Step 3: After the completion of the selection rounds, IITB releases a final merit list. Selected candidates will then have to appear for the verification of documents in order to complete the admission.
IIT Bombay JAM cutoff 2026 for the OBC category ranged from 65 in the first round to 1217 in the last round. IIT Bombay admission to BDes course includes various steps. Starting with registration to entrance exam, counselling and seat allotment. Before jumping to application, candidates must also check their eligibility. Any candidate who have completed Class 12 can apply for BDes course.
Step 1: Registration
Candidates need to apply online for BDes course with an application fee of INR 3,800 for open and INR 1,900 for reserved category. The common application form will be available through the IIT Bombay Admissions Portal.
Step 2: Selection
The selection to BDes course is based on UCEED rank. A merit list is prepared based on UCEED rank of the candidates.
Step 3: Counselling
Once shortlisted, candidates need to register for counselling. The seat are alloted based on the UCEED rank of the candidates. Aspirants must pay the fee to confirm their seat in the institute.

IIT Bombay Scholarships 2026
IIT Bombay offers a variety of financial support programmes for undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG), and doctoral (PhD) students. The institute provides internal benefits such as fee waivers, mess subsidies, and teaching/research assistantships. It also accepts and verifies major central and state government scholarships through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). 1. Free Messing Facility
Eligible SC and ST category students receive free mess charges along with exemptions from tuition fees. This benefit is available for both UG and MSc programs.
2. Institute Merit-cum-Means (MCM) Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to students based on both academic merit and family income. Eligible students generally have income of up to INR 5 Lakh per annum. A MCM scheme is also available for MSc students within the INR 1 Lakh to 5 Lakh annual income range.
3. Fees Waiver

Candidates who wish to get into BTech have to qualify JEE Main followed by JEE Advanced. IIT Bombay MBA is a two-year course spread across eight terms. In the first year, students acquire knowledge on all the disciplines of management through 23 rigorous courses. All the academic courses need case studies, course projects and research by students, which provide exposure to the latest practices in the Industry. Students have the option of doing a one-month winter project at the end of first two terms.
The rigor of the academics in the first year culminates in the summer project at the end of the first year of the course.
