Overall, it is an excellent college for greater opportunities.

Placements: The percentage of students that get placements is about 50%. The highest package is 1.2 crore per annum. The percentage of students who got internships is quite decent, and about 80%. The course in this college is good, so most of them get placed in top-rated companies within their course duration.

Infrastructure: The infrastructure is quite nice. Hostel facilities are luxurious. Almost all kinds of sports are available at any time. Students have a nice campus life for 4 years. People find it memorable in this isolated place. The library is peaceful for reference materials.

Faculty: The number of faculty members available is quite high, but students find it difficult to find a suitable one. It depends on the mentality of the student's academic preference. Teachers would help their students at any time. Students feel helpful with this.

Other: The campus is hugely crowded. Events happening here are actually engaging. Students enjoy their free time at almost every spot inside the campus.

VIT is a college you must definitely choose.

Placements: A decent number of students get placed. The highest package was more than 1 crore, and the average was 8-8.5 lacs per annum. If you have a decent CGPA, then you need not worry. You'll land a nice package somewhere. Otherwise, the mass recruitment programs are to the rescue.

Infrastructure: Unlimited Wi-Fi is available throughout the campus. Labs are fully air-conditioned and equipped with the latest tools and software; whatever you might need will be there. Classrooms are huge and spacious with a decent number of students in the class. And the food is average, I would say.

Faculty: Teachers are very helpful and knowledgeable, though you might face difficulties due to the southern accent of some teachers, but overall it's awesome. The course is very much relevant, and as for the exams, they are tough. Not too tough but still not everybody's cup of tea.

Love-hate relationship with VIT.

Placements: In our course, almost all of our students were placed. The highest package was 50 LPA, while the lowest was 3 LPA. The top recruitment company was TCS, as far as I believe. Around 40% of the students got internships from our course, and the top roles offered were managerial positions, as far as I have heard.

Infrastructure: The facilities given are pretty standard but are neglected due to poor management. Wi-Fi has restricted times, where we can't use it after 12 AM until 7 AM. The mess food isn’t good, and lots of students have fallen sick because of it. The library is pretty decent, containing books for every request. Sports facilities are also great.

Faculty: Teachers are indeed helpful, qualified, and knowledgeable, and the teaching quality is decent. The course curriculum is surprisingly relevant and makes the students industry-ready. The difficulty of the semester exams varies from student to student, but for me, it has been easy so far. The pass percentage is 50% overall, and 40/100 marks are required in the final exam.

Other: Mechanical engineering is the course I chose because I like to be practical with things. I love roots and want to create them more advanced than ever. The crowd is really bad; there are lots of students here. I promise you that if the student intake is less, they will be better than a lot of NITs.

Great infrastructure and facilities but somewhat crowded, though.

Placements: The highest package for 2024 was 88 Lacs per annum, the average package was 9.9 Lacs per annum. The top recruiting companies were Amazon, Microsoft, PayPal, and Cisco. 70-80% of students got internships in companies like Intel, Qualcomm, Nokia, Titan, and PayPal.

Infrastructure: All the necessary things are available in the hostel. The Wi-Fi works till 12:30 AM every day. Classrooms are also well-maintained, and the library contains so many books on every topic and genre. Labs are well-maintained too, with different software and applications, so you don't have to buy one. Food in the mess is quite decent with a lot of variety. Canteens are too good in taste, and you get every type of food. There are almost facilities for every sport, which are also well-maintained.

Faculty: Teachers are well-experienced and well-qualified. Some teachers are not up to the mark, but many others are. The curriculum is also good and is according to the changing technology, making students industry-ready. The semester exams, honestly, aren't that hard if you start studying at the proper time. The passing criteria are to get above 40 marks in the final assessment.

Other: Choosing mechanical in such a college is very much helpful as you get exposure to every tech and machinery in this Industry 4.0 to make you ready. There are majorly 2 fests every year, i.e., River and Gravitas (the tech fest). The place really feels somewhat crowded, though, but also helps in connectivity sometimes. The campus is so huge and filled with greenery all around. Also, there are so many other extracurricular activities happening every now and then.

Ups and downs of VIT Vellore.

Placements: About 25% of students in mechanical engineering from the 2025 batch have been placed till now. Placements for CSE are much better with a higher percentage of people placed. In the mechanical department, about 50% of students got placed till now in the 2025 batch.

Infrastructure: The infrastructure is excellent. Great labs and classrooms. Some of the newer hostels are great. While the holder one might not look so good from outside, it's still good. 24/7 Medical services are available. Sports facilities are good, but due to the crowd, access to these facilities can be a little tough. We have an excellent library. Wi-Fi is also decent. In some hostels, it works a lot better while in some it's a little worse.

Faculty: Some are great faculty members. They can help us take our careers to the next level. Overall curriculum is great, with ample focus on training students for placements as well as life after college. Semester exams can be easy if you can focus properly.

Other: For the mechanical engineering department, there are a lot of technical teams to help you learn about concepts which college doesn't teach you. It helps us get accustomed to our industry and helps a lot in networking with some of the top companies. VIT is an excellent college, but the only lacking part is the overwhelming crowd. Everywhere you go, We will always find 50 more people. This increases competition by a lot in an already declining industry. Techfest is great. There is some discrimination for the non-South Indian people.

You may get mechanical core in 1 category but that's not sure but if not in 1 then definitely you will get it in category 2 In VIT Vellore, you can get it in category 1 in VIT Chennai.

Yes, there is a provision of lateral entry in which most students either Diploma students or other students from other colleges can join. It is a very normal process for taking admission in 2nd year.

At my admission time, there was only Vellore and Chennai branch two years ago and these branches are recently opened by VIT. Let me explain you the admission system here. Rank in VIT to get admission should be 90,000. So, you can get admission in VIT from the 6th category as well. There are various

What is the minimum rank that I need to get in VITEEE'18 for getting mechanical in Vellore or Chennai?

Mechanical branch in VIT, Vellore gets filled by a rank of around 10k. In VIT, Chennai it's available till a rank of around 15k. Marks around 90 for Vellore and 75 for Chennai. P.S- It is based on my experience during counselling.
