Q:   Is SRM University good for B.Tech?
A:

Here are some positive and negative points of SRM University:

Positive:

  1. Located in Chennai which is a metropolitan city. Three out of five campuses are located in Chennai
  2. You can have a lot of fun
  3. In KTR, there are a lot of opportunities provided to students to develop their profile like hundreds of clubs, teams like robocon, conrods, camber, and 4ze where students can build their own bots, cars and stuff. If you are really interested in your field then you can do anything in SRM
  4. Canteen facilities are excellent
  5. As far as placements are concerned, most students are placed in IT sector. Core companies also visit the campus but they select only one or two students. In a batch of 500600 students i.e. 1520 students are placed in core companies. But still that depends on your skills and we can’t blame the university for that.

Negative:

  1. The student to faculty ratio is too high.
  2. Faculty members are not very highly skilled, though they are postgraduates in their respective field. Most of them have completed M.Tech from other local colleges. There are very few from IITs and foreign universities.
  3. The curriculum is old.
  4. The evaluation system is also not very good.
  5. Very little research happens here. Most of the faculty members don’t have any publications
  6. Also, if you have a lot of money you can join in management quota into any branch you want. Almost half of the students have joined in management quota.

All the best.

SRM B.Tech-25 - The transition point.
Placements: Companies like Amazon, JP Morgen, Wipro, Cognizant, and TCS appear to recruit students and offer various range of packages for roles such as analyst, product development, product manager, web development, etc. An average package of 6 LPA can be expected with the lowest package being around 3 LPA. This year the highest package is 52 LPA in CS department. Mass recruiters take up around 400-800 students at a time for small offers ranging between 3 LPA - 7 LPA. Nanotechnology has no core-related companies but can try in the IT sector if interested.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is thorough and provides various facilities such as Wi-Fi, clean rooms, periodic cleaning, and ventilated classrooms. There are various options concerning the rooms with AC and non-AC setup, also attached and common washrooms. There is a hospital on the campus. Mess food is tolerable with the same menu every week. The sports facilities are good but overcrowded. Various sports events are organised throughout the year.
Faculty: All teaching staff are Ph.D. holders in their respective disciplines of their subjects and can be approached during college hours. Classes occur mainly through PPT presentation and the curriculum is revised every 4 years. Various Ph.D. talks are organised which are helpful. Exams are decent with 50% for passing.
Other: I took this course due to the scope it has in the upcoming years, and I am interested in research. The discipline and work ethic to be followed can be learned in the practical classes. The connections with professors can be built. It would have been better if there were more practical subjects to outweigh theory. The cultural events are celebrated separately for engineering, medical, architecture, and management. Engineering has Milan fest which is considered one of the top 10 cultural fests in India.

It is the only college that offers B.Tech in nanotechnology.
Placements: This course is based on research, and mostly those who have studied in our batch have chosen to do their masters abroad. Students got an internship in the Indian Institute of technology, DRDO and SRM Research Institute. Students who have finished their masters have been given the role of nanotechnology researchers and engineers.
Infrastructure: SRMIST has a huge university library with both digital and non-digital books. There is a Wi-Fi connection, and we can assess it using our registration number and login password given by the institute. Lab facilities, especially for the nanotechnology department, is easily accessible by the students, and no fee is required to perform experiments. Lab technicians with years of experience are always available for our help during the experimental and characterisation process.
Faculty: Faculty members in our college are well-qualified with good subject knowledge. Faculty members are helping us academically. The semester exams are easy except for some subjects, which requires a bit of extra effort. The syllabus is updated to the current industrial innovation and requirements. The past percentage is 98%.
Other: I have chosen this course because I was interested in research. The best thing about this course is it involves both theoretical and experimental findings, which makes it really interesting. The course is multi-level application based. The institute organises a lot of events and fests throughout the year, which makes it a wonderful and healthy environment. Scholarships are available for students. There is a shuttle service which is available to access the college from the main road and vice versa.

Absolutely satisfied because of world class research facilities & research faculty. Good exposure.
Placements: Poor placement cause only Bachelor's degree is not sufficient for job placement. Good research faculty and facilities. Though we can get good Masters and Ph.D. position after the course in top colleges abroad. After Masters/PhD good job opportunity around the world .
Infrastructure: Top notch facilities such as Wi-Fi, library, classroom and labs. Quality of food in the mess is not good. Decent services in medical and sports facilities. The hospital available is cheap and sports facilities such as tennis, football, cricket are there.
Faculty: The teachers were from the best college abroad. All have done PhD from abroad. The research faculty is good. Lots of exposure from them about research and very helping. The course curriculum is quite wide, gives the knowledge in various domains within nanotechnology. It is enough to get a basic idea in those fields. But you can choose what research you would like to do.

Amazing research facility, one of the best in India for Nanotechnology.
Placements: There's no placement for Nanotechnology at all, students generally go for higher studies and research. A few students still sit for placements and get jobs in the IT sector under mass recruitment from companies like TCS, etc. But it's useless after spending so much money on this course.
Infrastructure: Labs are really hi-tech, major characterisation tools like XRD, UC-Vis, AFM, SEM, TEM, etc. are available. Students from all over the city send their samples for characterisation too at a cost, but for our department students, it's free. Major focus is on research. Hostels are the same for all departments which aren't very good. AC hostels are extremely expensive and not worth every penny.
Faculty: The faculty is well trained and has good research experience but the course for our batch wasn't well-set. Later after several suggestions, it has now been modified for the new batch and is really good. The lab work is good too although it did need improvement which has been done for the next batch.
Other: There's something or the other going on in the campus all the time, one can learn not just knowledge about their course but also live their life.

A review on SRM Institute of Science and Technology (Nanotechology).
Placements: As we know that nanotechnology is a very new field with the vast area yet to explore, so we can say that the placements percentage for this course is very low. Basically, it's a research-based course, and people who are thinking of taking up jobs after their B.Tech will be slightly disappointed with it as without an M.Tech or PhD, there is very less scope of finding a well-payed job. As maximum companies that come to SRM Institute are IT based, those students at the end who are well versed in coding and technical things have a chance for placement or else, higher studies is the only option for a nanotechology student.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure provided by SRM Institute is state of the art and has all the latest equipment that a student can ask for. There are separate labs for synthesis and characterization of various material and has a separate research institute facility for PhD and research scholars also. The college provides students with a library boasting about 10,000+ books and a vast digital library for an engineering student to study and increase their knowledge. They have a wonderful auditorium and multiple canteen facilities. Sports are also given a priority as it has 3 football grounds and various sports facilities. So overall, it is very well funded infrastructure, and you will not be dissatisfied.
Faculty: SRM Institute boasts of great quality faculty with many Indian and international professors. Most of the teaching faculty graduate of well-known colleges like IITs, NITs, etc. Many of them also have their higher education done from various international institute. The teaching part is great, they provide us with various study material like notes, presentation, etc. To make the class more interactive, the usage of digital media like projectors can also be seen. The students without any problem can easily clear his or her doubts. The curriculum is student-friendly as well as has the international exposure for improving students future prospects and knowledge.
Other: SRM Institute also focuses on the extracurricular activities for students organising various events and fests. It consists of many teams and clubs for various domains, and a student can easily increase their skill and interests joining them. The campus has a good mixture of local and foreign students giving exposure to various cultures. SRM gives a great opportunity to students by providing them semester abroad programme on which a student can spend his one semester in any of the international university which can be MIT, Harvard, Shizuka University, etc. So, with studies, it also focuses on various aspects which develop a student fully.
