- Category B: This is a two-discipline/ department programme where the bachelor’s degree is in the parent discipline/ department and the master’s degree is in a different discipline/ department. For admission to the IIT Kanpur BTech programme, qualifying JEE Main is mandatory to become eligible for JEE Advanced. Only candidates who clear JEE Advanced can be considered for BTech admission at IIT Kanpur through JoSAA counselling.

IIT Kanpur BTech Admission Dates 2026
For IIT Kanpur BTech admission, students need to follow the national entrance exam schedule in early 2026. The JEE Main 2026 exam will be held in two sessions. Session 1 from January 21 to 30, 2026 and Session 2 from April 2 to 9, 2026. Registration and application deadlines are in late 2025. Candidates who qualify in JEE Main are eligible to register for JEE Advanced 2026, with registrations typically open in April 23 to May 2, 2026, and the JEE Advanced exam scheduled on May 17, 2026. In this year placement drive, IIT Kanpur had a historic placement performance with record 672 job offers on first day. This shows strong industry demand for its BTech graduates and continued participation from over 250 companies.
IIT Kanpur has not released course-wise placements information so far for 2022-23 Phase-I placements (which got over in December). According to media reports, phase 1 of the placement session 2022-23 concluded with 1,200 job offers received from over 250 companies.
