Will I Get IIT / IIIT or NIT After 70-80 Percentile in JEE Main?
A lot of students have this question in their mind, however, one simple answer to resolve this query is - Getting into an IIT is not possible with this percentile, as you must first qualify for JEE Advanced, which typically requires a 90+ percentile for General category students.
However, there’s a silver lining. Though you can’t get an IIT, students still stand a chance to get into NITs and IIITs with a 70-80 percentile. However it is unlikely for General category candidates, as the percentile is generally high, may be around 95+ for general candidate although there are some exceptions -
- If you belong to SC, ST, or PwD categories, you have a very strong chance of getting into several NITs and IIITs with a 70-80 percentile
- Students from specific regions like North East (e.g., NIT Mizoram, NIT Nagaland) or Srinagar may find seats in lower-demand branches with a percentile in the high 70s
- If seats remain vacant after regular counselling, cutoffs can sometimes drop in CSAB Special Rounds, though this usually applies to less popular branches in newer NITs
- For most students in this bracket, GFTIs and Private Universities listed above are most realistic and reliable options.
