Great infrastructure, crowd, and pros.
Placements: A lot of students are interested in core to go for higher studies to learn and work in their desired area. For MME, the placement percentage including core and non-core is 70% out of the registered students. For the MME B.Tech department, the highest salary package offered is 24 LPA. The lowest salary package offered is 8 LPA. Firms are Jaguar, Tata Steel, Arthur D Little, ICICI Bank, KPMG, Delloite, Air India, Accenture, Zomato, and many more. Approximately 50% of students got internships. The top roles offered are SDE, analyst, and graduate engineer trainee.
Infrastructure: IIT Madras has great infrastructure. The new academic buildings give you a foreign university feel. All rooms are air-conditioned. Recently, 3 new buildings are added and for some buildings, the construction is still going on. The hostel facilities are also fine. Some hostels are newly built and the majority are renovated but they give you hostel vibes rather than 10 floors hostel. Each hostel has a gym, pool, and area to play cricket and football. It has OAT and SAC. Roads are amazing. It has all grounds for sports to play football, hockey, basketball, and badminton.
Faculty: Professors are very passionate and have been in foreign universities for Ph.D.s and research work. Some professors help students a lot for their professional growth and mental well-being. The course curriculum is going to change for the 2028 batch to make students industry-ready. The difficulty of the semester depends on the courses and professors. In a semester, you may have some difficult courses where you have to attend compulsory and some are very hill. The pass percentage falls around 85-95% for a tough course and generally 100% for easy courses.
Other: Just because of the brand name I chose IIT Madras and because of some big name who did MME in their graduation. The best things are choosing electives for core subjects, taking courses as an alternative for projects, and opportunities for higher studies. The campus is very well-connected and easy to reach. The campus crowd and surroundings are amazing and push you to do something great in the future. There are so many opportunities to pursue extracurricular activities through clubs and sports. The institute provides scholarship support through the government and alumni.

Best college both in research and opportunities. Well, best for a startup environment too.
Placements: 70-80% get placed, and others go for higher studies. A few opt for a dual degree in data science, which also usually gets placed. This year the highest was 66 LPA, the lowest was around 14 LPA, and the average has risen to 28 LPA. Core recruiters are like Vedanta, Tata Steel, JSW, and Applied Materials, but the above placement states stand for tech companies in which metallurgy students got placed. 20%, as during internship, the company has a choice and not compulsion. This year Finmechanics, Deutsche Bank, Wells Fargo, Jaguar, and a few more metallurgy students got internships.
Infrastructure: It's completely worth it, despite the hostels being not that good, but the other amenities provided by the college are extremely good. The labs and public places have full Wi-Fi, top-notch. You have to take personalized access through credentials, and you are being tracked all the time. Food in the mess is not that good compared to home, obviously.
Faculty: My course is a bit old. Currently, the trend is AI and ML, and our branch is less worth now. In the upcoming generation, metallurgy would rise in renewables POV. Yes, it covers the basics, and you have ample free time to learn coding and enjoy as well. I don't think only B.Tech is sufficient for being industry-ready. Those are pretty tough as a few professors keep open books and try to challenge students. Expect passing around 10-15%.
Other: Ample free time. Professors are helpful, and there is an immense network, so you could get an intern through their help. It's pretty good. Just let it be how it is. Extreme culture both in teaching, sports, and culturals.

There is a good infrastructure on the campus, and there are good faculty members.
Placements: Our college should provide more core companies for every branch for placements. Students should be encouraged from the beginning of their course for placements. Hardly 1 student gets a chance to get placed in a core company. The average salary package offered was hardly 6 LPA. Companies shouldn't even enrol in campus placements if they offer low salary packages.
Infrastructure: In terms of providing facilities, it is the best campus. Wi-Fi facility should be provided on the entire campus, which is still not available. The hostel needs to be improved a lot. A world-class institute can't maintain the same hostel in an old fashion for the last 50 years. Rooms should be well designed with a balcony. Overall, certain things need to be improved.
Faculty: The quality of teaching is reducing here as time progresses. Some teachers are not indulged in either teaching or research. Some teachers don't even know what they are teaching. Some are not even prepared and not even trying to give their best. There are some really excellent professors to whom I really salute. Courses need to be redesigned now as the world is continuously changing. Courses need to be more creative, and it should include group task.
Other: I was interested in studying metallurgy as I had a passion for the steel sector. The best thing about this course is some professors were really encouraging. The quality of teachers and teaching need to be improved.

This place won't disappoint you, go for it.
Placements: As far as the placements for the core disciplines are concerned, chances are bleak as the number of openings are very less and theory of topics right from our first year is expected from to be solid and it is this that they test in the technical rounds of the interview. But for non core, the opportunities are endless.
Infrastructure: All labs and dept buildings are equipped with state of the art facilities and equipment. Students who wish to pursue research would find ample opportunities. The library has a gigantic collection of books available in physical as well as book and pdf formats. The hostels are pretty old, some being as old as the institute itself. The mess food is satisfactory, it's hygienic and all but shouldn't really expect a high protein meal. A fairly good medical facility is also there. That works almost like a PHC.
Faculty: Teachers are really qualified professionals who have done something in terms of research output in their respective fields. One should never expect lecturers to spoon feed you like they did in your coaching class days. Curriculum are a bit slow to changes, so I believe the core courses are a little outdated but they make up for it through elective courses.
Other: IITs aren't the professors here, it ain't the building or the city. It is the people who come here. The stereotypical nerd with big goggles exist, but very few in number and the rest of the kids are just like what we have in every school. A mixture of everything but the difference being that the kids would be a little more driven.
