UCEED 2027 Exams are approaching, and you all must be confused between important topics, previous year question papers, sample papers, etc. In this article, important topics for UCEED Part A and Part B are given. Read on to know more.
UCEED Important Topics
UCEED Entrance Test will be conducted on exam will be held on January 17, 2027 from 9 AM to 12 PM. The exam is expected to be conducted in 27 cities. UCEED registration has been started for 2027 B.Des programme by IIT Bombay. The last day to fill the application form for UCEED 2027 is November 06, 2026, 5 PM, with late fees of INR 500. UCEED admit card will be available from January 01, 2027, onwards.

UCEED Pattern
UCEED Entrance exam will have two Parts: Part A and Part B. Part A will be of 200 marks and of 1 hours. Part B will be of 100 marks and of 2 hours. UCEED Part A will be conducted online. It will be a computer-based exam, whereas Part B will be conducted offline. There is negative marking only in Part A.

If you consider the question paper of UCEED 2026, then the exam can be considered to be moderately difficult. For instance, of the 68 questions asked, around 18 questions fall in the moderate category, 18 in the moderate to difficult category, while the rest can be tagged easy to moderate.
The important topics for UCEED 2027 Part B are given below.
- Drawing: Ability to draw products, people or scenes in proportion with good line quality, composition, proportion, perspective and shading.
- Design Aptitude Capability to practically and appropriately respond to problems/situations with ingenuity and empathy.
Three months is not a lot of time to prepare for an exam of the magnitude of UCEED. But the silver lining is that it could be done, provided your fundamentals are strong.
Here is how you prepare for UCEED in three months.
- Follow UCEED syllabus and exam pattern.
- Make a timetable.
- To start with, focus on topics that are easy but carry decent weightage.
- Once you are done with the easy topics, move on to the moderately difficult and difficult topics.
- Solve sample papers and practice mock tests.
UCEED question paper will have two parts: 1. computer-based Part A and 2. Drawing and aptitude based Part B.
Some of topics to prepare for UCEED are given below.
- Visualization and spatial reasoning: Ability to visualise and transform 2D shapes and 3D objects and their spatial relationships.
- Practical and scientific knowledge: Know-how of scientific principles and everyday objects.
- Observation and design sensitivity: Capacity to detect concealed properties in day-to-day life and think critically about them. Attention to detail, classification, analysis, inference and prediction.
- Environment and society: General awareness of environmental, social and cultural connections with design.
- Analytical and logical reasoning: Ability to analyse qualitative and quantitative information.
- Language: Proficiency in reading and comprehending Standard English.
- Creativity: Grasp of verbal and non-verbal analogies, metaphors, signs and symbols.
Syllabus for UCEED
The Part A of UCEED syllabus is explained below.
- Visualization and spatial reasoning: The question will be based on ability to visualise and transform 2D shapes and 3D objects and their spatial relationships.
- Practical and scientific knowledge:The question will be on the basic scientific principles and everyday objects, like dining table, bookshelves, etc.
- Observation and design sensitivity:Questions will be based on detail, classification, analysis, inference and prediction.
- Environment and society:This part of the syllabus will have topics from general awareness of environmental, social and cultural connections with design
- Analytical and logical reasoning:Question will include analytical and logical reasoning.
- Language: Reading comprehension passage, vocabulary, antonyms and synonym. Etc.
- Creativity:Questions on analogies, metaphors, signs and symbols.
Part-B will have questions on the following topics:
- Drawing: Ability to draw products, people or scenes in proportion with good line quality, composition, proportion, perspective and shading.
- Design aptitude: The Capability to practically and appropriately respond to problems/situations with ingenuity and empathy.

The topics for UCEED Exam are explained in two parts: Part A and Part B.
UCEED Part-A Topics
The topics for Part A of UCEED is given below.
- Percentage, speed, distance, direction, seating arrangement, Venn diagrams, triangles
- Visualization & spatial reasoning: Cube analysis, pattern, recognition, surface counting
- Geometry basics: circles, areas and volume, 2 D figures: area and parameter, 3 D figures, Construction of squares, triangles, blood relation, 3D Figure, surface areas, volume
- Pattern completion, figure matrix, cubes and dice.
- Basic topics of physics: gears, pulleys, basic physics like force, gravity, and inertia
- For Analytical & logical: Image analysis, analogy, mirror images, water images,
- Design Sensitivity & Advanced Reasoning: Fonts, Riddles, 8-piece puzzles, spot the difference
- GK and current affairs
- Vocab: at least 20 words, comprehension passage
- Visual analogies, symbols, metaphors.
Part B UCEED Topics
This will include questions on drawing and design aptitude. Some of the important topics are given below.
- Study about Designβs role in society and culture, design connection
- Daily sketching: basic shapes, everyday objects like spoon stand, jug, dressing table
- Theme-based regular sketching.
- Tracing practice: this will be without lifting the pen
- Memory-based sketching.
- Idea-based drawing based on imagination
Commonly asked questions
IIT Bombay usually doesnβt conduct any mock tests for the UCEED exam. So, the candidate may take mock tests conducted for other entrance exams to prepare for UCEED 2026 exam. The candidate may note that in this case the mocks will help them understand how an online exam is administered and the navigation process. However, it is not an exact replica of how the UCEED 2026 exam will be conducted.
The mock tests are to be taken in the last few weeks before the UCEED exam. Avoid taking mock tests when you are starting preparation for the exam.
The official mock tests for the UCEED exam are usually taken in the last few days leading up to the exam.
So, you can take 3-4 mock tests. The purpose of the mock tests are to help you get familiar with the exam ambience, the question paper structure, and the navigation process.
Unofficial mock tests are more readily available and can be taken at anytime. However, the site offering unofficial mock tests may charge you a fee for taking their mock tests.
The candidate must focus more on solving sample papers to prepare for the UCEED exam. Note that unlike mock tests, sample papers can be used as exam preparation very early on in oneβs exam preparation.
The qualifying cut-off for UCEED will be prepared based on the following formula: π + (πβ2) = πΏ, where π and π are the average marks and standard deviation of distribution of marks obtained by all the candidates in Part-A of UCEED.
- π, π, and πΏ will be rounded-off to two decimal places.
- Candidates belonging to the reserved categories shall have to fulfil a relaxed cut-off mark, which will be 0.9πΏ for OBC-NCL/EWS, 0.5πΏ for SC/ST/PwD, where πΏ is the cut-off mark for the Open category.

Tips to cover the topics for UCEED Entrance Exam
- Practice UCCED mock test once a week. Check your errors and solve them. Solve 2 per week when last month is left. Solve at least 40 mock tests in six months of preparation.
- Solve the sample paper and UCEED PYQs. Download it from the website.
- Practice weekly reading comprehension passage.
- Practice 15-20 new words( vocabulary) in a week and solve a reading comprehension passage daily.
- Practice design sketching daily. Increase the speed of sketching.

UCEED Previous Years Question Paper
