Record Placements at IITs
With majority of academic activity happening online in 2019-2020, the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) witnessed record placements in 2021. Students from premier engineering institutions received higher offers and pay packages than ever before. The first phase of campus placements at all IITs began on December 1 and ended on December 18.

IIT Madras continues to dominate NIRF Rankings
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras created history by becoming the best ranking Indian institute for the third time in a row. The institute was ranked number one in India in both 'Overall' and 'Engineering' category in NIRF Rankings 2021.
BTech in regional languages
After the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) permitted BTech courses in 11 regional languages, 14 engineering colleges from eight states of India opted to teach engineering courses in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi and Bengali from the 2020-21 academic year.
Irregularity in JEE Main Exam
Alleged irregularities in the conduct of JEE Main 2021 session 4 examinations came to the fore in September 2021. Seven persons of a private consultancy firm were arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for charging up to INR 15 lakh per candidate to facilitate admissions in top engineering colleges.
IITs going beyond Engineering
Many IITs went beyond technology and engineering courses to focus on multidisciplinary curriculum this year. IIT Guwahati started a B-School in line with NEP 2020; IIT Madras launched executive MBA degree programme; IIT Delhi launched BDes course and IIT Roorkee established a Department of Design to offer Masters in Design (Industrial Design) and Masters in Innovation Management.
