Candidates preparing for the Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission Test (BITSAT) often face a common question: Should they appear for Session 1 or wait for Session 2? While Session 1 gives students an opportunity to assess their preparation early, Session 2 allows them to take the exam again after getting additional time to practise and revise.
BITSAT is conducted in two sessions, and candidates can choose to appear in either one or both.Candidates who appear in both sessions have their higher score considered for admission to first-degree programmes. The institute also provides a separate application window for candidates who wish to apply for session 2 later. However, candidates must check the brochure for the applicable rules and deadlines.
There is no single answer to which session is better. The decision depends on a student’s preparation level, mock test performance, confidence and willingness to take the exam twice. The choice between session 1 and session 2 should depend on preparation rather than assumptions about question difficulty in BITSAT. Students who are ready can benefit from an early attempt, while those who need more time may prefer Session 2. Candidates who can manage both attempts should consider using the first session to assess their performance and the second to work towards a better score. The details of BITSAT 2027 will be announced soon at admissions.bits-pilani.ac.in.

Commonly asked questions
Students can choose preferred BITSAT exam centre while filling application form. Preferred exam cities have to be selected in order of preference. Based on preferences, exam centres will be given to students.
During BITSAT preparation, students should revise every day. Revising regularly will help them not easily forget what they have already studied. Doing revision daily will help students pace their preparation.
The authority conducts the BITSAT exam in two sessions. The BITSAT 2026 session 1 exam was held from April 15 to 16. The session 2 exam was conducted from May 25 to 27, 2026. Candidates were able to appear in any one or both sessions. In case students appeared for both the best of the two will be considered.
BITSAT exam pattern is released online. Students will have to answer all questions in 3 hours. No extra time will be allowed.
Why Should You Attempt BITSAT Session 1?
Session 1 can be a good choice for candidates who have completed most of the syllabus and are comfortable solving timed mock tests.
- Assess your actual exam performance
Mock tests help students understand the exam pattern, but the actual examination can feel different because of time pressure and exam-day conditions. Session 1 gives candidates an opportunity to assess their speed, accuracy and ability to manage all sections within the allotted time.
2. Get an early performance benchmark
If you plan to appear for both sessions, your first score can help you identify the areas that need improvement. For example, a student who performs well in Physics but loses marks in Mathematics can focus on the latter before Session 2.
3. Plan your next attempt more effectively
An early attempt can help students move beyond general preparation and concentrate on specific weaknesses. They can revise difficult chapters, practise more questions and improve time management before the next session.
4. Reduce last-minute pressure
Appearing for Session 1 can help students become familiar with the computer-based examination environment. This experience may make the second attempt feel more manageable, although it does not guarantee a higher score.
Why Should You Consider BITSAT Session 2?
Session 2 may be more suitable for candidates who need additional preparation time or want to improve their performance after an earlier attempt.
1. More time for revision
Students who are still completing the syllabus may benefit from the additional weeks before Session 2. This time can be used to revise Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or Biology, depending on the programme and test combination applicable to them.
However, candidates should not postpone all preparation until Session 2. A structured study plan and regular mock tests remain important.
2. Work on weak topics
Students who have already attempted Session 1 can use their performance to identify gaps in preparation. Instead of revising every chapter equally, they can prioritise topics where they lose marks or take too much time.
3. Another opportunity to improve your score
Candidates who appear for both sessions can use the second attempt to try to achieve a better score. As per the BITSAT 2026 rules, the higher of the two scores is considered for admission to first-degree programmes.
This makes Session 2 particularly relevant for students whose first attempt does not reflect their preparation or target score.
4. Focus on accuracy and speed
BITSAT requires candidates to manage multiple sections within a fixed time. Additional practice can help students improve question selection, reduce avoidable mistakes and develop a more effective examination strategy.

Should You Attempt Both BITSAT Sessions?
For candidates who can manage the application fee, preparation schedule and exam dates, attempting both sessions is worth considering. It provides two opportunities to perform well instead of relying on a single examination attempt. The higher score is considered when a candidate appears in both sessions. However, appearing twice does not automatically result in a better score. Students should use the time between sessions to analyse their performance and make targeted improvements.
Candidates should also compare the applicable fees and deadlines before deciding. In the 2026 cycle, students could initially apply for Session 1 or both sessions, while a separate application window was available for Session 2. The exact procedure and fee structure for BITSAT 2027 should be checked in the official notification.
How to Prepare Between BITSAT Session 1 and Session 2
Candidates planning to appear for both sessions should avoid repeating the same preparation strategy without reviewing their first attempt. Here are some practical steps:
1. Analyse your first attempt: Identify sections and question types where you lost marks or spent too much time.
2. Revise weak chapters: Give priority to topics that need improvement rather than revising the entire syllabus without a plan.
3. Take timed mock tests: Practise under examination conditions to improve speed and accuracy.
4. Review incorrect answers: Understand whether mistakes occurred because of conceptual gaps, calculation errors or incorrect question selection.
5. Practise English and Logical Reasoning: Do not focus exclusively on Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or Biology.
6. Avoid unnecessary changes to your strategy: Retain the methods that worked and modify only the areas that affected your performance.
7. Check official updates: Keep track of the Session 2 application window, slot booking, admit card and examination dates.
Is BITSAT Session 2 Easier Than Session 1?
BITSAT is a computer-based examination in which candidates receive question sets from a question bank. The institute states that different candidates receive different question sets designed to maintain comparable difficulty and content. There is no reason to assume that session 2 is always easier or more difficult than session 1. Therefore, candidates should not choose a session solely on the assumption that it will have easier questions or a lower admission cutoff. Preparation level, accuracy and time management are more useful factors when deciding when to appear.
