NTA has introduced several changes to the JEE Mains 2026 registration process. Candidates must know how the Aadhar authentication, e-KYC, live photo capture and other such new features work. This will help JEE Mains applicants have a smooth registration experience.
Every year, many students make small, avoidable mistakes while filling out the JEE Main application form. A single spelling mistake, a wrong upload, or an incomplete detail can create several problems later and ultimately cause rejection of the application form. Aspirants of the JEE Main 2026 exam must read this carefully, as we discuss some common errors and how to approach the new features in the JEE Main registration.
Filling in Wrong Details
The first and foremost step in the JEE Mains registration process is filling out the details. Candidates have to fill in their personal details. Unlike many speculations, there is no auto-fetch of the data. Carefully fill in your name, date of birth, parents’ details and more. The authorities will allow students to correct only limited details during the JEE Main application form correction 2026.
Using an Invalid Email ID or Mobile Number
Students must use a valid email ID and mobile number as NTA will send all the updates on the JEE Main 2026 exam processes to the contact details provided by students. Moreover, candidates will be sent a one-time password (OTP) during the JEE Main registration 2026.
Uploading Wrong or Blurry Images
A large number of forms are rejected because of poor image uploads. The authorities specifically mention the JEE Main 2026 photo and signature guidelines that students must adhere to while filling the form. The same photo and signature are used for generating the JEE Main city intimation slip, admit card and the rank card
- Use a recent passport-size photo with a light background.
- Sign in black ink on white paper, and scan it clearly.
- Save both files as JPG/JPEG.
- If your image looks unclear, redo it and avoid any risks.
Skipping on e-KYC
Once the students choose the identity document, they have to validate its authenticity by completing the e-KYC. For this, applicants must choose from Aadhaar/PAN/Digilocker/Passport, enter the ID number and fill in the OTP received on the registered mobile number. This OTP will be provided on the respective document’s registered mobile number. If candidates do not complete the e-KYC stage, their documents will not be considered, and this stage will remain incomplete.
Errors in Category Stage
Students who seek category benefits must select their category and provide all the valid details. For this, they should refer to the category certificate and avoid any mistakes during form-filling itself. Candidates also have to upload their category certificate during registration.
Picking the Wrong Exam City
Choosing the exam cities should be done very carefully. Despite all the claims, NTA has officially stated that it will allocate centres based on the candidate's preferences. Students must pick their home and nearby city options for an easy commute and less travel inconvenience.
NTA released JEE Main 2026 Session 1 Application form on October 31. JEE Mains 2026 registration last date session 1 was November 27, 2025. The link to apply for session 1 was available on the website jeemain.nta.nic.in.
JEE Main Registration 2026 session 1 is over. Session 2 registration will start in the last week of January 2026.
Possible Mistakes in Live Photo Capture
This newly introduced feature is the highlight of the JEE Mains registration process. Candidates have to switch on their camera or connect their webcam to the device to capture the live photograph. There is also a QR code provided for students who wish to capture their photo from a mobile device/tablet. During the capturing of the Live Photograph for JEE Mains 2026, the applicant has to, applicants must ensure a light-colored background with proper lighting, and 80% face visibility (including ears, without a mask).
Making Errors in Educational Details
It is very common and a highly likely error to mistype the marks, board names, school names, or passing years. But even one incorrect digit can create mismatches during verification. It is advised to keep the class 10 mark sheet around while filling out the form.
Rushing Through the Payment Step
Refreshing the page during transaction may result in failed payments or duplicate transactions. Sometimes, even using unstable connections or unverified gateways may be the reason for the same to occur. Pay using the modes mentioned only, and do not back out without receiving the confirmation message of the transaction.
Submission without Review
Do not wait for the deadline; instead, apply as soon as possible to avoid any errors at the last moment. Filling the form in a rush often leads to avoidable mistakes. Check all the details in the application form before clicking on the 'Submit' button.
Forgetting to Save the Confirmation Page
Once the payment is done, students often close the tab without downloading the confirmation page or receipt. Later, they have no record of submission or transaction proof.
After paying the fee, download:
- The application form PDF
- The confirmation page
- The payment receipt
Keep both printed and digital copies safe till the admission process ends.
Ignoring the Correction Window
NTA opens the JEE Main correction window for a few days after registration closes. Some students assume their form is perfect and skip it. Later, they regret not correcting a small error that causes issues during counselling. Even if you’re confident, log in once during the correction window and recheck your form.
The schedule of JEE Main 2026 application form has been announced on the official website, jeemain.nta.nic.in. NTA has released the JEE Main application form 2026 on October 31, 2025. No, JEE Main application fees can not be paid in offline mode. As per the directions of NTA, JEE Main application fees can be paid only in online mode. Candidates can pay the application fees using credit/debit card or internet banking. No other modes/medium of application fee payment is accepted.
If candidates are facing issue in live photo capture, it can be due to mismatch from photo uploaded in Aadhar. For this, they need to visit the Aadhar update centre and get their current photo updated in the Aadhaar database.
The issue can also be due to any servor error/slow internet connectivity for which candidates can try uploading it after some time. Also, there can be a case of laptop/computer not supporting the webcame, for this, candidates can upload the photo using QR code provided in the application process.
