BITSAT is a major exam after JEE which the aspirants definitely take and prepare for. Just like the craze of JEE Main has increased, the craze of BITSAT too has increased as well. There is immense competition for securing a seat in either of the BITS Pilani campuses located in India. The premier institute has no reservation policy and this factor makes it stand out to a great extent.
The college life of the students at BITS is also very engaging and nurtures them to achieve great heights in all the fields. These points make BITSAT a top choice for aspirants preparing for engineering entrances in our country. BITSAT syllabus is slightly different from the syllabus of JEE Main. There will be a few things that you would have to do more for BITSAT and some extra preparation too would be needed.

BITSAT is different from JEE in its overall pattern. It has 150 questions along with 12 bonus questions, which unlock only when you attempt all the first 150 questions. The paper is of 3 hours and requires very good speed and accuracy. The negative marking percentage is also more in BITSAT as compared to JEE. Due to these reasons, aspirants need to give some special attention to BITSAT preparations after completing their JEE syllabus. The syllabus for the two exams is very similar, with a few extra topics in BITSAT, which can be studied in the last few weeks itself. Take a look at BITSAT detailed exam pattern on Shiksha.
Generally, the maximum obtainable marks of BITSAT are more than that of JEE. You need to keep an eye on the timer all the time to be able to complete the paper within time and obtain a good score as well. A score above 300 is always safe to get admission in any engineering stream conducted at any of the three campuses of BITS Pilani. For getting top branches, you need a score above 350 out of 450 marks. This clearly shows how accurate you need to be and you just get 3 hours to answer the BITSAT, which has 150 questions along with a few bonus questions and hence a lot of speed is needed.
Here, we will talk about how you can prepare for BITSAT in one year and ace it with a great score as well.
You can prepare in the following manner for qualifying BITSAT 2020 with good marks:
- In the first 8 months of your preparation, mostly till December, you must focus on the completion of the BITSAT 2020 syllabus. You can complete the syllabus with your JEE coaching and side by side, you can take one BITSAT mock test every month.
- You can keep a few hours per week for completing the BITSAT coaching material.
- From January, you should start revision and make concise notes to revise the syllabus in the last month.
- In January, you should start taking 2 mock tests in 3 weeks or so.
- In February, you must study the topics of BITSAT which are not a part of the JEE Main syllabus and focus well on Inorganic and other components of Chemistry, so that you are able to get a great score in BITSAT Chemistry.
- March and April are going to be your prime months of BITSAT preparation and you can devote most of March to revising for JEE Main, and that preparation will help you for BITSAT as well.
- In April, you can give more time to BITSAT mock tests. The frequency of tests must increase to 1 mock test per week in the starting weeks of April and soon you can move to 2 mock tests per week.
- In May, you would be taking the BITSAT exam and your focus should be on analysing your performance in the mock tests, improving with each mock test, and revising the chapters nicely. Don’t take too many mock tests every week in May and focus on improving and grasping the test-taking strategy that suits you.
With adequate practice, by the time your BITSAT date approaches, you would be thorough with the strategy with which you want to attempt the test. You would also be very comfortable with the exam interface and overall platform. Your speed and accuracy would also be much better by then. Just a little confidence and faith would be all that you would need to excel in BITSAT. Be positive and keep telling yourself that you can do it and you will surely be able to ace BITSAT.
