JEE Main 2025 exam analysis April 2 shift 1 and 2 reveals that Chemistry questions were most difficult in shift 1 exam of April 2 while in Shift 2, Mathematics was the toughest subject. JEE Main April 2 Shift 1 and 2 paper analysis provided here is based on poll conducted by Shiksha and various subject experts of JEE Mains 2025.

The NTA conducted JEE Main 2025 April 2 exam in two shifts, morning shift from 9 am to 12 pm and evening shift from 3 pm to 6 pm. Shiksha conducted an online poll where students can put their opinion about the overall difficulty level of questions asked in exam in both shifts, and the subject-wise difficulty level within the paper. More than 5000 students who appeared in the JEE Main April 2 exam 2025 participated in the poll. Here is the JEE Main 2025 April 2 shift 1 and 2 paper analysis with overall and subject-wise difficulty level of paper.

JEE Main 2025 April 2 Shift 1 Exam Analysis

The JEE Main paper conducted on 2nd April, 2025, during the morning shift, was rated as moderate in overall difficulty compared to Session 1. Among the three sections, Physics was the easiest, Mathematics was of moderate difficulty, and Chemistry was the most challenging due to its emphasis on direct NCERT chart-based questions.

Q:   What is the exam pattern of JEE Mains?
A:

JEE Main 2026 exam pattern has been released by the NTA. As per exam pattern, the JEE Main Paper 1 (BE/B.Tech) exam will consist of 75 questions, 25 each from Physics Chemistry and Mathematics. Out of 25 questions, 20 will be MCQs and 5 will be NAV. Students need to answer all 75 questions. JEE Main paper 2A for B.Arch consists of 77 questions of which 25 are from Mathematics, 50 from General Aptitude and 2 from Drawing. In Paper 2B for BPlan total questions are 100 of which 25 are from Mathematics, 50 from General Aptitude and 25 from Planning.

The question paper will have no internal choices within questions and total duration of exam is 3 hours. 

Q:   Is there negative marking in JEE Main?
A:

Yes, JEE Main exam has negative marking provision. As per the current exam pattern of JEE Main, 4 marks is awarded for every correct answer, while 1 mark is deducted for every incorrect answer.

Q:   Is there any change in JEE Main 2026 exam pattern?
A:

No, NTA has not announced any change in JEE Main 2026 exam pattern. However, NTA made changes in JEE Main exam pattern in 2025. As per the current JEE exam pattern, the total number of questions in JEE Main Paper 1 (BE/BTech) are 75, 25 each from Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Also, there are no optional question in section B in any subject. Students will need to answer all 5 questions in section B from all three subjects. The marking scheme and total marks remain the same.

As per students who appeared in the JEE Main April 2 Shift 1 exam 2025, Mathematics questions were time consuming and lengthy. However, in a first, many students reportted Chemistry to be toughest in JEE Main 2025 April 2 shift 1 exam.

JEE Main 2025 April 2 Shift 1 Physics was easy, with a majority of the questions being numerical. Most questions were asked from topics such as Mechanics, Thermodynamics. Electrostatics, Optics, and Units & Measurements had a strong presence, while Modern Physics and Magnetism had fewer questions. Notably, there were no questions from the EMI and AC chapters.

In Chemistry part of JEE Main April 2 Shift 2 exam, questions were rated moderate to difficult. Almost all chapters were covered, with Inorganic and Physical Chemistry being dominant, while Organic Chemistry had fewer questions. Most theoretical questions were directly based on NCERT, making the section straightforward. However, data-based questions proved challenging.

Q:   Is there any change in marking scheme and total number of questions in JEE Main 2026?
A:

The exam pattern of JEE Main 2026 has not been announced yet. As per the current exam pattern, the Paper 1 exam has 75 questions, 25 each from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. In Paper 2A and 2B, the total number of questions are 77 and 100, respectively. The total marks of JEE Main Paper 1 is 300, for Paper 2A and 2B its 400.

Q:   What is marking scheme of JEE Mains numerical value questions?
A:

Numerical value questions have numerical value or integer in answer. You will get 4 Marks for a correct answer, and -1 is deducted for an incorrect answer. If you don't solve a question, you will get zero marks.

The Mathematics JEE Main 2025 April 2 Shift 2 questions were of moderate difficulty, with well-distributed questions across most chapters from topics such as Matrices, 3D Geometry, Vectors, Conic Sections, Calculus, and Determinants were prominently featured. The difficulty level was not excessively high, and unlike Session 1 held in January.

The JEE Main April 2, 2025 shift 2 exam was rated moderate in overall difficulty. Chemistry was the easiest, Physics was of moderate difficulty, and Mathematics was the most challenging. As per the feedback of students who appeared in the exam and many subject experts, many questions in Maths section were lengthy and time consuming.

The Shiksha poll also verifies JEE Main 2025 April 2 exam analysis made by various subject experts. A total 32% students found Mathematics to be the toughest subject. Chemistry and Physics got 29% and 10% votes respectively in terms of most difficult subject in JEE Main 2025 April 2 shift 2 paper.

In Physics part of JEE Mains 2025 shift 2 April 2, questions were of moderate difficulty, with a majority of the questions being numerical. Some questions were calculative and slightly time-consuming, while many theoretical questions were also included. Many questions were asked from topics like Mechanics, Electrostatics, Optics, and Units & Measurements.

The JEE Main April 2 shift 2 Chemistry part, questions were rated easy by most students. Almost all chapters were covered, with Organic and Physical Chemistry being dominant, while Inorganic Chemistry had very few questions. Most theoretical questions were directly based on NCERT, making the section straightforward and scoring.

JEE Main 2025 April 2 Shift 2 Mathematics questions were moderate to difficult, with some questions being lengthy and time-consuming. Topics such as Matrices, Permutations & Combinations, 3D Geometry, Vectors, Conic Sections, and Calculus were prominently featured. While the overall difficulty level was not excessively high, certain questions were both difficult and lengthy, making this section the most challenging.

No. The JEE Mains emphasizes on deep knowledge and quote challenging with negative marking whereas KCET is moderately difficult which emphasizes on direct factual questions with no negative markings.
