IIT Delhi Establishes Rekhi Mind Lab to Explore Science of Happiness

To advance the science of happiness, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has inaugurated the Rekhi Mind Lab, a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to research and the development of pedagogical tools for integrating happiness and well-being into the academic curriculum. The lab was inaugurated by IIT Delhi Director, Prof. Rangan Banerjee, and Dr. Satinder Singh Rekhi, founder of the Rekhi Foundation for Happiness, marking a significant step toward making happiness a learnable skill.
Earlier this year, IIT Delhi and the Rekhi Foundation signed an MoU, paving the way for the establishment of the Rekhi Mind Lab. The inaugural event was held in conjunction with International Happiness Day celebrations, drawing over 500 participants, including students and faculty from IIT Delhi and various colleges of Delhi University.
Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director of IIT Delhi, addressing the gathering highlighted the importance of this collaboration, saying, "At IIT Delhi, we are committed to pushing the boundaries of innovation and research. Rekhi Mind Lab aligns perfectly with our mission to address real-world challenges through interdisciplinary approaches. This initiative will not only benefit students at IIT Delhi but also serve as a model for educational institutions across the country."
Dr. Satinder Rekhi, in his keynote address, spoke about the concept of the โMonkey Brainโ and highlighted self-control and mindfulness as key solutions to overcoming various challenges. Sharing his vision for the foundation he said, "Rekhi Foundationโs aim is to spread happiness through Happy Students, Happy Faculty, Happy Campuses, and Happy Communities. Starting in 2016, at IIT Kharagpur, now Rekhi Happiness Centres have presence in over 60 institutions spread over 6 countries. The initiative has been successful in promoting happiness through scientific methods, offering university courses, establishing mind labs, and organizing community events and workshops.โ
Prof. Jyoti Kumar, Head of the Department of Design at IIT Delhi and Rekhi Mind lab shared, " Mind Lab activities will be a platform for scientifically driven transformative approaches in higher education rooted in the science of happinessโ. He further added, โWe have already floated a short course on science of happiness and the pedagogy will follow an integrative approach focusing on theories along with culturally relevant practices such as gratitude journaling, mindfulness, nature immersion, and yoga, to create a holistic framework for education where students thrive academically, emotionally, and socially.โ
The Department of Management Studies (DMS), IIT Delhi, also known as DMS IIT Delhi offers a two-year MBA course at undergraduate courses in a full-time mode. IIT Delhi is a decent option to pursue an MBA degree. IIT Delhi ranked 4 by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) in the Management category IN 2024. Talking about DMS IIT Delhi MBA placements 2023, the average package offered was INR 25.82 LPA and the highest package stood at INR 41.13 LPA. A placement percentage of 100% was achieved. Thus, it is a good institute for an MBA.
