IIT Madras To Expand Academic Horizons with BSc BEd Programme; Check Details

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras is planning to introduce a BSc programme in Mathematics and Computing with a BEd component starting from the next academic year. The BSc degree will be offered in online mode, while the BEd will be conducted in collaboration with the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), with the aim of developing quality mathematics teachers.
The goal is to produce at least 500 teachers annually. The institute will place greater emphasis on its School of Interdisciplinary Studies, which will feature faculty members from various departments and offer MTech and PhD programmes. Additionally, the 'Startup 100' initiative will see a new startup launched every three days this year. IIT Madras is also expected to introduce a cultural quota for artists in its admissions process.

For the sixth consecutive year, IIT Madras has secured the top spot in the 'Overall' category and maintained its first-place ranking in the 'Engineering' category for the ninth year in a row. Additionally, the institute achieved a second-place ranking in the 'Research Institution' category, according to the latest rankings released by the Union Ministry of Education.
IIT-M Director V Kamakoti expressed his gratitude to the 11,000 students and faculty members whose efforts contributed to this achievement. He also acknowledged the vital support from students, staff, alumni, and both state and central governments, which he credited for helping IIT Madras meet the nation’s educational needs.
He highlighted that over the past two years, the institute has placed significant emphasis on advanced courses in medical sciences, artificial intelligence, and data analytics. Additionally, initiatives such as the sports excellence campaign, which involved national sports champions, have played a crucial role in securing high rankings.
