Q:   Why choose IIT Madras?
A: 

Identified as an 'Institute of Eminence', the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras or IITM) was established in 1959 as a public technical and research university. It is the third IIT to be set up by the Government of India and is autonomous in nature. The institute recently launched the country's first online BSc Programme in Programming in Data Science. IITM is also known for its Quality Improvement Programme (QIP),  which is sponsored by the AICTE  (All India Council for Technical Education). 

Q:   What is the highest package at IIT Madras?
A: 

IIT Madras overall highest package data is not released. The best placement was observed in BTech CS branch with average package of INR 53.2 LPA.

During MBA and Tech MBA placements 2025, the highest package offered was 35.5 LPA and 81 LPA.

Q:   What is the JEE Main application fee?

The application fees for JEE Main is written below

Yes, IIT Madras can be one of the prime choice for MBA aspirants. The institute recorded a 100% placement rate for its MBA batch passing out in 2024. Q:   When will the GATE 2024 be conducted?
A: 

IISc Bangalore conducted the GATE 2024 exam on February 3, 4, 10, and 11, 2024. The GATE 2024 application form was released on 24th August 2024 on the official website at gate.iisc.ac.in. The organising institute for GATE 2024 was IISc Bangalore. The exam was conducted online as a computer-based test for 29 papers. Candidates had to solve 65 questions in 180 minutes (3 hours). DoMS IIT Madras cutoff 2025 was published for admission to the management course, as MBA, based on the candidates' performance in the CAT entrance exam. For the General AI category, the DoMS IIT Madras CAT cutoff 2025 was 85.11 overall and 50 for all the sections, like Quants, VA-RC and DI-LR. 

Students who want admission to this institute need to clear both the overall percentile and the sectional cutoff. Those who clear the final CAT cutoff are then eligible to take part in the selection process that may involve WAT, GD and PI.

Certainly, IIT Madras accepts CAT results for MBA programme admissions. Specifically, CAT is the sole entrance exam considered for admission to IIT Madras' MBA program. Candidates are evaluated based on their CAT scores as a screening criterion, after which they are shortlisted for the subsequent selection process comprising a group exercise and an in-person interview. The minimum CAT score necessary for admission to the MBA programme at IIT Madras typically falls within the 90th percentile range. However, this percentile requirement varies annually, influenced by factors such as the number of applicants and overall CAT exam performance.

Q:   How can I join IIT Madras for MSc?
A: 

For IIT Madras MSc admission, candidates need to apply online via IIT JAM. After successful registration, candidates are then required to appear for the entrance exam. Selected candidates are then called for the counselling round as a final selection round. IIT JAM registration window for 2026 is now closed.

Q:   Is MBA available at IIT Madras?

Yes, IIT Madras offers MBA course via the Department of Management Studies (DoMS). The duration of this course is two-years, which is divided into seven quarters. Q:   Can I use CAT score for direct admission to MBA?

No, you cannot get direct admission to the MBA course based on the CAT score. A valid CAT score only gets you eligible to apply for the management course.

To secure your spot for the course, you have to first attain the accepted CAT cutoff and get shortlisted for the multi-stage selection process, which includes a Personal Interview (PI) and profile evaluation.  Students who clear both these criteria are eligible for the final admission offer letter.

IIT Madras has been ranked 180 by the QS World University Rankings 2026. IIT Madras has been ranked 1st under the Overall category, 2nd under the Research Institutions category, 13th under the Management category,1st under the Innovation category, 1st under the SDG Institutions category, and 1st under the Engineering category by NIRF 2025.

Q:   What are the qualifying marks for JEE Mains 2026?
A: 

Qualifying marks for JEE Mains 2026, also called qualifying percentile for JEE Mains will be announced by the NTA along with the JEE Main 2026 session 2 result. Candidates must note that qualifying percentile for JEE Mains 2026 is the minimum percentile required to appear in JEE Advanced 2026. For admission to NIT or IIITs, there is no provision of qualifying marks in JEE Mains 2026 and admission is given based on All India Rank in JEE Mains exam. NTA will announce JEE Mains 2026 All India rank in April after session 2 exam results.

Q:   What sports events are in IIT Madras?
A: 

Every year in September, IIT Madras organizes a sports fest, an intercollegiate meet for local colleges in tennis, volleyball, basketball, hockey, football, table tennis, weightlifting and badminton. 

  • The tournaments hosted by IIT Madras are listed below:
  • The Jimmy George Tournament for Volleyball
  • Sanmar Tournament for Cricket

IIT Madras is also the part of Inter IIT Sports meet. It's an annual sports meet With over 3000 athletes participating from all 23 IITs, the event is the biggest and the oldest pan-IIT event.

Q:   How much JEE Advanced cutoff is required for IIT Madras BTech in CSE admission?
A: 

The JEE Advanced 2023 cutoff for Round 6 at IIT Madras has been released. During the IIT Madras cutoff 2023, the Round 1 and the last round clsoing cutoff rank were 144 and 148, respectively for the BTech in Computer Science and Engineering course. During the IIT Madras cutoff 2022, the last round cutoff was closed at 175 for the General All India category students. In 2021, IIT Madras JEE Advanced last round cutoff was 163. So, analysis the three year cutoff data for IIT Madras BTech in CSE, candidates seeking admission to this course must secure a rank between 140 and 150. 

 
Q:   What is the cutoff for BTech in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering at IIT Madras for other than general categories?
A: 

The last year 2022 cutoff ranks for BTech in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering at IIT Madras - Indian Institute of Technology other than General category are - 3287 for OBC, 1796 for SC, 901 for ST and 1373 for EWS. While the admissions are based on the scores/rank obtained in JEE exam, the last cut offs also change a lot depending on All India quota or Home State. It also varies if the applicant is a female.
