The NZEA 2025 scholarships will offer partial funding for Indian students in New Zealand, while the Virtual Internship Programme will enable 30 IIT Delhi students to intern remotely with New Zealand companies.

New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has announced a NZ$260,000 scholarship package under the New Zealand Excellence Awards (NZEA) 2025, reinforcing New Zealand’s commitment to supporting Indian students. The scholarships were unveiled at an education-focused event at IIT Delhi, highlighting growing academic ties between the two nations.

The NZEA 2025 scholarships will provide partial funding for Indian students pursuing higher education in New Zealand. Additionally, Luxon introduced a Virtual Internship Programme that will allow 30 IIT Delhi students to intern remotely with New Zealand-based companies, offering industry exposure and insights into New Zealand’s innovation ecosystem.

The event also underscored ongoing research collaborations in fields like AI, sustainability, disaster resilience, and engineering, including a joint climate change mitigation project between IIT Delhi and the University of Canterbury.

New Zealand and Indian institutions are set to sign multiple MoUs to further boost student mobility, academic exchanges, and research partnerships.

Prime Minister Luxon emphasized New Zealand’s commitment to academic excellence, stating, “Through scholarships and collaborative programs, we aim to strengthen educational opportunities for Indian students and foster global talent.”

IIT Delhi Director Prof. Rangan Banerjee welcomed the new initiatives, highlighting the impact of the New Zealand Centre at IIT Delhi in advancing student and faculty collaborations.

The event featured a fireside chat with distinguished New Zealand alumni, including singer-actress Shirley Setia (University of Auckland) and Ashwani Batla (University of Waikato, Dharma Productions), who shared their academic and career journeys.

With these new scholarships and academic initiatives, New Zealand is expanding its support for Indian students, reinforcing its role as a key destination for higher education and global career development.
