IIT Kharagpur BTech admissions 2026 are closed now. The JOSAA 2026 counselling process has concluded for the BE/BTech course with the release of Round 5 seat allotment results.
IIT Kharagpur BTech Highlights 2026
IIT Kharagpur BTech is a flagship programme offered in full-time mode at the institute. The total course duration is four-years.
- There are total 15 BTech specialisations at IIT Kharagpur. Some top BTech courses at IIT KGP are CSE, Mechanical Engineering, ECE, etc.
- Along with this, the institute offers a five-year Integrated BTech + MTech programme. Students can opt for the interdisciplinary dual degree. Some MTech micro-specialisations are Financial Engineering, Engineering Entrepreneurship, etc.
- The total tuition fee for all BTech programmes is INR 8 lakh.
- Admissions in the BTech at IIT KGP are completely entrance-based. Students have to appear for JEE Main followed by JEE Advance. The seats are allotted through JoSAA counselling.
- As per the 2026 cutoffs, BTech admissions at IIT Kharagpur were closed at a rank of 12603 (Agricultural and Food Engineering). The competition was highest for admissions in CSE branch as the closing rank for the same was 509 (General).
- The institute also provides merit-cum-means scholarship as tuition fee waiver and INR 1,000/ month. Students with 60% and above marks in entrance exam are eligible for the same.

No, generally candidates cannot get direct admission in IIT Kharagpur. However, candidates can apply through the SCOPE (Science Olympiad) and SEA (Sports Excellence) schemes without standard JEE ranks. IIT Kharagpur conducts admissions to the majority of its courses via the entrance test method. IIT Kharagpur BTech course admission is a multi-process that needs to be followed by students to get into the institute. The admission process is divided in three main stages. Given below is the step-by-step IIT Kharagpur admission process for BTech:
STEP 1: IIT Kharagpur BTech Application Process 2026
To apply for BTech courses, students are required to apply via JEE Main. The process of application for JEE Main consists of three steps: registration, form filling & document uploading followed by payment of application fees. Follow below steps to fill out the JEE Main application form:
- Visit jeemain.nta.nic.in and complete the registration process.
- Login and fill the application form by adding personal and academic details.
- Select paper choice (BTech), exam city & question paper medium followed by session (1/ 2).
- Upload documents then pay JEE Main application fee 2026 of INR 1,000 (general male) and INR 800 (female).
- Submit application form.

STEP 2: JoSAA Counselling

The counselling process is conducted in multiple rounds. Seats are allotted on the basis of entrance merit/ rank.
STEP 3: Admission Confirmation
After successful seat allocation, students must pay a SAF (seat acceptance fee) to lock their seats. The rest of the fee has to be paid on the IIT Kharagpur ERP portal. Candidates are also required to report to the campus for document verification.

IIT Kharagpur BTech Scholarships 2026
IITKGP BTech scholarships are offered based on merit and need. Under the Merit-cum-Means scholarship, the institute supports meritorious students by providing them financial aid. As per the scholarship policy, 25% of the students admitted each year to the undergraduate courses are offered financial aid.
Fresh entrant students should have obtained at least 60% marks in aggregate or a grade corresponding to 60% marks in the qualifying examination for JEE Advanced. Students get tuition fee waiver along with INR 1,000/ month in the MCM (merit-cum-means) scholarship. For subsequent renewals, the students should have at least 7 CGPA in the two consecutive semesters.
