Here are some points that can help students understand the importance of solving the previous year's questions papers of JEE Main.
NO, it is compulsory to attempt all questions in the JEE Main exam. The JEE Main exam has negative marking and candidates must answer only those questions for which they know the correct answer. Students must note that there are no minimum marks in JEE Main that students need to score. Students gets All India Rank based on the marks they secure in exam and gets admission based on that rank.
Questions in the JEE Main exam are of two types
Multiple choice questions - Each question will have 4 options with only 1 correct answer. Candidates have to select the correct answer out of the 4 available options.
Numerical Ability Question - In these type of questions, no options are provided. Candidates have to solve the question and write its answer using keyword and mouse. Answer to these questions will be a numerical value.
1. Get Acquainted With Exam Pattern
Solving previous years’ papers helps students to get accustomed to the marking scheme, JEE Main 2024 exam pattern, types of questions, weightage of chapters, etc. Students also get an idea of recurring topics over the years. However, the exam pattern as well as difficulty level of JEE Mains has underwent a lot of changes during the last 10 years but still solving previous year JEE Main question papers from last 10 years will definitely help in scoring the good marks in the exam. As new type of questions (Questions with Numerical Value Answer) were intrduced recently, students are advised to practice solving these type of questions to help solve it during the actual exam.
Question paper during the exam will be visible in English, Hindi and the language selected by the candidate while filling the JEE Main application form. Candidates can switch the language of question paper between the default languages which is English Hindi and selected language in the application. In total, JEE Main is conducted in 13 languages and candidates have the option to select any language out of the available options. Candidates cannot switch the language of question paper between all 13 languages during the exam.

How to include the previous year's JEE Main question papers in the study plan?
Following are the few tips with the help of which students can utilize the previous year papers for better preparation for the exam:
- Try to include solving one paper daily in the study schedule
- After completing a chapter, refer to a book having related MCQs asked in previous years. This way students can solve previous year questions and revise the topic just learned
- In the last month of the exam, solve one question paper every day either from 9 am to 12 pm or 3 pm to 6 pm as JEE Main will be conducted in these shifts only.
- Analysis of the papers, important topics can be understood only after studying the frequency of questions asked.
- Solve at least 10 years’ papers. As the syllabus of these papers are authentic and relevant to the current syllabus
