Preparation for this examination is not a process to be completed in a month or few months rather it is a continuous process of preparation for the year(s) along with class 11 and 12 Board preparation. Few tips which will help even in the small-time left.

Q:   How many months are required to prepare for JEE Mains exam?
A:

The time period required to complete the JEE Main preparation depends mainly on the students. Every student has their own pace of study. Ideally, 6-month time is good enough to complete the JEE Main preparation. Students who have started preparing from class 11 or 12 can easily prepare for JEE Main in 6 months considering the topics of JEE syllabus have already been studied in classes 11 and 12.

JEE Main preparation is most effective with classes 11 and 12 as almost 90-95 percent of topics are similar in both exams. This way students can easily complete the entire JEE Main syllabus as well as the syllabus of classes 11 and 12. After the board exams, students get 1-2 months' time where they can focus entirely on JEE Main. Students who have started late for the JEE Main exam can make a 6-month plan where in the first three months they have to focus on revising the syllabus studied in classes 11 and 12. In the next two months focus on solving questions of JEE Main and analyzing the mistakes being made, if any. The last month should be focused on solving mock tests and JEE Main previous year question papers.

Q:   How to crack JEE Mains in first attempt?
A:

Clearing the JEE Main exam in first attempt is not a difficult task. Several students clear JEE Main while in class 12. One thing that makes it easy to clear JEE Main with class 12 is that students are in regular touch of most JEE syllabus. To score good marks in JEE Main in the first attempt, it is advised that you study class 11 and 12 topics thoroughly, clear all the concepts and solve mock test papers. Also, NCERT books which you study in class 11 and 12 are the best books for JEE Main preparation. Students must study NCERT properly and solve all the questions in the book and do not memorize the concepts as some students do rather understand the concepts.

Q:   How should I prepare for JEE Mains and Advanced together?
A:
Students can prepare for both Mains and Advanced together but it is not a wise idea to prepare together as both exams have different syllabus, exam pattern and difficulty level. The difficulty level of JEE Advanced exam is much higher than JEE Mains. If preparing together for both the exams, make a list of topics that are asked in JEE Main as well as Advanced. Solve questions from these topics from NCERT as well as additional books. For JEE Mains, students can stick to NCERT but for JEE Advanced students need to take help from books like HC Verma.

Smart planning and time management are the keys – a smart revision covering the entire syllabus well within the available time. Make a study task table to utilize the time effectively by dividing the subjects and topics on daily basis to cover revision comfortably. Allocate equal time to each subject. Discipline is the key to following the timetable meticulously.

  • Utilize the resources efficiently: Do not refer to many books. Flagged/tagged study material of reputed coaching institute and your concise shot study notes and tricks to solve seemingly difficult problems are most handy to clear the application of concepts.

  • Attempt Online Mock Tests: These tests will provide comparative as well as progressive analysis exposing the weak areas of the student which will help to plan the further path of preparation.

  • Practise various types of questions: It is the quality and not quantity that will matter. Solve quality questions of past papers.

  • Last week(s) strategy: Do intermittently quick revisions from short notes. Go through formulae and concepts at a glance of every chapter of all three subjects. Do not attempt at this stage new problems. Focus more on enhancing conceptual understanding by regular revision, test analysis of mock tests taken and corrective action.

  • Believe in yourself, work smart, stay focused with positive energy and optimism.

Q.2 How should students prepare for different subjects, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics?

Ans. It is advisable to devote equal time to all three subjects. However, more attention needs to be paid to weak topics/chapters.

Physics – Practising quality problems is the key to success in this subject. With clarity of concepts, the subject becomes interesting. Theory of every topic/concept should be mastered by a thorough study of class 11 and 12 NCERT books and book vol. I & II by H. C. Verma. It is advised not to skip any topic/chapter of any subject. However important chapters are Kinematics, Gravitation, Fluids, Heat and Thermodynamics, Waves and Sound, Capacitors and Electrostatics, Magnetics, Electromagnetic Induction, Optics and Modern Physics.

Q:   How to prepare for JEE Main from Class 11th and 12th?
A:
Starting the JEE Main preparation from class 11 or 12 is the best time. As JEE Main syllabus consists of topics from class 11 and 12, students can easily cover all the topics along with school. Students can begin by checking the topics that is covered in both school and JEE Main and give special attention to them. For all three subjects, study NCERT and also take help from reference books. Understand the concepts thoroughly and solve numerical problems. To crack JEE Main along with class 12, students should devote at least 2-3 hours for JEE beside class 12 studies. Regularly solve JEE Main mock test and solve previous year question papers to evaluate the performance.
Q:   Is one month sufficient for JEE Main preparation?
A:
One month is not sufficient for JEE Main preparation if a student has not started preparing or have not studied earlier for the exam. As the syllabus of JEE Main is vast, studying all the topics and remembering them take a lot of effort. However, class 12 student can get a decent score in JEE Main if time after the bard exam is devoted exclusively for the JEE preparation. Since most topics of JEE Main and class 12 are similar, students need to revise all the topics and solve previous year JEE Main question papers. Start solving JEE Main mock test papers at last 3-4 days before the exam to make yourself comfortable with the exam.
Q:   How can I crack JEE Main 2026?
A:

Students who are preparing for JEE Main 2026 must start their preparation by studying NCERT books. It will help in building strong foundation of concepts. Study chapters that have high weightage in JEE Mains and also topics that have been asked in recent years. In the last month before exam, solve mock tests and previous year papers.

Chemistry – Have a well-designed plan for each day ensuring its perfect execution. All three Physical, Organic and Inorganic are equally important with almost the same weightage in JEE Main.

Carefully go through chapters. Besides perfecting theory, practise numerical of Physical Chemistry. Equilibrium both Ionic and Chemical have a very important share in the paper. In Chapters like Aldehydes, Ketones and Acid, the focus is on various name reactions and their mechanisms in Organic Chemistry.

In Organic Chemistry – Focus on chapters Chemical Bonding, p-Block Elements, Coordination Chemistry and Qualitative Analysis. Memorise important things. Prepare smartly for the vast syllabus in Chemistry. Chemistry is very scoring and least time consuming of the three subjects.

Co-ordination Compounds is an easy highly conceptual chapter. This is an important chapter in fetching easy marks.

Heat and Thermodynamics is present in both Physics and Chemistry with difference only in a few rules. So doing one prepares you for both subjects.

Mathematics – Practice, Practice and Practice is the mantra. Short flagged notes and questions with twists along with formulae & concepts at a glance are very helpful. The general rule for all three subjects is don’t skip anything but spending more time on topics having more share in papers.

Important chapters are Quadratic Equations & Expressions, Complex Numbers, Probability, Vectors, Matrices in Algebra; Circle, Parabola, Hyperbola in Coordinate Geometry; Functions, Limits Continuity and Differentiability, Application of Derivatives, Definite Integral in Calculus.

Plan revisions at regular intervals especially towards the end, a few weeks before the examination.

Q.3 Students also hav their board exams in March, April. How should students plan to give their best in both Board and JEE Mains?

Ans. This is the phase when students must not only focus on scoring good marks but also perfect the art of simultaneous preparation for two major examinations of their life - Board and JEE Main. It is not difficult, since the NCERT syllabus and books of classes 11 and 12 are the foundation of JEE Main. Hence if you prepare well for Board smartly, understand the application of concepts, increase the speed and accuracy of solving JEE Main type problems, you are sure to scale both the examinations with high marks.  Here are some tips to master the simultaneous preparation of Board exams and JEE Main:

Plan a Time Table: In order to attain what you aspire for, it is vital to have the right preparation strategy and follow it strictly. Make the most of the preparation time for board exams to optimize your JEE Main preparation. Be wise & plan out a well-structured strategy that caters to the requirement of both Board exams and JEE Main preparations.

Prepare without losing Tempo: While the students are preparing for two distinct examinations, the good thing is that the syllabi are mostly common. Even the agency conducting both examinations was the same CBSE TILL 2017. Only from 2018 JEE Main is now conducted by NTA in computer mode. Sometimes due to lack of awareness and imaginary fear of not doing well by simultaneous preparation of both exams, students tend to exclusively focus on the board and start losing touch with the IIT JEE type questions. However, one must understand that if one is preparing for IIT JEE, one is automatically preparing for the Boards. The focus should be on understanding the concepts rather than mugging them up. Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics remain the same, if one has a thorough understanding of the subject, one should be comfortably able to answer the questions in both types of examinations. One should continue to take JEE type mock tests even during this period. In fact, there are some students who take JEE type tests even during the preparatory holidays and they do exceedingly well in both exams.

Divide your preparation time equally. To ensure each subject is given equal emphasis, it is better to divide your preparation time suitably. Spend equal time to revise each subject and then attempt the sample/mock and past years papers. Preparation should be a mixed basket of revision of the syllabus and taking the sample papers. This way, you will be able to revise the syllabus while taking the sample/mock/past years papers simultaneously.

Pick the right Study and revision strategy. In this phase when school students are flooded with all kinds of reference books from different publishing houses, it is vital to follow the right books without losing track. NCERT textbooks serve the best purpose for serious students. Also, use revision notes made progressively for two years of school/self-study/reputed coaching institute. At this stage of preparation with only a few months left, you can make ready reckoners/concise notes listing chapter wise formulas and key points for an in-depth understanding of concepts and tricks learnt in their application.

Get your basic concepts clear. Physics comprises three major sections – Modern, Optics and Electricity. Spend more time on sections that are challenging. Pay more attention to challenging topics in the three subjects. Do not ignore chemistry which is very high scoring with memorising/practice depending upon the section. Inorganic requires more mugging. Physical chemistry needs the practice of numerical. Past papers are a big help to know the format, distribution and type of questions asked.

Get the right temperament of exams. Preparing for two exams simultaneously needs to be done methodically and meticulously especially when it comes to getting used to the exam pattern. Be aware of the differences between the board exam paper pattern and the JEE pattern.

Attempt previous years’ papers. Practice makes a man perfect. So, attempting previous years’ test papers of Board exams and JEE Main will help you hone your skills and concepts that you are not confident about and get into the real temperament of exams.

Take mock tests. It is not too late to find out your weak areas and work accordingly to bridge that gap. Taking mock tests will acquaint you with your current preparedness and also your shortcomings. Since 2018, JEE Main is conducted in Online mode, you must join the Online test series of some prestigious institutes to give you practice and familiarity in online mode.

Don’t let your preparation take a toll on your health. Preparation for such exams requires a lot of hard work and dedication, but at the same time, you have to ensure the state of your health is in the right condition. The mental and emotional strain of long nights of hard work can take a toll on your body. Thus, it is advised to eat healthily, take small breaks in between to relax, sleep in the night for 6 to 7 hours and stay relatively stress-free in order to deliver your optimum on the exam day.

Give special emphasis to the exclusive Board type questions: There are certain sub-topics in various subjects which generally get more weightage on the Boards because the questions are subjective type. There are also some topics that are part of JEE Main but not part of the JEE Advanced exam which some students tend to ignore during their preparation. For example, in physics, the chapters on Electronic Devices and Communications Systems are part of JEE Main and the Board exam but not part of the JEE Advanced Exam. Students should carefully study these chapters along with the Questions from the Sample /mock/past years papers so that they can comfortably handle descriptive questions of Board and Multiple choice conceptual questions of IITJEE from these chapters.

A good source to prepare these chapters would be an Archive of JEE Main/ AIEEE questions of the previous years for JEE Main along with a good collection of Sample Papers for the Board.

Understand and develop the Examination Temperament: For the JEE Examination, what really matters is not only how much we know but also of how much are we able to deliver in those three hours of the examination. Many students make the mistake of attempting the questions sequentially and finding that there is not enough time left to attempt the questions that they otherwise knew how to do. One must remember that JEE is a low scoring exam. Scoring even as low as 60% marks will get a student a decent rank and fetch him a good branch in a reputed college. Rather than aiming at solving all the questions, the aim should be to attempt all the questions that you are confident of doing correctly. The best way to do this is to quickly scan the entire question paper and solve the easy questions first, then go to moderate ones and finally attempt the tough ones without losing time for the easy ones.

Remember, the grades or marks that you score in examinations do play a vital role in determining your career graph. So, stay focused on your goal & put your best foot forward to bridge the gap between your aspiration and reality. Just do your best with a positive attitude & confidence and there would be no reason for you to stumble.

Q.4 As an expert what is your advice to students for JEE Main preparation?

Ans. I will like to advise that students need not have any fear or too much anxiety since the foundation and building blocks of JEE Main are the same concepts that they have learnt in classes 11 and 12 in school. It is their application that makes the JEEM examination different from classes 11 & 12. By the practice of past years question papers and solving online test series of a reputed platform like myPAT prepared by content partners FIITJEE, the student learns the skills to solve such problems. Practice, Practice and Practice give accuracy and speed required in highly competitive examinations like JEE. This will also inculcate examination temperament which will be very helpful on the examination day.

I advise students to do Yogasanas, Pranayama and Meditation/Relaxation which will lead to a calm and relaxed state of mind.

In the examination hall taking deep breaths at the start of the paper will enable the students to land in the groove of a calm and patient mind. Students should first take up easy questions to gain confidence and then tackle questions of higher and higher levels of difficulty. Each mark counts. Hence students should not attempt black box type questions, of which they know nothing. This will avoid negative marks.

Q.5 What are the best books for JEE Main preparation?

Ans. I will advise the students to do thoroughly the study material provided by the reputed coaching institute. But they and others who are on their own can refer to the following books.

PHYSICS

    • NCERT Class 11 and 12

    • H. C. Verma Concepts of Physics Vol. I & II

Q.6. Students now have two attempts in JEE Main exam. How do you see it in terms of student’s benefits?

Ans. There are many benefits.

(i) If a student misses the examination due to ill-health or any other reason beyond control, he/she will not have to wait for a full year. Students can appear in any of or all subsequent test dates announced by NTA on the website.

(ii) In the first attempt, students get first-hand experience and come to know their weak areas which they can improve upon in subsequent attempts.

(iii) Students will have relatively less anxiety and stress in attempts which are held by NTA after the board examination.

(iv) It is always beneficial for students to take all attempts since the best score in his/her multi-attempts is considered.

Q.7. What is your advice to students who would also be appearing for other exams like BITSAT, SRM JEE, VITEE besides JEE Main?

Ans. The concepts of the three subjects are the same which are learnt in classes 11 and 12 in school. A reputed coaching institute like FIITJEE polishes and hones the skills of students to have an in-depth understanding of concepts and their applications for scaling highly competitive examinations like JEE Main, BITSAT, SRM JEE or VITEE etc.

All these examinations have in common the basic strategic activities to be followed for success.

(i) Join a well-reputed coaching institute.

(ii) For every hour of lecture in the institute of any subject, students must devote a minimum of 1 hour of self-study to assimilate the learning.

(iii) Well planned timetable covering all topics/chapters of all subjects following time management with slots for healthy entertainment/sports/hobby.

(iv) Solving papers of the past minimum of five years.

(v) Taking mock test series/sample papers.

(vi) Besides study material provided by the coaching institute going through the right important books.

(vii) Know the exam pattern and coverage of the syllabus prescribed for the examination.

(viii) Revision strategy.

Q.8. Coaching institutes and schools have been closed for most time and students’ preparation have been highly impacted. Give some advice to students to prepare for the exam on their own.

Ans. Students do not need to panic and instead should utilise the time in boosting preparation.

The following points will be of help.

(i) Draft a workable schedule: - Plan your timetable in a way that revision, learning and testing go hand in hand. Quickly run through short notes, formulas and concepts at a glance of all chapters and subjects. Give equal time to all subjects. Work to strengthen the concepts and their application by attempting mock tests and past years examination papers.

(ii) Besides self-study attends online quality teaching. There are online platforms working genuinely to provide a virtual classroom ambience with complete notes, expert guidance, online classes, mock tests etc. for optimum preparation.

(iii) Learn the conceptual application of key formulae. Students in today’s competitive environment need to learn and conceptually apply formulae in JEE main type questions. This can be further honed in revisions by solving various types of questions of past papers. By regular practice, they can increase their speed and accuracy hit rate.

(vi) Stay enthused by studying with 10-minute breaks in between serious sessions of 1 to 1.5 hours.

(v) Stay calm, focussed and determined towards your goal.
