Should MHT CET 2027 aspirants also appear for JEE Main? Know the benefits, exam pattern differences, college options and preparation strategy before applying.
Should MHT CET aspirants appear for JEE Mains 2027: Engineering aspirants in Maharashtra are currently confused between CET and JEE Main. Both the exams are held for admission to first-year engineering programmes; however, they are different in terms of scale, pattern, syllabus, eligibility and scope. Students preparing for MHT CET 2027 often wonder whether they should also appear for the JEE Mains exam. While MHT CET is an important entrance exam for engineering admissions in Maharashtra, JEE Main provides candidates with additional college options across the country.
Appearing for both exams help expand admission options. However, candidates should consider their preparation, preferred colleges, exam dates and time required to prepare for two entrances before making a decision. The National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct JEE Main 2027 for admission to undergraduate engineering programmes at NITs, IIITs, GFTIs and other participating institutions. The exam also serves as the qualifying examination for JEE Advanced.
The JEE Main 2027 registration is ongoing. The State CET Cell has yet to announce the MHT CET 2027 exam dates. Candidates must keep track of both JEE Main and MHT CET exam schedule before planning to appear for both.

Should MHT CET aspirants give JEE Main 2027?
MHT CET aspirants can consider appearing for JEE Main if they want to explore engineering colleges beyond Maharashtra. The decision depends on their academic goals and whether they can prepare for both exams. Students targeting engineering colleges in Maharashtra may prioritise MHT CET preparation while using JEE Main as an additional opportunity. Those aiming for NITs, IIITs or other participating institutions outside the state should also consider JEE Main. However, appearing for both exams does not automatically guarantee admission. Candidates must meet the eligibility requirements and admission criteria of their preferred institutions.

Check qualifying marks, age limits, and subject requirements for MHT CET and JEE Main.
MHT CET Eligibility
• Qualifying Marks: 45% aggregate in Physics, Math & 3rd subject (40% for reserved/EWS/PwD categories).
• Age Limit: No age restriction to appear.
• Exam Attempt: Passed or appearing in Class 12 / equivalent.
JEE Main Eligibility
• Passing Years: Candidates who passed Class 12 in 2025, 2026 or appearing in 2027.
• Age Limit: No age limit to appear for the exam.
• Admissions: 75% marks required in Class 12 for NITs, IIITs & GFTIs (65% for SC/ST).
Benefits of Appearing for Both MHT CET & JEE Main
1. More engineering college options
One of the main advantages of taking both exams is access to different admission routes. MHT CET is used for admissions to participating colleges in Maharashtra, while JEE Main scores are used by NITs, IIITs and other participating institutions. Students can therefore explore colleges in Maharashtra as well as institutions in other states, depending on their eligibility and the relevant counselling rules.
2. Preparation overlap
Both exams assess concepts from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics for engineering admissions. This allows students to use a common foundation for preparing for the two tests. However, candidates should not assume that the preparation strategy will be identical. They should study the official syllabus and exam pattern of each examination and practise questions accordingly.
3. An additional admission opportunity
Appearing for JEE Main gives students another examination through which they may qualify for engineering admissions. This can be useful for candidates who are uncertain about their performance in one exam or want to consider colleges outside their home state. Students should remember that admission depends on their scores, rank, category, eligibility, seat availability and the counselling process followed by the institution.
4. Experience with different question formats
Practising for two examinations can help students become familiar with different question styles and time-management requirements. Regular mock tests can also help candidates identify weak topics and improve their accuracy. Students should use this advantage carefully rather than attempting additional exams at the cost of their main preparation.

Is JEE Main More Difficult Than MHT CET?
The difficulty level can vary across examination sessions and question papers. Students should avoid assuming that one examination will necessarily be easier for every candidate. MHT CET aspirants may find that their existing preparation helps with many concepts tested in JEE Main. However, they should practise JEE Main previous-year questions and mock tests to understand its question style and time requirements. The more useful question for candidates is whether they can prepare adequately for both examinations while maintaining their performance in their primary target exam.
How Should Students Prepare for Both Exams?
Candidates planning to appear for MHT CET and JEE Main 2027 can follow these steps:
- Build a common conceptual foundation: Study Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics thoroughly, using the official syllabuses as references.
- Practise exam-specific questions: Solve previous-year papers for both examinations to understand their question styles.
- Take separate mock tests: Use JEE Main and MHT CET mock tests to practise their respective time limits and examination formats.
- Plan revision around exam dates: Check the official schedules and prepare a revision timetable that gives adequate time to each exam.
- Prioritise the main target: Students primarily aiming for Maharashtra colleges should ensure that additional JEE Main preparation does not affect their revision for MHT CET.

It is important to check the MH CET 3-year LLB marks versus percentile. This is because college admissions are based strictly on your final percentile rank rather than your raw score.

Sorry, but according to me with 96.09 percentile in MHT-CET through PCB, you cannot get admission to ICT for B.Tech Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology. The cuttoff competitively closes around 99.0 to 99.9 percentile.
