CLAT 2021 Exam Analysis by Students: Expected Cutoff, Paper Difficulty

The Consortium of NLUs successfully conducted the CLAT 2021 exam from 2:00-4:00 PM today, July 23. The exam was held in offline mode in over 80 cities across India. Strict measures were taken at every CLAT centre to ensure proper safety protocols were followed against COVID-19.

The CLAT 2021 question paper for UG courses contained 150 passage-based objective-type questions. Each question was allotted one mark weightage. There was negative marking of 0.25 marks for each incorrect answer. Check complete CLAT pattern 2021. The unofficial CLAT 2021 answer key will be available soon. However, the NLU Consortium will release the official CLAT answer in due course. 

Shiksha reported live from an exam centre in Greater Noida where approximately 1,400 students were giving the exam. Majority of the students that we spoke with shared that CLAT 2021 was of moderate difficulty level but lengthy. Check complete CLAT exam analysis 2021 by students below.

Section-Wise CLAT 2021 Difficulty Level

Know what candidates had to say about the overall and section-wise difficulty level of the CLAT 2021 exam below:

Anjali, JP International School: "I found the CLAT 2021 exam easy but quite lengthy. I took more than half an hour in attempting English comprehension questions. The Legal Reasoning and Logical Reasoning sections were good but the Quantitative Aptitude section was the easiest. I could not attempt all questions in time. There were no changes in the CLAT exam pattern this year. Overall, the paper was moderate."

Yuni Upadhyaya, NS Public School, Noida: "The difficulty of CLAT 2021 was medium. It was neither too hard nor easy. However, the time given was not sufficient to complete the exam. I could not complete all questions on time; I had to leave out some questions. According to me, GK including Current Affairs section was the most difficult. Rest all sections were good."

Shreya Singh, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Noida: "The CLAT 2021 paper was lengthy. The English section was easy but I found the GK section tough, as I had not prepared for the topics in depth. For me, the most time-taking section was Legal Reasoning and the easiest section was English. Overall, the paper was good. However, time management was a major issue. I could attempt 120 questions and left the rest 30 questions."

Smriti, Bal Bharti School: "I found the paper lengthy, especially the Legal Reasoning section, and so could not complete it on time. Quantitative Techniques was relatively easy. Overall, it was an average difficulty paper but was lengthy. As compared to previous year’s paper, I found the paper more difficult and lengthy. Most of the GK questions were related to the pandemic, so that was a plus point. For me, Legal Reasoning was the most difficult section as it took time to interpret the questions. The easiest section was Quantitative Techniques."

Saksham Gupta, Jaipuria School: "My paper went good. It was on similar lines as last year’s exam. I found the GK section a bit tough. Maths was more analytical type this year. I did Logical and Legal Reasoning sections well. Overall, the paper was moderate, not that difficult. I could complete my paper on time. In GK and Current Affairs, many questions were asked from past year news."

Prayan, Oxford Senior Secondary School: "I found the paper difficult and lengthy. For me, English and Legal Reasoning sections were good. Maths questions were the easiest. I especially found the Logical Reasoning section lengthy. In GK and Current Affairs section, there were more number of static GK questions this year. Apart from that, there were many passages on COVID-19."

Nishit Saxena, DAV Public School: "I found the CLAT paper tough. Among all the sections, I found the Logical Reasoning section the toughest.  I was able to complete my paper on time."  

Gaunranshi: "I found the CLAT 2021 exam good; in fact, the Quantitative Techniques section was very easy. If you had studied well you could have easily attempted all the questions without any problems. The English and Logical Reasoning sections were also easy but my performance in GK section did not go well as I was more focused on attempting questions from other sections. The Legal Reasoning section was also easy. Overall, the paper was moderate." talking about the measures against COVID-19, she further shared, "All the COVID-19 protocols were followed inside the exam centre. There were four empty seats between two candidates and there were only 24 candidates in one room." 

CLAT 2021 Expected Cutoff

Majority of the students that Shiksha spoke to feel that the CLAT cutoff 2021 will be high. According to Gaunranshi and Shreya, the expected CLAT cutoff is 80-85 marks. However, as per Prayan, the cutoff should go as high as 125+.
