CLAT exam eligibility is the primary condition the Consortium sets for completing the CLAT registration form. Candidates must ensure that they fulfil all the CLAT eligibility criteria because in case of any deviation, the form will be cancelled and the CLAT form fee will not be refunded.

The Consortium of National Law Universities mentioned the CLAT exam eligibility criteria on its official portal. Candidates must read, understand and comply with all the conditions given on the official portal. CLAT Exam Eligibility: The CLAT 2027 registrations started on August 3, 2026. The Consortium mentioned the CLAT exam eligibility criteria on its official portal. The candidates are advised to read, understand and fill the CLAT registration form only when they fulfil all the CLAT eligibility conditions. The last date to apply for the Common Law Admission Test is October 31. 

CLAT exam eligibility has the following components, which a candidate has to fulfil. These components are

  • Educational Qualification
  • Age Limit
  • Nationality

The candidates need to fulfil all the above criteria because, in case of any variance from the officially stated eligibility criteria, the candidature of the candidate will be cancelled and the registration form will be rejected and the CLAT form fee will not be refunded. 

Though the Consortium will soon release the CLAT application correction facility, there will be no change in the CLAT exam eligibility criteria. The CLAT 2027 exam date is December 6; hence, the candidates are advised to fill the CLAT registration form as soon as possible and concentrate their efforts on preparation for the exam.

CLAT Eligibility Criteria

National Law Universities offer the undergraduate and postgraduate courses through the Common Law Admission Test. Candidates must meet CLAT eligibility criteria for undergraduate (UG ) level law courses as mentioned below. CLAT UG eligibility is given below.

  • Candidates should clear Class 12 with a minimum 45 per cent aggregate (applicable for candidates belonging to General/ Other Backward Class/ Person with Disability/ Non-Resident Indian/ Person of Indian Origin/ Overseas Citizen of India
  • Candidates should clear Class 12 with a minimum 40 per cent aggregate (applicable for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (ST) category)
  • Candidates appearing for their Class 12 board examinations in March/April are also eligible to apply for the CLAT 2027 exam.

Q:   Can I get NLU if my CLAT Rank is 1500?
A: 

Yes, with a CLAT Rank of 1500, you have a very good chance of getting into several good NLUs. Some fo the NLU where your chances are high are NLIU Bhopal or NLU Jodhpur.

Q:   How many merit list will be released by the Consortium?
A: 

The Consortium will release atleast five merit list to complete the admission process through CLAT Score. However, the number of merit list might change in case of some discrepancy in answer key or result.

Q:   Can I get admission in NLUs without clearing CLAT Exam?
A: 

No you can not get admission to 26 participating NLUs without clearing CLAT Exam. For admission to NLU Delhi, you need to clear AILET Exam. 

Q:   What factors are considered while deciding the CLAT Cutoff?
A: 

The CLAT Cutoff is decided by following factors

  • Exam Difficulty
  • Number of Applicants
  • Seat Availability
  • Reservation Policy
  • Domicile Quota

The candidates should note that the Consortium can change any of the CLAT exam eligibility criteria through an official notification.

CLAT Exam Eligibility For PG

The eligibility requirements for the CLAT PG exam is different from UG exam. Candidates must ensure that they meet the required CLAT PG Eligibility Criteria to apply for LLM Programs. Check CLAT eligibility after graduation below.

  • Candidates belonging to SC/ ST category should possess an LLB or equivalent degree with a minimum of 45 per cent aggregate
  • Candidates appearing for the final year examination of their qualifying degree are also eligible to apply for CLAT

NLUs Admission Criteria 2027

CLAT exam is conducted to select the candidates for undergraduate and postgraduate courses offered by all NLUs except NLU, Delhi. Only those candidates who meet the CLAT Cutoff Score 2027 will be eligible to appear in the counselling process. Each NLU has its own reservation policy. Those who are applying for admission under the domicile category must ensure they do have all the required documents. All the documents will be verified during the counselling process.

Q:   What does CLAT cutoff mean?
A: 

The CLAT cutoff means the minimum rank or score required to get admission into a National Law University (NLU). Candidates must get the cutoff to participate in the counselling process.

Q:   How will I know if I am eligible to appear in CLAT exam or not?
A: 

In order to know if you are eligible or not check the official notification and the eligibility criteria. There is no other way to check the the eligibility criteria.  Do not fill the form without checking the eligibility criteria. 

Q:   How many times I can appear for CLAT Exam?
A: 

There is no restriction as such for the CLAT exam. Thus, one can give CLAT any number of times they want to. Candidates should not feel bad if they are not able to clear the CLAT exam in first time. 

Q:   What if I am not satisfied with the CLAT seat allotment?
A: 

If the candidates is not satisfied with the CLAT seat allotment result, they can either accept or opt for upgradingt the college alloted. The Freeze option is used by candidates to confirm their choice of NLU. Apply for upgrade option is used when candidates want to change the allotted institute to his or her higher choice (upward shifting).

How to fill CLAT Registration Form 2027?

Candidates must check all the important steps before filling the CLAT Registration Form. To begin with, candidates will have to register on the Consortium website, complete the application form, upload the documents and pay the fees. To understand it properly, check below

  • Registration
    • Go to consortiumofnlus.ac.in

    • Click on the CLAT Exam 2027 tab

    • Select register

    • Enter your name, mobile number & email ID

    • Verify your mobile number using the OTP sent to your phone

    • Create password

    • Click on the Register button to complete the process

  • Personal & Academic Details
    • Re-login using your registered mobile number & password
    • Choose the course
    • Fill your information like Name, DOB, Parents' name
    • Select category
    • Enter your communication details
    • Fill your academic details
  • Test Centers and Reservations
  • Select your choice of test center locations
  • Enter your state domicile to claim state reservation
  • Upload documents
    • Candidates will have to upload certain documents in scanned format. Check the list here
    • Front-facing passport-size recent photograph with a plain background
    • Signature (black/blue ink on white paper)
    • Category certificate, if applicable.
    • PwD or BPL certificate, if valid
  • Payment and Submission Form

Yes, CLAT is not required in any law college in Ludhiana. Entrance exams for law admissions are based on state and private university levels.

Yes, the Consortium removed two Test Cities from the CLAT 2027.  The removed test cities are Vellore and Tiruvarur. CLAT 2027 exam date is December 6.

Candidates are required to pay the CLAT Registration/Form fee as per their category. The Consortium prescribed the category-wise form fee. Without submitting the CLAT form fee, the registration will not be completed.

No, a domicile certificate is not mandatory for all candidates. It is only required if you intend to claim a reservation/ seat under state quota (offered by specific NLUs). Students can skip this document if they are applying solely under the All-India open category.

No, candidates who fulfill OP Jindal Global University BBA LLB (hons) eligibility criteria cannot apply with a CLAT-UG score. This institute only accepts admission based on LNAT-UK exam. No other entrance exams are accepted during admissions to this course.

CLAT does not give a fixed number for grammar. The exam is fully passage-based. Grammar is tested inside English Language, which carries around 20% weightage.
