The Consortium of National Law Universities frames the CLAT exam eligibility criteria as per the recommendations received from the NLUs. The Consortium released the CLAT exam schedule on July 22 and following the schedule, the CLAT 2027 registration and applications were released. Candidates should read and understand all the eligibility conditions and fill the application only when they confirm all the eligibility conditions, to avoid the cancellation of the application. CLAT Exam Eligibility: The National Law Universities formed their Consortium to conduct the Common Law Admission Test every year to select the candidates for their Law Courses. The Consortium notifies the CLAT exam eligibility on its portal with the release of the CLAT 2027 registration form. Candidates are advised to read these eligibility conditions and ensure that they fulfil all of them. CLAT applications started on August 3 and the last date to apply online for CLAT 2027 is October 31.

Candidates are advised to fill the application only when they are satisfied that they fulfil all the CLAT eligibility conditions. If they do not meet any of the CLAT eligibility criteria, their application will be rejected, and the application fee will be forfeited. The CLAT eligibility has three components, which are shown below:

- Nationality
Candidates must comply with all the above three criteria to appear in the exam; otherwise, their application will be rejected, and the CLAT form fee will not be refunded. . There was no change in the CLAT exam eligibility criteria this year; only a minor change was made in the application form. As per the official exam schedule, the CLAT 2027 exam date is December 6, 2026.

CLAT Eligibility Criteria
National Law Universities offer the undergraduate and postgraduate courses through the Common Law Admission Test. Candidates must meet CLAT eligibility criteria for undergraduate (UG ) level law courses as mentioned below. CLAT UG eligibility is given below.

The candidates should note that the Consortium can change any of the CLAT exam eligibility criteria through an official notification.
Commonly asked questions
Yes, with a CLAT Rank of 1500, you have a very good chance of getting into several good NLUs. Some fo the NLU where your chances are high are NLIU Bhopal or NLU Jodhpur.
The Consortium will release atleast five merit list to complete the admission process through CLAT Score. However, the number of merit list might change in case of some discrepancy in answer key or result.
No you can not get admission to 26 participating NLUs without clearing CLAT Exam. For admission to NLU Delhi, you need to clear AILET Exam.

NLUs Admission Criteria 2027
CLAT exam is conducted to select candidates for undergraduate and postgraduate courses offered by all NLUs except NLU, Delhi. Only those candidates who meet the CLAT Cutoff Score 2027 will be eligible to appear in the counselling process. Each NLU has its own reservation policy. Those who are applying for admission under the domicile category must ensure they do have all the required documents. All the documents will be verified during the counselling process.

The CLAT cutoff means the minimum rank or score required to get admission into a National Law University (NLU). Candidates must get the cutoff to participate in the counselling process.
In order to know if you are eligible or not check the official notification and the eligibility criteria. There is no other way to check the the eligibility criteria. Do not fill the form without checking the eligibility criteria.
There is no restriction as such for the CLAT exam. Thus, one can give CLAT any number of times they want to. Candidates should not feel bad if they are not able to clear the CLAT exam in first time.
If the candidates is not satisfied with the CLAT seat allotment result, they can either accept or opt for upgradingt the college alloted. The Freeze option is used by candidates to confirm their choice of NLU. Apply for upgrade option is used when candidates want to change the allotted institute to his or her higher choice (upward shifting).
