XAT is a tough management entrance to crack for any student and many of them become confused with the huge pile of the syllabus before them. However, Tata Subramanian shares a few key tips to ensure that you understand the nature of XAT entrance test and keep your preparation on track.
XAT is rated amongst the toughest exams to crack and some even consider it tougher than CAT in terms of decision making and quantitative aptitude sections. But a sound preparation strategy and regular mock test practice can help you face the exam with ease. With just a few days left around for XAT 2020, here are some tips to guide with last-minute XAT preparation.
- How many mock tests to take and when
Honestly, there is no fixed or magical number to choose from. Since there are only a few days left and each mock test would consist of 3 hours, I would recommend taking one mock test each day. In fact, you need not take mock tests on a penultimate day and then relax on your mind rather than starting with new topics.
Another important thing is to analyse your mock test performance to identify your strong areas and concepts that require further revision. Don’t stress too much about working out your weak areas at this point in time. Your main objective from these mock tests is to avoid questions that belong to your weaker topics and solving accurately those questions that belong to your strong areas.
- Minimum number of questions to be attempted in the exam
Based on the previous year cut off, it is clear that cut-offs for XAT are typically low. Hence, you can focus on accuracy and selecting the right questions rather than attempting all the questions. The higher the number of your correct questions, the better the chances of receiving a call letter from the top colleges accepting XAT scores.
- Common Mistakes to watch out for
- Don’t attempt questions that you are not sure about. The negative mark is 0.25 for every wrong answer and if the number of questions not attempted exceeds eight, the penalty is 0.10.
- Don’t fret over a question if you are not able to solve even though it belongs to your strong areas. It is better to leave that question for the time being and come back later if the time permits.
- How can you maximize your score
The ultimate objective for all the students appearing in XAT 2020 is obtaining a high score in XAT 2020 and securing admission in any of their preferred institutions. Follow the tactics below to maximize your XAT score:
- Prepare for latest current affairs, it will come handy during GK section and can boost your score
- Improve your question selection, focus on easy ones and avoid the time-consuming ones
There is always more ground to cover when you are preparing for an entrance test such as XAT. However, going for too many topics with a very limited amount of time at hand can only create more chaos and confusion in your mind.
