How much XAT exam score will fetch you 99+ percentile? What is the difference between XAT score and XAT percentile? What is XAT percentile predictor? To crack the XAT 2023 exam, you need to know these. So, read below.

XAT score vs percentile

XAT Score vs Percentile - 'What is XAT percentile and how is it different from XAT score?', 'How can I predict my XAT percentile?' These are the most frequently asked questions by MBA aspirants. Many students often confuse between the two and that hurts them at the time of XAT result or college selection. It is very crucial to know how many correct attempts will lead to how much XAT score and what will be the corresponding percentile. Why? Because, without the knowledge of difference between these two, you wouldn't be able to optiimise your number of attempts in the exam.

For example, if a student manages to solve 75 out of 100 questions correctly in XAT exam, he must know what will be his raw XAT score and final percentile. This knowledge will help the candidate to devise such a XAT preparation strategy that will help them to score above 95 percentile which is the XLRI admission cut off.

To help the XAT 2023 aspirants in this regard, we have explained the meanings, definitions and calculation methods of XAT score and percentile. We have also listed XAT cut off percentiles of previous years.

What is XAT Score?

XAT score refers to the raw score obtained by a candidate in the exam based on the total number of correct and incorrect attempts. Let’s take a look at the XAT marking scheme to understand this:

  • Total number of questions is 100
  • Total marks of XAT exam is 100
  • For every correct attempt, one mark is awarded
  • For every incorrect answer, 0.25 marks are deducted
  • After eight consecutive unattempted questions, 0.10 marks are deducted for every unattempted question
  • There is no negative marking in General Knowledge section

Based on the above marking scheme, if a candidate attempts about 85 questions out of 100, out of which he solves 75 questions correctly and 10 questions incorrectly, then his overall XAT score will be 75 - (1-0.25x10) = 82.5.

What is XAT Percentile?

XAT percentile is basically the rank of a candidate against all the test takers. It is also be described as the total percentage of candidates who scored less than or equal to a particular candidate.

For example, if a candidate’s XAT percentile is 99.7, it means his/her performance was better than 99.7 per cent of the total XAT test takers that year. Thus, one can say, that XAT percentile is the indicator of a candidate’s performance in comparison to all the test takers.

How is XAT Percentile Calculated?

The formula to calculate XAT percentile is same as that of other MBA entrance exams, i.e. Number of candidates – Rank of a candidate/Number of candidates x 100. Let’s understand this with an example.

Suppose, 10,000 people appeared for XAT exam and candidate A got the highest score. It means 9,999 candidates have scored less than candidate A. Then XAT percentile of candidate A will be 9,999/10,000x100= 99.9.

Xavier's Aptitude Test is highly scored in the Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation section and so is Common Admission Test.
