Shift NEET UG Tending at Twitter; Know Students' Demands

NEET 2021 aspirants have been demanding postponement of the exam from the scheduled date of September 12 for various reasons. One of the main reasons is the clash of NEET 2021 with other major entrance exams such as the CBSE Improvement exam, ICAR AIEEA, MHT CET, to name a few. A number of NEET 2021 aspirants are also planning to take other national level entrance exams and the scheduling of these exams with NEET is creating a hindrance in their preparation and plan of action.

While the initial reaction of NEET aspirants after the exam date announcement was that of relief. But their sense of relief was soon replaced with anxiety as soon as they discovered that the other exams they are planning to write are scheduled around September 12.

#ShiftNEETUG, #PostponeNEETUG Trending on Social Media

In a bid to raise their concerns and to draw attention towards the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the Ministry of Education, students are trending the hashtags like #ShiftNEETUG and #PostponeNEETUG on the social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook. Sample some of the tweets below.

Students want the officials to clarify on the current scenario of NEET 2021 further.

Why Are Students Demanding Deferment of NEET 2021?

Apart from the clash in the entrance exam, there are few other reasons which have led students to demand #ShiftNEETUG.

New exam pattern: The NEET 2021 exam pattern or the structure has been changed and the announcement was made merely two months before the exam. This has caused huge confusion and anxiety among aspirants. Even the OMR sheet filling instruction has been released less than a month before the exam. Candidates are demanding a shift in NEET 2021 so that they can get better accustomed to the new paper structure.

Pandemic situation not over yet: Even though the number of COVID-19 cases has reduced, the virus has not been eradicated yet. People are still getting infected and hence are in a vulnerable situation if they are bound to get exposed in a public gathering, despite taking necessary precautionary measures. The vaccination process for people below 18 years of age has not started yet and a lot of NEET takers are below 18. The risk factor for them is even higher.

The academic session will not be much impacted: According to the candidates, postponing NEET 2021 by two to three weeks will not bring much delay in the academic session since even the previous academic session commenced in February 2021 and the exam was conducted twice, in September and October (for COVID infected candidates who could not appear on the original exam date).

The NEET 2021 admit card is expected to be released on or before September 9. The exam will be conducted in 202 cities across India and abroad for a duration of three hours. The mode of the exam is paper-pencil based and NEET 2021 will be conducted in 13 languages.
