NIOS 10th Admit Card 2026 for practical exam is out. NIOS will release the NIOS 10th Admit Card 2026 for theory exam April session on the official website in March 2026. The NIOS will declare the NIOS 10th result 2026 in June 2026. All the candidates who appeared for the examinations must visit the official website of NIOS to check their results by using their respective enrolment numbers. NIOS provides a second-chance to the students who want to improve their performance by giving the NIOS 10th Improvement exams. A student can appear for compartment exam only once during the admission period (5 years).

NIOS Class 10 Highlights

The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) conducts NIOS Class 10th exam 2 times yearly. Block 1 is in March-April. Block 2 is held in October. NIOS Class 10 exams are conducted for a total of three hours, from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm

The NIOS 10th examinations are conducted in April for Block-I and in October for Block-II. 

NIOS gives the choice in the medium of instruction to the students at the secondary stage: Hindi, English, Urdu, Marathi, Telugu, Gujarati, Malayalam, Tamil, Odia, and Punjabi. The open school provides nine chances to the learners to appear in the public examinations over a period of five years to complete the course.

NIOS Class 10 Syllabus 2026

Students must go through the NIOS 10th Syllabus 2026 carefully and chalk out the study schedule accordingly. Students must keep in mind that the NIOS syllabus for Class 10th is the same for public and on-demand exams. It is mandatory for the students to appear in a minimum of 5 subjects. They can choose a maximum of 2 additional subjects along with the mandatory ones.

NIOS 10th Admission 2026

The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) released the schedule for the NIOS 10th registration process and payment of exam fee for April/May 2026 public exams. Students can check the NIOS 10th application form page for more details. For learners enrolled in stream I, Block I, and for eligible learners for exams before Oct-Nov 2025 exams, could register from November 21 to December 20, 2025 without late fee. They could register with a late fee of INR 100 per subject from December 21 to December 31, 2025. With a consolidated late fee of INR 1500 per learner, the registration could be done from January 1 to January 10, 2026.

The NIOS 10th admissions take place twice a year, Block-I in April, while the Block-II admissions take place in October, every year. The dates usually remain the same every year. The NIOS Admissions for Class 10th for Block-I commenced on March 16, 2025 and conclude on September 15, 2025. The next admission cycle, which is for Block-II began on September 16, 2025 and end on March 15, 2026.

NIOS 10th Exam Pattern 2026

NIOS 10th exam includes subjects from Group A and Group B. The total exam duration is three hours, while for the subjects having practicals, it is 2.5 hours and 3 hours for theory and practicals, respectively. The maximum marks for each of the exams is 100. Students must check the complete NIOS 10th exam pattern to have a detailed view of the NIOS 10th exams 2025.

A learner is required to pass in a minimum of five subjects including one or a maximum of two languages from Group 'A' and other three or four subjects from Group 'B'. However, a learner has the advantage of taking up to two additional subjects and thus can choose a maximum of seven subjects at the secondary level.

NIOS 10th Eligibility

To apply for the Secondary courses at NIOS, a learner needs to meet the following criteria:

  • Students should have cleared class 8th and have valid proof of attaining 14 years of age can apply for registration to the Secondary Course.
  • Age of the student should be minimum 14 years.
  • A learner giving a self-certificate “I have studied enough to be able to pursue secondary course” is also eligible for admission to the Secondary Course.
  • A learner who had studied at the secondary level elsewhere can also seek admission either to complete the course or improve performance.

NIOS 10th Passing Criteria

Students should score 33% of the total marks for passing the NIOS Class 10 exam. For NIOS 10th, students should score 33% in the practical and theory exams. Else they will be considered as failed.

Q:   Can I join regular school for 11th, after my NIOS 10th?
A: 

Yes, the NIOS 10th board exam is equivalent to the CBSE, ICSE and other state boards. Students can join regular school for 11th after successful completion of NIOS 10th board exam. 

Q:   What if there are any errors in my NIOS 10th admit card?
A: 

In case of any errors in NIOS 10th admit card 2026, students must report to the higher authorities. They should get it rectified as early as possible. Students are advised to verify the details in the NIOS 12th admit card. If errors are not corrected, they will not be allowed to appear for the exam. There should not be any spelling mistake in the student details.

Q:   Can we attempt both questions, if a choice is given to attempt any one of the questions in the Class 10 board exam?
A: 

The students should read the guidelines given on Class 10 board exam question paper. Doing both options will take time. So they should read the questions and the answer should be written for the one they know well.

Q:   Which courses can I pursue after class 10th?
A: 

Students can join for Plus two course after the 10th grade. Those who do not wish to go for 12th can join for Diploma engineering courses, ITI, poly technic courses, Diploma in hotel management, Diploma in fashion technology, Diploma in pharmacy etc. Even though there are so many Diploma courses, students are advised to complete 12th grade and then join degree course for better career growth. 

Q:   When a student drops one year, what is the syllabus applicable for the following Class 10 board exam of next year?
A: 

If a students drops one year, he or she will have to learn syllabus given by board. They can take help from their teachers for 10th board syllabus. They can download syllabus from official website of board.

Q:   Can I join BTech, if I do not join 12th?
A: 

You can join for B.Tech course through lateral entry. After your 10th, you can join for 3 year Govt authorized Polytechnic Diploma course. Polytechnic course is a 3 year Diploma programme in fields like electronics, electrical engineering, civil, mechanical etc. Once you successfully complete Polytechnic course, you can appear for the Lateral entry entrance test. Thus you can join in the second year or 3rd semester of the regular BTech course in engineering colleges.

Q:   What are the different ways of checking the NIOS Class 10th Result 2026?
A: 

There are three ways in which a student can check NIOS 10th result 2026. These modes are official website, Digilocker, and SMS. For first two modes, candidates need Internet connectivity. For third mode, they just need a functional mobile number. To check NIOS 10th result online, students have to visit official result portal of NIOS. Results. NIOS. AC. In. Then they have to enter enrollment number and captcha and click on submit.

Q:   Can a NIOS aspirant choose any subject combination?
A: 

Students have the option to choose subjects of their choice from the list given on NIOS website. The NIOS Class 10 subjects are divided into two. They are Group A and Group B. Students at the Secondary level need to take a minimum of 5 subjects, including at least one language, and no more than 2 languages. They can take a maximum of 7 subjects.
