Preparation Tips for NIOS Class 10th exams

Below are some NIOS Preparation Tips that will help the students in better preparation for the NIOS 10th exams

  1. Make a time table: Making a study schedule helps in covering each subject and the important topics.  Students need to also analyse the marking scheme to prioritize your topics. Do not leave this for the last moment. Every subject must be allotted time according to this priority list. Allot more time to tough subjects and less to an easier one. Take a timely break in between. A well-rested mind focuses better.  Keep all this in mind while preparing your timetable. Proper time management will keep you stress-free.
  2. Solve previous years’ papers: Solving previous years’ NIOS 10th question papers prepares the students in completing the paper on time. This helps students to know the NIOS 10th exam pattern.
  3. Make notes: Make notes while learning figures, formulae and important points. It helps in learning faster and notes come handy in revision.
  4. Stay motivated: Motivating yourself while studying at home can be challenging. So, students must stick to their study plan and keep themselves motivated.
  5. Turn to guidebooks: While general reading works for subjects like sociology, mass communication and psychology, for subjects like Science and Math, students need to solve previous years’ question papers. Students can resort to guidebooks for additional practice on such questions and papers.
  6. Pick NIOS textbooks: They are considered the best source of study material. These textbooks come in almost 5-6 months after the course begins.  They are available online on the NIOS website.
  7. Tutor Marked Assignment (TMA): These have 20% weightage in the finals and these will help you pass the exam with a higher score.
  8. Attend Personal Contact Program (PCP) classes: These are dedicated classes for solving doubts. Students can attend these classes to clear their doubts.
  9. Keep your answer paper neat: Answer in the form of points or if it is in an essay form, underline the important points. A neatly written paper can better your score. Begin with questions you know to create a good impression. Answer questions you are unsure about in the end.
  10. Create an atmosphere to study: Choose a place where you can study with complete concentration, where there are no distractions like the TV, loud noise. Avoid multitasking. When you sit to study, just study. Don’t try to watch TV at the same time. You also need to choose a  time either early morning or late at night when the surroundings are silent and you can focus. Surround yourself with positive energy vibes and atmosphere.
  11. Pay attention to your posture: Sit in a manner which helps you concentrate. Never sit on a bed or lie down and study. Keep your back straight, legs parallel to the ground and lower but not on the ground as it causes ionization which induces sleep.
  12. Time-out: Relax and calm your mind a few minutes before the exam. Take a deep breath and believe in yourself. This would help the students in gaining confidence.
  13. Be smart with languages: Devote at least one and half hour for languages. Scoring is tough here, so study accordingly.  Practice grammar and letter formats. Read and write a lot of essays, applications, speeches and letters.
  14. Practice math: If you aim at scoring 100 in mathematics, solve all the sample question papers. In addition, as many board papers of previous years. Understand your syllabus. Learn graphs and figures.
  15. Perfect your diagrams, formulae and equations: In science do not ignore diagrams, definitions and numerical. In chemistry do not ignore the equations and formulae. In physics master theorems and formulae. In biology, learn names, diagrams and processes.
  16. Create a structure for Social Science: History and civics questions are always clubbed together. Prioritise your topics accordingly and divide focus between long and short answers. For geography, study and revise topography and maps.
