NIOS Class 10 exam 2025: The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) has started the registration process for the NIOS 10th public exam April-May 2026. NIOS released the rescheduled dates for the cancelled exam. NIOS 10th Urdu, Sanskrit, Bodh Darshan, Indian Sign Language will be conducted on November 29, 2025 only in Bihar state. NIOS 10th English exam will be held on December 1, 2025 only in Bihar State and Nuapada Assembly constituency of Odisha State. Painting for NIOS Class 10 will be held on December 2, 2025 for all India. NIOS began conducting the NIOS 10th Exam 2025 on October 14, 2025. NIOS exam 2025 will be held till December 2, 2025. NIOS had cancelled the Class 10th theory examination scheduled for November 6, 2025. NIOS 10th time table 2025 was released on September 19, 2025.

The NIOS 10th practical exam time table 2025 is released on the official website. NIOS 10th practical exam was conducted from September 12 to 27, 2025. NIOS 10th time table 2025 October exam is released on the official website - sdmis.nios.ac.in. The NIOS 10th hall ticket 2025 is released at sdmis.nios.ac.in/search/hall-ticket. NIOS 10th result 2025 will be released in January 2026 tentatively.

NIOS Class 10 Highlights

The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) conducts NIOS Class 10th exam 2 times yearly. Block 1 is in March-April. Block 2 is held in October. NIOS Class 10 exams are conducted for a total of three hours, from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm

The NIOS 10th examinations are conducted in April for Block-I and in October for Block-II. 

NIOS gives the choice in the medium of instruction to the students at the secondary stage: Hindi, English, Urdu, Marathi, Telugu, Gujarati, Malayalam, Tamil, Odia, and Punjabi. The open school provides nine chances to the learners to appear in the public examinations over a period of five years to complete the course.

NIOS 10th Admission 

The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) released the schedule for the NIOS 10th registration process and payment of exam fee for April/May 2026 public exams. Students can check the NIOS 10th application form page for more details. For learners enrolled in stream I, Block I, and for eligible learners for exams before Oct-Nov 2025 exams, could register from November 21 to December 20, 2025 without late fee. They could register with a late fee of INR 100 per subject from December 21 to December 31, 2025. With a consolidated late fee of INR 1500 per learner, the registration could be done from January 1 to January 10, 2026.

The NIOS 10th admissions take place twice a year, Block-I in April, while the Block-II admissions take place in October, every year. The dates usually remain the same every year. The NIOS Admissions for Class 10th for Block-I commenced on March 16, 2025 and conclude on September 15, 2025. The next admission cycle, which is for Block-II began on September 16, 2025 and end on March 15, 2026.

NIOS 10th Exam Pattern

NIOS 10th exam includes subjects from Group A and Group B. The total exam duration is three hours, while for the subjects having practicals, it is 2.5 hours and 3 hours for theory and practicals, respectively. The maximum marks for each of the exams is 100. Students must check the complete NIOS 10th exam pattern to have a detailed view of the NIOS 10th exams 2025.

A learner is required to pass in a minimum of five subjects including one or a maximum of two languages from Group 'A' and other three or four subjects from Group 'B'. However, a learner has the advantage of taking up to two additional subjects and thus can choose a maximum of seven subjects at the secondary level.

To apply for the Secondary courses at NIOS, a learner needs to meet the following criteria:

  • Students should have cleared class 8th and have valid proof of attaining 14 years of age can apply for registration to the Secondary Course.
  • Age of the student should be minimum 14 years.
  • A learner giving a self-certificate “I have studied enough to be able to pursue secondary course” is also eligible for admission to the Secondary Course.
  • A learner who had studied at the secondary level elsewhere can also seek admission either to complete the course or improve performance.

Q:   What is the exam pattern of NIOS 10th grade?

The grading of subjects is made of two parts, Tutor Marked Assignments, or TMAs and the final examinations. For subjects without practicals, such as the Group A subjects, TMAs account for 20% of the grade. The final exam for most subjects will be for 3 hours. However, a few subjects, such as Home Science, have an exam duration of 2.5 hours. Students should refer to the NIOS exam pattern before starting the preparation for the NIOS 10th exams. This will help them to know the marking scheme. Thus students can prepare accordingly.

Q:   What is the grading pattern of NIOS 10th exam?
A: 

NIOS 10th Result range from A to E. A grade is given for 80% and above. Grade B is given for 60% to 79%. C Grade is given for 40% to 59%. D Grade is given for 33% to 39%. E Grade is given for below 33%.

You can reevaluate your NIOS 10th exam answer sheet. The fees for revaluation is INR 800 per subject. Students who wish to apply for re-checking of their NIOS Result 10th Class 2023 will be able to apply within 15 days after the declaration of the result. Application fee for re-checking result has to be paid online. Students can find NIOS notification regarding the revaluation of answer sheet on the official website, after the release of the result.

The M and M Unit, Department of Evaluation, NIOS prepares the NIOS class 10 and NIOS Class 12 marksheet. NIOS Marksheet will be issued to successful students only. They have to visit the respective Accredited Institute (AIs) soon after the NIOS Result 2023 Class 10 and NIOS Result 2023 Class 12, to collect their mark sheets. Students will receive the original mark sheet 6 months after the NIOS results. There is a provision for students to get the NIOS duplicate Marksheet. Once the NIOS Result 2023 is announced online, NIOS will send the original mark sheet alongside the documents such as Migration Certificate and Pass Certificate to the candidates address by post.
Q:   How shall I appear for the NIOS Class 10 improvement exam?

Candidates who are unable to secure pass marks in the NIOS Class 10 exam have to appear for the improvement exam or the Compartment exam. They have to apply for the same by paying the exam fee. In case the subject has both theory and practical parts, then the student has to take both the theory and practical exams. The application form for NIOS Improvement exams will be available on the official website. The NIOS board will release notification regarding the improvement exam after the release of the NIOS 10th result.
Q:   Which courses can I pursue after class 10th?

Students can join for Plus two course after the 10th grade. Those who do not wish to go for 12th can join for Diploma engineering courses, ITI, poly technic courses, Diploma in hotel management, Diploma in fashion technology, Diploma in pharmacy etc. Even though there are so many Diploma courses, students are advised to complete 12th grade and then join degree course for better career growth. 

Q:   When a student drops one year, what is the syllabus applicable for the following Class 10 board exam of next year?

If students have any doubt in the syllabus, they can contact their school. They can take help from their teachers for the 10th board syllabus, They can also download the syllabus from the official website of the respective board.

Q:   Is the NIOS 10th Result 2025 Date out?
A: 

No, NIOS will not publish the NIOS 10th result date 2025. NIOS 10th result October 2025 will be released in January 2026 tentatively. NIOS result 2025 Class 10 will be published on the official website results.nios.ac.in/

Q:   Does NIOS release previous year question papers?
A: 

NIOS releases the previous year question papers on the official website nios.ac.in/. Students can visit the NIOS website to download the NIOS previous year question papers. Click on the student information section. Then select the Question Paper of Previous year Examination-Academic. Download and save the required NIOS previous year question papers.

Q:   What are the benefits of solving NIOS sample papers?
A: 

Solving the NIOS sample papers will help students to improve their speed of solving the questions. It will also help them to be familiar with the type of questions asked for the NIOS exam. It will help them to experience the real time scenario of the NIOS exam and thus attend the board exam in a stress free manner. In addition, it helps students to achieve better results. It will also improve their confidence to face the NIOS exam.

Q:   Can I join BTech, if I do not join 12th?
A: 

You can join for B.Tech course through lateral entry. After your 10th, you can join for 3 year Govt authorized Polytechnic Diploma course. Polytechnic course is a 3 year Diploma programme in fields like electronics, electrical engineering, civil, mechanical etc. Once you successfully complete Polytechnic course, you can appear for the Lateral entry entrance test. Thus you can join in the second year or 3rd semester of the regular BTech course in engineering colleges.

Q:   What if there are any errors in my NIOS 10th admit card?
A: 

In case of any errors in NIOS 10th admit card 2025, students must report to the higher authorities. They should get it rectified as early as possible. Students are advised to verify the details in the NIOS 12th admit card. If errors are not corrected, they will not be allowed to appear for the exam. There should not be any spelling mistake in the student details.

Q:   Does NIOS Board cut marks for exceeding the word limit?
A: 

No, NIOS Board does not deduct marks for exceeding the word limit in the board exams. However, marks may be deducted for spelling mistakes and other errors in language papers. 

Q:   Will there be out of syllabus questions in the NIOS 10th board exam question papers?
A: 

Chances are less for out of syllabus questions in NIOS 10th board exam question papers. NIOS 10th board exams 2026 will be based on 100% NIOS 10th syllabus. If any questions are out of syllabus, students will be awarded the marks for it.
