IIT Roorkee Hosts Training Workshop on Multi-Millet Dehusking Innovation

IIT Roorkee’s HRED RuTAG organised a training-cum-workshop on the Multi-Millet Dehusking Machine, focusing on enhancing millet processing efficiency and promoting sustainable agricultural technology.
Rural Technology Action Group (RuTAG) IIT Roorkee organised a Training-cum-Workshop on the Multi-Millet Dehusking Machine to promote efficient millet processing techniques. The event brought together NGOs, including Parvatiya Jan Siksha Evam Vikash Sangthan (Himachal Pradesh), Uttaranchal Youth and Rural Development Centre (Uttarakhand), Bhilangna Valley Producer Co. Ltd (FPO), and Balaji Sewa Sansthan (Dehradun), alongside farmers, researchers, entrepreneurs, and industry experts.
The workshop provided hands-on training on the machine’s working principles, operational procedures, and maintenance. Designed to enhance dehusking efficiency for millet grains such as finger millet (ragi), foxtail millet (kagni), barnyard millet (samwa), and kodo millet, the machine minimizes grain breakage and improves processing quality. This innovation serves as a crucial asset for small-scale millet processors and rural entrepreneurs, fostering sustainable agricultural practices.
Prof. Sunil Kumar Singal, Principal Investigator at RuTAG IIT Roorkee, welcomed the participants and emphasized the crucial role of millet processing in enhancing food security and nutrition. He highlighted the need to promote millet-based technologies to support sustainable agricultural practices. The interactive workshop was well received, with participants expressing enthusiasm for adopting the technology in their respective fields. A special session was dedicated to addressing the challenges faced by millet growers and processors, fostering a collaborative approach toward technological advancements in the sector.
Talking about the event, Prof. K.K. Pant, Director, IIT Roorkee, said, "I am extremely proud of the initiative taken by RuTAG IIT Roorkee. The Training-cum-Workshop on the Multi-Millet Dehusking Machine is a significant step in our commitment to advancing rural technologies and sustainable agricultural practices. By improving millet processing techniques, we are not only enhancing food security and nutritional outcomes but also empowering rural entrepreneurs and farmers."
