On Admissions
Q:   How can I get admission to IIT Madras for BTech?
A:

Admission to the BTech courses offered by IIT Madras are entrance-based and done on the basis of scores obtained in JEE Mains and JEE Advanced. Seats are allocated through JoSAA counselling after the results of the entrance exams are out. Students who clear the IIT Madras BTech cutoff are then required to go through document verification and pay the required fees to complete the process.

Q:   Do I need to apply separately on IIT Madras website after JoSAA counselling?
A:

No, one does not have to apply separately at IIT Madras website after JoSAA counselling. This is because the institute follows a common admission process for its BTech course just like the other IITs. Shortlisted students who get a seat through the JoSAA counselling, simply need to report for document verification and pay the acceptance fees. All the details of the students will be forwarded to IIT Madras by JoSAA directly. Information about the orientation, fee payment, and hostel allocation will be mailed online.

Q:   How can I get admission in IIT Madras?
A:

To seek admission to the BTech programme offered at IIT Madras, candidates need to visit the official website of the National Testing Agency (NTA) and fill out the application form in online mode for JEE Main. For other courses such as MSc, MTech, BS-MS (Dual Degree) etc., candidates must visit the official website of the respective national-level entrance exam conducting bodies and fill out the application form in online mode. IIT Madras admission to most of the courses is entrance-based.

Q:   How can I get admission in IIT Madras for MBA?
A:

IIT Madras MBA admission is based on candidates' performance in CAT, conducted by IIMs. Students seeking admission can apply online by visiting the official website of CAT. The final admission is granted based on CAT score, past academic record, work experience, performance in PI round, academic diversity, gender diversity and other achievements (if any). The best campus in India, and very good.
Placements: Around 80% of people go for higher studies in India and abroad. The highest package offer is 42LPA, and the lowest is around 6 to 7LPA. Top recruiters included TCS, Wipro, L&T, and Accenture. 60% of people got internships in many companies.
Infrastructure: Facilities in the department and library include Wi-Fi. Everything is good and well. The hostel is maintained well and nicely, with a mess, food, good infrastructure, AC classrooms, and facilitated labs. Medical facilities and sports facilities are also good.
Faculty: Best faculty well connected to the students. Everyone is well qualified and good in some semesters. Due to the workload, we get less time to prepare for this semester. Basically, a student is a mistake, remaining all good. All teachers have a Foreign degree.
Other: Excellent events.

M.A. in Economics - Batch of 2025

5Placements5Infrastructure5Faculty5Crowd & Campus Life5Value for Money
Overall best college for M.A. In Economics Course.
Placements: Placements are excellent for our department. Students of finance are assigned to companies related to finance. The typical salary varies between approximately 15-25 LPA. PSUs visit our college for hiring purposes as well. The top packages reach as much as 3 LPA. Approximately 71-76% of students secure placements annually. 59% of learners obtained internships.
Infrastructure: The college is located in the northeast, and connectivity to the rest of India is limited. Thus, there were few female students on campus. Hotels were good. Each student is given an individual furnished room. Each hotel has a mess area, restaurant, and TV room. The food is awesome. It will take some time to adjust the menu for other public school students.
Faculty: Teachers in my department are good. They help others. Most of them give good grades compared to teachers in other departments. Many of us from our branch pursue activities such as software or non-teaching activities. Having this branch gives them enough time to prepare, as the classes are not so busy. Semester exams are easy. Almost everyone passes, but there are exceptions everywhere.

Great campus life with good placements and strong academic support.
Placements: Around 70% of students got placed. The highest package was 18 LPA, the lowest 5 LPA, average salary was 9 LPA. Top companies like L&T, ISRO, and DRDO. 60% of students got internships in same companies. Roles offered were design engineer, research associate, and tech consultant. It's quite good here.
Infrastructure: Department had good labs, classrooms with AC and projector, and Wi-Fi all around. Library was big with many books. Hostel rooms were fine, and shared type. Mess food was okay, sometimes good, sometimes not. Medical help was available 24X7. Many sports ground and gym were also there. It's quite good.
Faculty: Teachers were helpful and well-qualified. Most of them were Ph.D. holders. Teaching quality was good. Course was updated and useful for the industry. Exams were tough, and need to study well. Around 85-90% of students pass. Some subjects were really challenging. It's nice here.
Other: It offered applied mechanics course at IIT Madras. I chose this course because I liked mechanics and research. Best thing was the exposure and advanced labs. Course should include more industry projects. Campus life was great. Crowd was smart. Fests like Saarang and Shaastra were awesome. It had good Wi-Fi and greenery all around. Buses and auto facilities were available outside. Scholarships were also provided. Lots of clubs and activities were there for all interests.

Life at IITM is like your dream college life.
Placements: Total 92% of the students in our department got placed in the last year. Top recruiting companies for our department are ITC, RIL, HUL, Nestle, and P&G. Top roles offered in this course are FMCG, energy and fuels, pharmaceuticals, and chemicals. The highest package offered is 36 LPA, and the lowest package offered is 11.5 LPA. The average package offered is 18 LPA. 55% of the students got placed in internships last year.
Infrastructure: Institute Wi-Fi is present in all public places. Labs and classrooms are very well maintained and mostly air-conditioned. Library is open from 8:00 AM to 11:30 PM, and it is air-conditioned too. Hostel facilities are moderate, and we come to the hostel mostly for sleeping. We stay in the library most of the time. The quality of food available is also moderate. The institute hospital is very good, like a multi-specialty hospital. All types of sports are played here like cricket, football, badminton, chess, etc.
Faculty: All teachers are very helpful and friendly. All teachers are qualified and knowledgeable too but everyone has a different teaching style. The course curriculum is mostly relevant. Some topics are not that much relevant but they may be relevant in the future according to the interests of each student. The students become industry-ready. Semester exams are moderately difficult. Pass percentage is above 95%.
Other: Chemical Engineering is an interdisciplinary subject with its application in every other field. The best things about this course are that you can apply for both core profile and non-core profile simultaneously with the same efficiency. Technical fest Shaastra and cultural fest Saarang are held in January, when the institute is filled with joy and happiness.

A must experience campus life.
Placements: Firstly, the department of medical sciences and technology was launched in the year 2023, which means the 1st batch of students is currently in their third year, so as of now, none of the students have received placements from our department. But the department does organize internships in various hospitals partnered with our department. Some of which are SRM Institute of Medical Sciences, AIIMS Delhi, VHS hospital, etc.
Infrastructure: All the infrastructure in our department is top-notch, with table Wi-Fi connections, AC classrooms, and lab facilities for various subjects. All the students will be provided with hostels at the time of admission. There are single, double, triple, and quadruple sharing rooms. In each room, a cot, a cupboard, a study table with a chair, a socket, and LAN facilities will be provided. Hostels also have a basketball court, lawns, and various games, including board games. Mess can be selected by the students during each month according to their preference. The institute also has a hospital, which is open 24X7.
Faculty: All faculty members are highly qualified, and as our department is interdisciplinary, both doctors and engineering domain professors give lectures to us. Course curriculum includes subjects of both engineering and medicine, and the curriculum is specially designed by the professors of AIIMS Delhi, along with the founder of the department, so that it aligns with the vision of our department. Semester exams are not that difficult. Exams will either be multiple choice or subjective, depending upon the professor and the subject. The rule of relative grading is being followed for evaluation.
Other: I chose this course as it was a new as well as an interdisciplinary field. The best thing about the course is that we gain hands-on lab experiences as well as in-depth knowledge about various fields of engineering and medicine. I believe this makes our opportunities vast and not limited. Campus is famous for its technical fest Shaastra, and the cultural fest Saarang. Campus has a lot of facilities, including a gymkhana, stadium, sports complex, volleyball and basketball courts, and a central library. There are various clubs also including coding, music, dance, fine arts, and many more.

Absolutely beautiful campus with wildlife.
Placements: Internship is mostly based on software companies; not many core companies come even for core courses. Applying for out-of-campus placements is recommended. Better to have other options in hand. Roles in software companies would generally be developers. And engineering roles are fewer.
Infrastructure: Courses in my branch are difficult; others are pretty okay. Infrastructure depends on the branch you are in. Aerospace has a very mediocre infrastructure. Coming to the hostel, it is okay. I can't describe it as good exactly. Food is edible, extra in the mess would be good, food courts have good food. Medical facilities are good, and they have good sports facilities.
Faculty: Teachers mostly say you are independent; they don't force you to study, you have to study on your own; they will be there to explain the contents, that's all. Sometimes, the explanations aren't so well-structured either. Your grades are completely based on how you study and spend time on the subject (and also on the mood of the paper corrector). The courses are structured well; they give you good insights. The difficulty of the course is pretty high, as well as the exams. The pass percentage is pretty decent.
Other: I chose this course because I wanted to be an astronaut since my childhood, but coming here, I realized that what I want and what the course is about are completely different. I highly recommend people look deeply into what they're getting into so that they won't regret it later. But the coursework is pretty engaging; if you like Physics and Maths, you'd love the content.
